- My interview with Czech RUclipsr Michal Šopor about his life in my hometown of Los Angeles. USA vs. Czech Republic? His answer might not surprise you....
Here are his thoughts on:
0:00 Welcome
1:15 Why he lives in Los Angeles
1:32 Why he started a RUclips channel
4:47 How Los Angeles has changed since he moved there
7:08 What it's like coming back to Czechia
8:36 Who he's friends with in L.A.
9:50 What he thinks of #BlackLivesMatter
12:20 How year 2020 has changed him
12:44 Racism in the U.S.
14:15 Minority immigrant groups in CZ and US
18:30 Women in CZ vs. US
20:45 Will he return to CZ permanently?
21:57 How his opinion of Czechia changed
A based central European dude sharing his opinion honestly. Good stuff.
Did not expected you here, mister Bald.
Ayyy, it's my other favorite RUclipsr.
Love you wrote central european and not eastern 😄
There is nothing better than a guest that gives their honest opinion - no restraint, no censorship, 100% himself. Awesome guy. I'm a Canadian expat who chose to start a life in Ukraine (which is why your channel is interesting to me) but I can see the appeal of Czechia as well. These are both great countries, with great down-to-earth people.
Very down to earth,. I appreciated his candor, even though sometimes I didn't know how to reply!😂
@@DreamPrague too much honesty right? :D
@@rieneeh I don't know him at all. Although I appreciate honesty, his confidence and crudeness reminds me of many Czechs who knows everything an has polished opinion on anything.
@@2plus3is4 Exactly, false confidence and opinion on everything is really our problem and we should learn some lessons...
What exactly have the Czech Republic and Ukraine in common? Czechia is a stable and prosperous Central European state while Ukraine is one of the poorest Eastern European countries. Ukrainians are the most frequent labor workers in Czechia, working as bricklayers and cleaning ladies. It's like comparing the U. S. to Mexico, economically and socially speaking.
Jojo bylo to fajn :-)
Doporučuji sledovat i Tady Gavin :-)
Je tam take iné puto ...
The world is great when you are Russian and on RUclips you are watching the interview with Czech, who lives and LA and speaking with American who lives in Czech. I love it. Great time
:D
So you two have finally met, people! Good.
15:00 You know the difference between Ostrava native and a Vietnamese? The Vietnamese has a job and speaks Czech!
:D
Ostravans tell the same joke about Pragers btw :D.
@@Scum8ag yes, because they are not even able to come up with a new joke. :-D besides... it is true.
@@boredinczechia4382 While the two of you are quarreling, the Vietnamese will take over in no time :-)

Pokaždé, když Michal řekne "like" nebo "fucking", tak si dejte panáka. Nedostanete se přes první minutu střízlivý 🤣
Hey, I'm just glad you didn't have to listen to 20 minutes of me speaking in Czech! 😂😩

I also moved to the US eight years ago, but from Slovakia. All countries have their pros and cons, and I think that life is sometimes hard everywhere. When I’m homesick, I say negative things about America. But the truth is that I really like the American people, especially for their positivity and can do attitude. As I said, all countries have their pros and cons. Jen, I really like your videos, and I think you did a great job on this interview!👍
místo pohovoru bych řekl rozhovoru ;-)
J.S. Duše ??? This video is called Interview with Czech Expat..... Jen was interviewing him....
Super, super, super. I když Michal ukazuje L.A. i z té ošklivější strany, Ty jako rodačka jsi ukázala , že to umíš skousnout a jsi nad věcí. Díky . Moc pěkné a zajímavé. Těším se na další videa.
As an LA native (part Czech heritage) I agree with this. LA has gone down hill. It’s so sad to see if change. Everything said spot on. Thank you for this video.
It makes me sad too. I feel defensive of my hometown, but at the same time, I see it's decline as well.
Love this video, living in different country will always give your life different perspective and also interacting with other cultures and nationalities will definitely make you more open minded
JEN YOU ARE SUCH A NATURAL INTERVIEWER! Loving this!

Great video. I'm looking forward to the next one 👍👍
Jen and Michal are among my absolutely most favourite two people on RUclips. It's so refreshing to listen to these two young personalities - intelligent, eloquent, open-minded... who has something valuable to say... Michal's last "patriotic" sentences remind me my own experience after all my travellings and work in Japan, EU, US... my much deeper appreciation how good life in a good country we are actually living in... (BTW, Michal's comments in Czech language sound more polite than in English...) And concerning US vs EU/CR comparisons - I've learned one fundamental thing: there is not just one US - but so many of them: US of big cities, US of countryside , US of Universities, US of labours, US of poor and rich, etc etc. So I fully understand Jen's gentle comments in this respect, not only in this video and not only about LA... Best Wishes!
Tradičně velmi decentní a milá Jen by si jistě zasloužila odpovědi spíše v Michalově "českém modu" - ale snad budeme všichni trochu nad věcí...
That is a great point about “There is not one US” My first and long experience is from Silicon Valley. That was were I made my picture about the USA and US people. The experience was just positive in many (all) aspects. I thought that this is the US standard and when I started traveling more around the USA, lived different places, I expected nothing but similar or better experience. Boy I was wrong and shocked😮 😳 I forgot one thing that I never got and liked in Silicon Valley - the homelessness and dirt in San Jose and San Francisco.
Zadne R&R pred domy a ani zadne rozstrilene auta.
A lidi...vsude na svete, nejenom v Cesku...leti na extremy.
Chcou podle vzoru vychčijou? Pěkné.
Naprostý souhlas
MIchal on fire! :D Thank you for this interview. Have a nice day. :)
Welcome to America, Michal! It's wonderful to hear that you've worked to learn about the US and participate. Really well done. Enjoy!
Interesting exchange. Thanks guys! Michael, clean your language! My experience is so much different! I find Americans friendly, caring, kind, compare to Czechs.
Yeah, cuz Americans aren't real.
Big thumbs up, great video, great content. It could have been longer, it occurred to me that you were in a hurry, as if you didn't have enough time. Michal has changed a lot, probably for the better. Great concept for a video!
No me to osobne teda tak přišlo.
V Praze najdes strikacku i pred budovou ministerstva.

Absolutely agree. I'm not even sure if he realizes that he is presenting himself as a very uneducated person. That is unfortunately the way that younger generation in the CR talks. I also don't like his contact criticism of the USA and great Americans.
@@f.g.7091 Není to Jane, je to Jennifer. Aloha
@@annaparezova8889 jak říkal on. Média poskytují pozitivní obrázek o USA a on dodává ten zbytek na dotvoření kompletního obrazu..... Kdyby média dělala svou práci pořádně, nebylo by snad jeho negativních videí zapotřebí.
@@f.g.7091 It's a common mistake. She's kinda touchy about it ;-) Have a nice day. Alóha
I kind of admire you Jen for being able to stay so calm during this interview. I mean, Michal seemed so close-minded to me only saying the bad things about California. Like yeah, there are many things that even you agree with and that's fine but if he really hates living there as much as it seems then why is he living there? I mean you were intellectualy much higher in this interview in comparison to his conservative, close-minded views.
Otherwise I would like to thank you for what you are doing, your videos are really a lit! 🙏🏽❣ greetings from Ostrava
Dominik! You are great, thanks for your comment! Michal is entitled to his opinion and I have no problem with people who disagree with me. I’m glad you like the channel so thanks!
Dominik, I agree!!!! Jen! You are amazing. I am a Czech and have lived in the USA for 20 years. I am a psychotherapist - one bachelor and two master’s degrees later. Of course people are racist. We are racist. I am not looking to start any fights and arguments here and I have only watched a half of this video. However, with all my university education from USA, I still recall watching Last Chance for Eden documentary in 2012 and also learning about Jane Elliot’s Blue Eyes/ Brown Eyes experiment in undergrad. I was blown, absolutely wide eyed! No doubt the American culture is racist and so is Czech. People don’t have to like this but I would not trade my education for anything. I am grateful to my professors for having the wisdom to teach us the way they did even though I live in the South. My professor told me she was not allowed to do a public viewing of Last Chance for Eden at our university as the administration was worried about having to debrief the white folks from the shock. Wow! She did a good job debriefing our class. Life changing.
@@cooljannie1 I love Jane Elliot! She's a true 20th/21th century hero.

😂
jo a zní to hrozně
To mne dostalo! :-)

Good to see you the two of you in a single video. Glad to hear his thoughts about current matters in the US, especially the point about the "protests" being mostly political at this point and hinting at the absurdity of modern so called progressivism regressing to the most primitive forms of tribalism and race-baiting. Those things need to be said and heard.
Jen, I appreciate how well you handle things that are definitely not pleasant for you as an American woman. I know that it is not easy for you to hear negative words about your country. Really great respect.
I agree, I do specially admire, how you handle opinions from a guy who was raced in a patriarchal society (because Czech Republic is very very much patriarchal society ). Unfortunately they know shit about feminism and equality. And all of them still have this classic wiew on live (like you have to work, cook, clean and take care of kids and look like supermodel ) while he is drinking beer in a local pub with friends and occasionally ,, change a tire,, on your car. He knows very much why he wants to mary only a Chzech or Slavic girl. Because any other intelligent and educated woman would not slave for him. And thats tho bold truth. How sad.....
@@Alex-vh5ok Strongly disagree. It´s just Michal´s point of view... OR... way how he´s saying so, but it´s not actually full picture and it´s not really valid in general. Actually, I don´t even trust him in way he´s telling stuff like that, just because he´s naturally overacting guy (reason why I stopped watching his videos time ago). I mean, if you would really speak with him these points deeply, he wouldn´t be probably THAT, he just made himself shorthanded in such an answers and statements. For sure, this is not valid for Czech environment nowadays, but for some reason, people (mostly czech people) tend to point this out just to make sure they are "better" than that.
@@Juklitz282In your first sentence you are saying yourself it's his point of view. Well, I am saying his point of view on women is strongly sexist ( but what is more sad is that czech men don't know what it means. They think if woman works and can vote ,that is a maximum expression of feminism in a country and their own families) . And the word feminism is almost a swear word for czech society. I was born in Czech Republic and lived there for the first 20 years of my life and I do live now 19 years in another europian country . So I do know what I'm talking about. And yes, Michael's point of view on women is sadly point of view of most of the czech men I have met in my life.
@@Alex-vh5okSo you do live abroad for 20 years, but you still somehow managed to learn opinions from population majority. That's pretty amazing tbh.
@@Alex-vh5ok To be exact - there´s no evidence of causality between form and content. Even form may be harsh or disturbing, real content may differ and I do insist that "They think if woman works and can vote (...)" is actually pretty rare for czech men, when really considering their true real social and family life. As we are at the same age, during these 39 yrs of my life, there´s something I´ve learned - don´t trust what people are saying, whether it´s positive or not and don´t make strong conclusions from what they are saying, bcs maybe.. just maybe.. you may be wrong and/or unfair.
I didn't expect Michael there but great interview. I didn't know he's back from USA.
Yeeeez my two best youtubers together :D

A kdyz prijedu domu, rozumim VSECHNO. Najednou jsou kolem me misto zvuku slova, ktera davaji smysl.
Priste az pojedu domu, budu davat vetsi pozor.
Přesně jste to vystihla.
Btw.
Amazing interview 🌺🌺
A lot of men spice the talk with curse words. WHEN THEY ARE IN GUY'S COMPANY!
Talking the same in front of a woman, who is not your close friends, automatically assumes that she is OK with it, that she is on the same level as you are and that makes it insulting. And believe me, the woman already formed an opinion about you!
@@f.g.7091 I wouldn't read too much into it. I mean, his body language is the same whether he speaks to Jen or to an 70 y/o man. Watch some of his late videos. You're right though (as anyone else is in comments above) that there was no need for using so many f-words in a communicatin with someone who you don't know very well, especially if it's a woman you've just met for the first time. On the other hand, I think he used those words just to emphasize the meaning of his statements and he probably couldn't find better equivalents. And maybe he likes the sound of it... Well, no one sounds as cool as Sleaford Mods. Watch this and tell me you don't like it .-) ruclips.net/video/8wqvqIMdJNA/видео.html
@@elevendarter112
Sleaford Mods...kinda like it, thanks. ;)
@@f.g.7091 I am sure you meant "intimidated", I don't think that Michal and Jen are "intimate" :-)
I myself, as not being a native English speaker, kind of agree with what somebody here already said, that Michal does not have a complete feeling for how terrible these word are. On the other hand, when speaking Czech with a Czech woman I would not use the Czech equivalent (ty vole, do prdele) language.
Michal, you appreciate how your parents raised you, but I an sure that they would not be happy hearing you now :-)))
The USA is different everywhere. Texas, California, New England ... It is more like different planets in the universe ! And simultaneously, every town or city have their own "different planets" called neighborhoods ... Some of them are like a dream and some of them are vice versa. L.A. is also "a universe" with a lot of different "planets..."
Well, it's USA ...
Skvělej rozhovor, díky.
Thanks for honest interview Michal.
F word at each sentence did not show very good picture about your guest. Not sure if he was trying to be more interesting but that's terrible.
Agree, definately a bit exaggerated and surprising as I'm Michal's follower and he normally doesn't use harsh language in his own videos....
He's a good person and f-bombs might not be for polite company, but they matter less than good intentions.
It's probablly more caused by the types of ppl he talks to in LA, he's not speaking this way in cz. But still, If the f word is fitting, why not use it?
I do the same thing. In czech I dont curse at all but in English its all s* and f*. Trying to unlearn it but its going to be a long process.
My theory is that czech curse words have more emotional meaning to me since its my native language and in English I am more emotinally detached so its easier to use them.
Je to moravak, tady se mluví spisovně a sprostě zároveň :D
I admire, how you handle opinion from a guy who was raced in a patriarchal society (because Czech Republic is very very much patriarchal society ). Unfortunately they know nothing about feminism and equality. And mayority of czech men still have this classic wiew on live (like you have to work, cook, clean and take care of kids and look like supermodel ) while he is drinking beer in a local pub with friends and occasionally ,, change a tire,, on your car.He thinks you doing all the house work, taking care of the family and having a full time job is your way of emancipation and equality . He knows very much why he wants to mary only a Chzech or Slavic girl. Because any other intelligent educated and independent woman would not slave for him. And that's the bold truth. As the man said himself, he always wants to give a whole picture. Well that's the whole picture.
I can give a faithful testimony of that, since I was born Czech, lived there for 21 years of my life and now another 18 years in another European country. I would never marry a Czech man. How sad to say that... isn't it?
Skvělé video. Díky!
I felt you had a different opinion here and there (I did too) and given that I liked how you handled the interview :)
Jj. Michal udelal za posledni rok-dva velky posun. 4M k lepsimu. Dekuji za rozhovor a at se vam obema dari.
My girlfriend wanted to visit US soooo much, so when I visited San Francisco (business trip), I took couple of picture and present them to my GF and now she doesn't want to visit it anymore :D
It's a shame. It used to be one of the prettiest cities in the US, in my opinion.
Well, the city itself is beautiful, but in some streets I felt like in war zone :D. People completely ruined by drugs and 2 homelesses/square meter. I was there with one of my friend and we were scared to walking there after 6PM even together :D.
Dream Prague Now it’s San Diego )
You two? Interesting. Looking forward to see it 🦉🦉🦉
Je hrozně příjemny vidět vás dva spolu... :).
Thanks for the video! My oppinion about the BLM riots - I don´t get how they can say that destroying of shops can someone call a "way of sadness and you can´t tell anyone how to act when he is sad". For me it is just pure hypocrisy. I don´t say that the idea of BLM is bad, but this looks taking another extreme - oposite extreme. And it´s hard to understand that. Sometimes I can here or see on internet some sentences from black people (or they marked themself as black) - if the same is used by "white" or "not black" person, the same people are the first yelling that the white is rasist. I don´t get that - why from one person it is ok and from another bad, when it should be bad from both of them? And the answer to one of Michael´s question - why are they destroying the shops was - "they will get it back from the insurance" - WTF?! Such carelessnes! Compare it with our Letná or now with protests in Belarus - people know that when they start to destroy anything, the goverment will mark them as loosers and nobody takes them seriously.
I hear you and thanks for your comment! I would only say that it's important to separate looters from protestors. It's hard to get a realistic picture of who is protesting and who is stealing...but they aren't the same. Looters are thieves, opportunists and selfish, period.
@@DreamPrague Yes. And it's in the best interest of protesting people to separate them a get them arrest.

I would argue the person who was saying, "you can't tell anyone how to act when he is sad", really is saying, try to understand where that person is coming from even if you disagree. I don't condone the violence and destruction the American colonists engaged in leading up the American Revolution, but if I were advising the British government, I'd say you'd have to expect civil unrest if you are going to tax them for prior wars without their input, figure out an alternative. I don't condone that criminal activity rises in cities in economic decline. But if I were advising a mayor, I'd say you have to expect it and find solutions to the underlying problem of economic decline. I mean in a general sense, if someone said that to you while you were watching a friend loot, I'd tell you to stop your friend because there are all kinds of consequences he'll have to and should pay for if he engages in criminal activity.
In terms of someone black saying something racist against a white person, I'd say you'd need to understand American culture. Whoever's saying that is definitely racist, and you definitely shouldn't be friends with them based on some white guilt or something. If someone's racist against you, you have a right to challenge them. But there's no power structure to support that person's racism. I'd put it like this. First I'll say, the Czech Republic is a great country. That being said, if Czech people were xenophobic to Americans, it really wouldn't matter. It wouldn't get your people very far, it would actually be a disadvantage to you. But if we Americans were xenophobic toward Czech people, we could do a lot of damage to your people and elect leaders that would make life very hard for your country and it wouldn't be affect us Americans much. Black people are 13 percent of Americans, we can't get very far with racism against Whites. We can't inact laws to oppress them, or anything of that nature (Not that I would want to.)
And in terms of violence in looting in Belarus, whether or not there is some protests engage in it, that does not delegitimize the peaceful protestors' legitimate demands. Violence should be discouraged because it's harmful to the people, not because the government will use it to mark you as losers. Of course they will, and they are acting in bad faith. Otherwise it's unlikely it wouldn't be in the situation with protests, it would have engaged with its people in other much safer democratic tools to have a dialogue with its people. The government isn't some separate entity where the people have to act 100 percent one way to challenge it. The government is the people. They are supposed to represent our interests and if they don't in some area, we have the right to challenge them, regardless of what other Americans are doing.
Yeeeees .. Konečně Michal Šopor a Dream Prague jako sem žadal už předtím :-) :-)
Perfektní rozhovor! Michale bomba! To s těmi holkami z Čech jsi zabil, v dobrém .)
Nice one. I am polish guy making YT channel about life in Czech since July, so i hope I can do interview with You in the future
OMG LOL WENT FOR A GIRL HE WAS TEXTING WITH CLASSIC!
Michalova videa mám rád a tenhle rozhovor mi přiblížil život v US, který nám přes ně ukazuje, ještě o něco více.
About that negative information. I feel that we have a lot worse situation, given that a lot of sensations will do if you just call the Czech Republic Eastern Europe .... years ago I saw the video Paternoster: Eastern Europe's 'Elevator of Death' it had a lot of views just because of the name. In the long run, we are world-famous almost only when our president gets drunk or when something scandalous happens. Janek has the most views when he is chasing cheaters somewhere in Prague. So its normal I think. :-D
Lidi zajímají hovadiny. To je blbý, to se bude líbit, říkal už Werich.
This interview quickly "went to the shit" as he would say.
Pecka rozhovor - díky!
I love his attitude and perspective.
Right at the beginning of this video, there is a question that hits a typical weak point of Dream Prague channel (at least to me), omnipresent fear to express any kind of open criticism to Czech Republic or the Czechs in general (probably a concern of critical reactions that could follow 🤔)
Such a shame 😔 for otherwise very interesting channel 👌the whole thing would seem to me less hypocritical and encouraging but more credibly balanced 😇
Great comment! Thanks for the feedback! 😱 I can’t help my positivity 😆😫
@@DreamPrague I know, that was I was afraid to hear 😄 well there is nothing negativ on fair criticism 🤔😎
@@DreamPrague Hi Jen, no need to give up your positivity. Just suggest a different brewski again and the Czechs will send you to hell in a handbasket!
@@DreamPrague I feel like you're too positive :-D I mean.. it's nice to heart that stuff about your own country, but we tend to get it over our heads. Little criticism never hurts, we need to be objective in our lives.
I know, right? They forget how they lit me on fire when I made a joke about Czechia being in "Eastern Europe"!
Jen, I absolutely fucking LOVE Michael!! I'm subscribing to his channel!! I was just laughing my ass off!! Great interview Jen!!
Oba Vás mám ráda. Bomba. Super, díky. Bylo to poučný.
I watch Michals videos and I realy like his channel too but when I have both of you next to each other it's so visible you Jen are so much better person than him and that's really something because he is freaking fucking cool too. Jsi náš poklad Jen a jsme moc rádi, že tu jsi a děláš pro nás skvělé a zábavné videa. 👍👍👍👍👍
Super rozhovor.
Oba mají zajímavé příspěvky a baví mě.👍😊🍀❤️
