    They needed a Romulan regular in the show so we could see how they live and culture. During the Dominion war would have been perfect.

    One of the best lines of the episode was cut here. The Romulan Praetor(?) interjects during Bashir's story about not being able to trust anyone around him and asks;
    " *But you felt you could trust a Romulan senator?* "
    .... in a story as crazy as what was just told, the part that was most incredible to him was that a Federation officer could trust a Romulan senator. I love that little detail.

      @@redomer91 That's kind of the point though, isn't it? he's super smart, super fast & super durable but he's so naive that he actually falls behind the rest of the cast in a bunch of ways. I think it's meant to show that genetics aren't everything.....

    Plot Twist
    It was revealed that Koval was the Starfleet -Section 31 mole all along as they have successfully swept Sen. Creetak aside.
    Koval didn't kill Sloan with a phaser,. he just beam him away to a seclude location.
    This is why Section 31 is the most efficient black ops intelligence agency of the entire Alpha Quadrant .
    More efficient than the Obsidian Order and Tal Shiar
    and the only one which is not infiltrated and known by the Founders

    The funny part is, in the end, Starfleet got what it wanted via Section 31 - Creetak was swept aside, and Koval - the real Starfleet mole - was put on the Senate Continuing Committee. One of my favorite DS9 episodes.

    Here is interesting idea. We know that vulcans and romulans are stronger than humans. But Bashir was genetically altered, Can that assumption be correct for him as well. He said he physical attributes were enhanced. So the question is? Could Bashir have overpowered the Romulans if he chose too?

    • @hiuto2

      Romulans are the same species as Vulcans. Vulcans went down the path of logic and Romulans did not. When they splintered is unknown, but as we can see, Romulans did not embrace logic.

      Section 31 are ghouls, they make the tal'shiar and the obsidian order look like choir boys. Do the klingons have a shadow war? They're an embarrassment to humanity. Sloan died to quickly, he deserved to suffer, without principles, life becomes hell. Even the alien secret police force has limits, secton 31 does not. Really they're a parody for the C.I.A.

    The actor who plays Koval is excellent in making me hate him. Unfortunately (and I know what I say next will be construed as being r*cist), his posh English mannerisms only make his character that much worthy of dislike: they way he inflected his sentences. The condescending tone with which he speaks-full of holier than thou. Maybe that was purposeful, I don’t know.
    Romulans are written to be treacherous, confrontational hypocritical tropes, I get it. But the Romulan senator that was assassinated by Gara at least had some charisma about him. This guy seems to drop a faux charisma that is barely there.
