This is one of the best scenes in trek. Really well done. No other trek series has achieved this level of quality that the episodes hit in the later series.

If Sloan fabricated the existence of Section 31 why did the Admiral mention Section 31 at all in a conversation with Bashir. That is why Bashir figured it out.

Yeah Ross or Sloan would have had him murdered here had they felt he would tell on them but Sloans profile of him made him assume Julian wouldnt go to the Romulans after and he didnt.
Senator Vreenak and senator Cretak both got completely screwed over and didnt do anything wrong at all. If there was some way I could see all the things the US government has done like this I wouldnt want to see it. It would depress me too much.

@@stevenclark5173 inevitably morality comes down to what is the fairest. Aka, what puts the highest regard to the lowest thing. Which means 1 should be more significant than 1 billion, the opposite of vulcan philosophy in that regard. You should not want a society that is willing to throw you away to survive, ideally you'd throw yourself away, but sacrifices are not something you do TO someone, but FOR someone, only you should be sacrificed by yourself.

There is no morality, just a familiar idea we recognize, yet is not what it seems, how we define and think of it is absurd.

There's always been this underlying current of dissatisfaction between the fleet commanders and the brass in Trek, and then when the Dominion War began a new layer of mistrust was added, seeing the federation militarise so heavily, engaging in espionage so readily, I think we will see in Star Trek Picard a continuation of this trend and, hopefully, a resolution to it.

Star Trek Picard can be explained by section 31 getting their hands on a time machine.

Not possible for Picard to do that because it is not Star Trek. It is JJ bad interpretation of Trek with bad writing.

Bashir could be rather annoying & self-rightous sometimes, which is a deliberate part of his character arc, but here he just shows a lack of grasp for politiking.
Admiral Ross in the full clip makes a sound counter-argument, which Bashir just rubbishes superficially.
Like Sisko, Ross chose the options that're in the interest of the many over the few or of the one, sacrificing his self-respect so as to do a larger good.
