2002 Twin Turbo Dodge Viper: The Most Dangerous Tuner Car Ever Sold?

- The Dodge Viper has one reputation - the sketchy insane American supercar that isn't easy to handle. So what do people do with this gnarly vehicle? They make it even faster. With the reputation of Twin Turbo Vipers being unbelievable fast street rockets by the likes of Calvo and Nthmoto - when you think of a twin turbo viper it's usually 1000HP plus. But what if you just did a minor turbo setup with around 600WHP? Well...it actually checks all the boxes. So let's talk about it.

These things never get old…
Because sometimes they don’t let you grow old.
**that fox body mustang sounded soooo good-- makes me miss the couple of 5.0 capri's I had back in the day... Though they were nothing compared to that bad boy you were driving!!
Awesome car, very much a collectible one too, enthusiasts get over the fact the car has idiosyncrasies that some may find off putting because for them, that’s what makes them special. On another note I will say dodge really just went balls to the wall on a muscle car renaissance because they knew these cars would be a thing of the past. The fact one can simply order an 800hp charger or challenger is still completely insane to me.
Donut media just did a fantastic viper generation review
It's my favorite supercar
Well thanks a lot my D is gonna be hard for hours now! lol
I’m glad to see someone still cares about the vipers
Antonio Calvo has a whole business building them
Has anyone ever not cared about them? I feel like I see them at every cars and coffee I go to. And then texas2k loves them
I think everybody cares about Vipers. If we could all afford them it'd be their best selling car!
There alot of people still are saddened by it's unexpected demise
@@mareo187 fr i miss the viper best car ever made by dodge
Vipers are such underrated drivers cars they really don't get enough recognition
best car ever made from dodge
Should be a car in everyone’s collection.
Agreed 👍
Everybody loves them, though. The only ones who don't are the ones who couldn't find the limit and crashed them.
That's an L take, Vipers are anything but underrated, i haven't know anyone who doesn't respect Vipers.
As a viper owner of 3 years (2001 rt/10) I've found that the reputation that it "isn't easy to handle" to be completely untrue. As long as you have fresh rubber and arent an idiot with it, it handles amazingly well. The trouble only comes when people think they're Mario Andretti. Remember, the car will only do exactly what you ask it to do, nothing more and nothing less.
Also 3 years in a 2001 Viper GTS and agree. Though I will say I let a family member drive my car and immediately felt the danger. We didn’t even leave the neighborhood either. He didn’t even punch it. I think it was his gear choice, throttle and steering control. He was right there with the torque where it felt like we could easily go sideways across a lawn. It was bizarre but I could tell anyone like him would total the car.
If think what you guys are trying to say, that these are unforgiving cara, no room for errors.
so no car for RUclipsr GenZ Kids who think life is a Videogame
I agree.
The car communicates very well with the you as the driver.
My theory is that today's drivers don't know that feel anymore because it's all electronically controlled.
@@BlackMetalWorld I'd say less room for errors, avg driver isn't going to realise a lot of the errors they're making until suddenly shtf.
This car takes me back to the old Drake & Josh movie where they steal Tony Hawk's Viper. Ever since that movie oddly-enough, I've wanted one so bad.
I can't remember if I watched Drake and Josh because of the Viper, or I loved the Viper because of Drake and Josh.
I do know that's how I learned who Tony Hawk is.
@@JRC99 being a skater kid growing up in the early 2000s, Tony Hawk was my idol so it was just that much better haha
I remember in that movie they tried making it look like the car was going fast with camera tricks but it was just a bunch or right turns at like 20 mph. Made me laugh 😂
Thanks for taking the time to come and check out the car! Great time as always! Look forward to hopefully having you drive a much more rowdy foxbody in the future!
super clean viper, love the black SSR's on it, perfect wheel choice imho
@peterdelaat273 thank you! The wheels are great. Its a shame they discontinued them. These are forged and are extremely light.
The Gen2's and Gen5's are the best years of the viper For sure. The 3rd and 4th Gens should have never been made in my opinion, as nobody cared about the viper it seemed around those eras. I worked at discount tire in 2008 and we had a viper that we put 2 new tires on the rear. For whatever reason the car stayed with us for almost a month and i was the one who pulled it in and out daily. It was a 2006 with 7k miles on it and it felt like shit, the interior buttons and overall feel of it felt like a 2004 neon base model. All plastic with the same radio and buttons and switches as a dodge caravan. It really let me down coming from a kid who loved seeing the 1st and 2nd gens driving around and being awe struck. Gen2's where raw and the classic timeless viper body that ill always remember.
Which suspension does the car have? Seems to ride a little better and handle the pulls better than my MCS coilovers.
I saw his thumbnail and said oh hey it looks just like Jonathans viper! 😂 always love seeing familiar rides explored more in depth.
Still remember the first VIPER I saw on the street.
It was a Gen 3 GTS in Blue and White. It came down the highway and swung into the gas station where I was. The driver stopped at the pump, spoke briefly to his female passenger, and got out. I stood there in awe. I noticed the other 20-30 people at the gas station were in awe as well. After the driver setup the gas pump, he went inside the gas station. We all began slowly walking toward the gorgeous GTS. The female passenger inside began to look anxious - as if she was in the video for thriller. People kept walking toward the car.
The driver returned, looked curiously at the throng that had developed, buttoned up the car and roared back out onto the highway.
We all cheered and gave each other high fives.
All you missed was the American flag waving in the backround and a bald eagle letting out a loud caw.
Even though I’m not a dodge person, I always loved the Viper. It was one of the coolest cars around and it’s sound was hard to beat. The Gen 2 was a great example of a raw car that deserved respect. Because if you didn’t give it, it could kill you
I do love the Viper! I do think if you aren’t careful with the exhaust you pick…. It can end up sounding like a lawn mower. Still an awesome car regardless.
I'm Ford Blue . However I like ALL muscle cars. If I had a chance to buy a 2nd gen or newer Viper, I would not hesitate .
This is awesome. Not every modified car needs to be turned up to 11 while also being a blast to drive.
That v10 rumble and turbo whistle on those short shifts 🤤🤤🤤
Beautiful car, the viper is timeless. Love this build, nothing crazy but enough to have a good time
I would still get an old viper if I could. I saw a black one at a car show and admired how the design was ahead of it's time. It still looks great sitting next to next to new exotics
Imo best silhouette that exist.
812 super fast close second.
Get one homie. I have two. You can still get one.
YO!! That story about the Grand Cherokee kinda hit home for me!
I daily a 1995 Dodge Neon and just the other day 2 Hellcats pulled up next to me at a light and yelled ''MOPAR!" at me
Love vipers, They are consistently overlooked as great alternative performance cars. Hopefully that stays that way so market pumpers dont ruin yet another car that someone who makes decent money can save up for.
If I have the opportunity own a Viper, I really want a Gen 3 or 4. Those are the perfect iteration in my opinion.
I don't think I've ever heard of the Viper being 'overlooked'. If anything, it's been one of the most sought after USDM cars ever produced. That's like saying the Shelby Cobra was 'just a kit car'. It's mainly because just like Cobras and old school Porsches, the first two gens were considered Widowmakers.
My advice, grab you a 3rd or 4th gen this decade. The values won't be this low for very long.
Overlooked? They're expensive as all hell, that's kind of the bane for anyone looking to buy one lol.
@@Hype679 I don't recall a lot of people in the mainstream pining to own one. I'd say they're pretty overlooked. However in the last 7 years that's seemed to have changed.
Being a Viper enthusiast I’m glad to see people like you talking highly about vipers, but I have to disagree with your second comment.
Idk when the last time you checked viper prices but these cars have shot up in value. Personally I’d say rightly so seeing as there’s no other comparison in todays market. I’ve been looking at Gen 4s and they’re fetching 80-120k depending on the trim.
I’m not sure if they’re really overlooked. How many in your city are available that meet your price and are the right color/year/model? They’re rare. Only 30k produced for 5 generations. That’s the number of corvettes sold per year. I think people don’t really overlook them as much as buy something else that’s actually available (vette,911). People will talk themselves out of anything to get something they want NOW and It’s really easy to list negatives of a Viper versus positives of a corvette, 911, etc. Parts availablity, repair costs, ride handling, electronics, interior, and the car you want actually being available in front of your face. Viper guys don’t justify the purchase. They don’t discuss the ride quality, comfort or interior. They talk about engine temps, fixing things, or just generally how badass the car is. They buy the car they want being sold in a different state. To buy a Viper you have to want a Viper inspite of its flaws. It makes for one hell of a community. The people who buy these cars are the type that will go out of their way to get it. They don’t fuss with BS and are generally no BS kinda people.
2nd gen was always my favorite 😊
Viper vlogs much appreciated! Underrated, undervalued and irreplaceable. Make Vipers Great Again
Sounds great and looks great!
Even though I love imports, I've always had a special place in my heart for the viper. Such a great and unique car, it's a weapon.
Really clean setup - I like it a lot - power level is perfect
650 wheel for a tt viper is extremely tame... that thing should run for a long time
These things just had 400 rwhp from the factory that is 250 rwhp above stock. Yea alot of twin turbo vipers are much higher I wouldn't exactly call well over a 50% gain from stock "extremely tame".
@@midnight347 its only running 6 psi, for almost all turbo set ups thats very low
@@jeffreyrose4240yeah it is less what most stock cars run but it’s crazy how that adds another 250hp it just goes to show how much boost can help an engine
Amen I love vipers you do a sick vid. And anything over 500hp is crazy so jealous
great to see such a review, Love these classic an the viper is on top of my list will love to own one with a VictorRacing active wing
The perfect mesh between Boost, and that beautiful viper natural v10 sound. 🙏🏽🔥❤️
Thanks for another great Viper video 🇺🇸👌🏻
I love the sound of the vipers. People just love to hate on it because it doesnt rev to the moon
i'm just going to say it... i think this is one of the best looking cars ever
God that would be amazing! 1st and 2nd gen vipers are my favorite by far.
What an awesome period correct wheel!! Well done.
He's had some really awesome cars and to have two of them on TDIB....Very cool
Love these early Vipers. A 97 GTS coupe is on my bucket list...
Yessss the classic blue with white stripes... .just beautiful
@@thedaredevil1907 96 (the first year of the G2 GTS) also has the B&W stripes. The way to tell the 96 and 97 apart is the stripes go all the way through the license plate area on the 96.
I will never forget back in 1992 when the Viper RT-10 first came out and I saw the first one at Rothrock Dodge in Allentown, Pennsylvania. I was in absolute AWE.
Lehigh valley \\\ 🫡
10:50 Those air quotes deserve a raise and paid vacation for all the work they're putting in.
There used to be a blue gts in my town growing up and loved seeing it. Beautiful cars
That thing is SICK
A viper is just a lamborghini that grew up in Houston Texas. That's how you describe the sound.
I'm using that line in the future lol
@@J-Whit 🤣🤣🤣🤣
No lol.
These will always be my favourite cars👌🏼
Dude that intro KILLED 🔥
I'm really excited about this.
I absolutely love my 2002 Final Edition. Prepping for TT myself soon
Art... just a work of art!
My 28 year old son has a gen 5 2013 Viper with traction control and it handles great! The engine IS very loud when revved! It doesn’t have a beautiful sound like a C5 LS6, but it is shocking! You can’t help but say whoa when you see or hear it!
One of the cars I want so bad. Twin Turbo or supercharged viper of this generation. Murdered out.
Keep up the great work brother. Is there such thing as a safe viper?
What an absolute dream of a car!
The red is beautiful, but I always loved the blue with white striped gts.
Brilliant video.
The Viper has always been my fave muscle car/supercar. Since like 1992 or 1993 when I first saw one. I started to look into them and found out it had a naturally-aspirated V10 I was hooked. Plus the styling of it.............OML! Cruisin in my Viper wit my fine ass wife! I'll have one in less than 5 years! I swear I've been saving money forever, old money from the 90s. Jordan shoe box money💰🏎
Hope you join the club dude
My tip to anyone driving these for the first time or looking to buy one. WEAR DRIVING SHOES. Pedals are super close and its very easy to hook the back of the brake pedal. This issue nearly ended mine.
Thing looks militant, love it 😎😎✌✌👌👌👍👍 frm the UK
This hits the sweet spot for Viper's for me.
The 2nd gen Vipers are burned into my memory through playing NFS: Hot Pursuit 2 on the PS2 as a kid. It was the first time seeing it, and I often chose it in blue with white stripes or black with white stripes until unlocking the Murcielago. Since then, I knew those two cars were on the bucket list of owning, or at least driving for a bit.
The viper Definitely was a childhood Dream Car thanks to those games granturismo on ps1 started it for me
I saw TT’s 🌀 and instantly thought, four figure HP and an uncontrollable machine. This setup (in turbo terms for a VIPER) is Al-Denté 👌🏼
Always preferred the less Rev-happy nature that Chryslers V10 had to offer. Produces a way better sound track and obvious reliability.
Such an amazing looking car
Hands down one of my favorite cars my step dad when I was younger went to school to be a viper tech and the dealership he was work at so he brought me to work one day to look at a couple and I just fell in love with the car don't really like the first gen I didnt like the roof but the sec gen i love them
That sound is glorious
Ridiculously awesome!!!
I've got a 2001 rt10 with forged internals, ported heads, Belanger headers, Corsa exhaust, Crower cam. Still NA, but supercharger is the plan for this winter. Definitely looking forward to some NDE's next summer. lol
On the complete flipside, I just bougt a Q60. Sorting out the plan for that as well. Surprised at how much can be done to that motor.
I used to prefer the newer gen Vipers as a kid, but growing up my tastes changed and now I kinda like the old ones more. OG Viper is my favorite now, followed by modern SRT Viper, then SRT-10.
That thing sounds great
Ayyyeee I'm Here and think Dodge Vipers are really underated supercars
Looks clean I like that.
It looks like the Hennessey TT Viper Venom I had the pleasure of playing with here in Saskatchewan. What a dream car! Miss it.
Nothing will ever be more badass than the OG gen 1 Viper:) I finally bought one :)
That dodge viper looks SO astonishing 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤😍
Had one in the shop the other day driven by a grandma. It was her 2nd viper. The oil pan is HUGE.
The Viper from That Racing Channel is a beast as well and yes Mr. Wayne it does come in black 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sweet ride!
An absolute beast!
My old neighbor has a viper. He’s no longer my neighbor because he retired and went to CO but he still has the viper🤣 I don’t know what he was thinking CO is the worst place for a viper
nice ride dude would look great with a active aero wing
The second gen viper is on my list of cars I want to own one day
Lol could that shifter lever be any smaller? The knob is pretty much inside of the transmission tunnel.
Yea i am not a fan lol. Its a stock shifter with a 1inch lower stanchion. But i plan to get the gen 3 shift knob which has the taller billet riser. Then it should be perfect.
Now we’re talking 🔥🔥🔥
you said when you think of a viper you see the red every time i think of a viper i see blue with the white stripes, it was always my car of choice as a kid in a game called test drive 5 (ps1) and it was my first dream car, more now have joined the list but you never forget your first as they say
Still one of my favorite cars.. hopefully I’ll have one before the years is up.. want to grab one before the prices get any higher and they are out of my reach
I was always a fan of the Viper, it was my bucket list car... Until i had to get in and out of one like this. I'm 6ft. 260lbs and it was like getting in and out of a small bath tub. I still love them. Maybe I'll try the generation after this one and the next gen to see how it fits me.
I don't think the newer gens got any bigger. My Viper is definitely harder to get into than my S2000.
@@blknblubkrdude i really should try a newer gen to see how it fits me.
such great cars
some times you just gotta binge watch some ThatDudeinBlue
Gorgeous
This is my dream car, alaays has been since the tv show viper, i will own one of these one day
Favorite American car. Drove a SRT10 Ram which was fun and scary but never felt the Viper’s bite.
I got recommended two videos of yours titled “(insert car here): A GTR’s worst nightmare” under this video lol. The cars were the 890HP ZR1 and a 1400HP Gen 5 Viper
Beautiful car. Timeless.
Absolutely atrocious shift lever…
This gives me an idea on throwing twin turbos in a E 60 M5 🧐😏
That car is beautiful!!!!!
Am i the only one who expected it to make like 1200 hp
The 2000-2002 motors need to be built to handle big power. Unfortunately, the only forged gen 2 motors were 96-99. Ive considered doing it one day but this car is so nice to drive as is. Its a fun 10 second steeet car without crossing that line into going more race car and losing reliability/driveability. Most likely it will stay this way as long as i own it.
@@J-Whitagreed that's a good call
What else does it have done to it? any internal engine mods to help with forced induction? Still trying to make up my mind if I want to stay NA or go turbo/supercharged.
I've always liked the sound of the Viper...for being factory, it's not a bad sound...I would opt for a more aggressive sound though considering the platform that exhaust note is supposed to be representing...something like a Black Widow 3" (10" can) with x-pipe
Here for anything Viper related
3:31 that bang .....OMG!!!
1996-02 twin turbo Vipers are legendary.
the most underrated car of all time i think. deserves to be as appreciated as the 911 and corvette
Vipers are awesome! 🤘🏻
One of the greatest cars ever made
My favorite car since Gran Turismo days 🔥🔥🔥
Would be cool to see you drive one of those built 9.0L n/a vipers
Oh the topic of dodge, I'd like to see him review a 6.1 challenger, I know it's similar to the SRT8 magnum he reviewed but I'd still like to hear his thoughts on it
I love Vipers, about the only Dodge I like and I prefer the turbo noise over the supercharger. To me it fits the sound of the engine, just flows for me.
I’m glad this víbora is not as violent as the other víboras regarding power goin over 1100HP or more and it’s like a horror movie getting terrified on how fast it goes
A second generation Viper is my absolute dream car - sadly it is way out of my budget range. On top of that not many of them in good condition are rolling around in Europe/Germany and spare parts here are super expensive, because you can't get them on every corner.
I would even leave it as unmodified as possible, except for obvious couter measures to its weak points.
I‘m from Germany too, I checked some the conditions were horrible😢😂
