I'm a new yoga teacher but I've been teaching different adult vocational classes like cosmetology, esthetics, massage, etc. It's SO important to connect with your students and I would study so hard to teach my students all of the most important things they needed to know, you know the "theory" and practical applications, etc. But the students wanted to learn WHAT was it really like to be a processional cosmetologist. What really happens in a salon? How do you handle clients, deal with stress, did you make mistakes, how to dix then, you know, those kinds of things. They wanted to see me as the professional they could look at and emulate yet also nurture their own personal style too. Once I did that they blossomed and so did I. We do a dance with our students. It took me a long time but once you get it, you get it.
