      My partner was a builder. Every job he did had the right tool, he prepped carefully beforehand and he tidied up after himself. I am more the creative type, making make-do with what I have, crossing my fingers and creating mess I’m too tired to clear away. But we were quite proud that when working together we did well. I would give the incentive to try things we hadn’t tackled before and he would keep us on track.

    Please, do not use directional lighting towards glass! All you will end up with is a LOT of glare. Instead, add lighting inside of your cabinets. If you are using woid shelving inside the glass cabinets, add a small, recessed light in the upper most shelf space. Use linear, lensed lighting on the underside of each shelf. There are amazing very small linear lighting options available that can be recessed in your shelves!
    I would also recommend that you use dimming capability on all lighting features in your kitchen, each type independently controlled (cabinet interior, undercabinet lighting that illuminates your counter, recessed can lighting, pendant lighting, etc.).
    I am a professional registered lighting designer with 30 years experience - please believe me, you will not like directional lighting that is aimed at glass.

    • @jmk1962
      @jmk1962 14 дней назад +8

      My first thought, too. Light pointed at glass is not a great idea. And yes to lighting on the undersides of shelves with one at the top. I also second dimmers. They can be added later, but it's such a savings to just install them at the start.

The fact that she’s lying about doing her lighting, plan herself.. and just tackling it now is laughable. McKenna had how much help she received and how much build contractors were doing on that cottage in Texas. She spent most of the time complaining and making up storylines for her viewers that the contractors in Texas were inept and that is why everyone is so impressed with this kitchen, Reno.

And that she doesn't know what size table to put in there. Mind blowing! If she had a good contractor, he would've checked to see if he could get the brick flooring BEFORE the project started so she could proceed w her selections if that was what was really holding her up. This should be a 6-8 week project MAX. Curious to see how long it's drawn out.

    This kitchen is going to be beautiful! As a kitchen and bath designer, I would suggest you have the cabinet maker go ahead and make a panel for a future panel ready dishwasher and one replacement panel for the trash drawer, while he’s making the rest of your cabinets. It’s very difficult to replace things after the fact and them still match the exact wood and stain. I know this is your forever home and you are the perfect type of perfectionist, so I wanted to suggest my recommendation!! 🖤

She hired drafts people to draft up all her documents that she lied and said she did herself for the permit.- the floor plan, the elevations the isometric drawings. The roof plans were all drafted by somebody else and McKenna took credit for that. She also continuously lied, pretending that the contractors were screwing up. She never filmed the amount of work that they did, including all of the finished woodwork, etc.. And she’s continuing to lie about what she is doing with this project. That lighting plan in her hand that she is pretending, she’s working on it all by herself was submitted to the city over two months ago. In order to get a permit. And she didn’t even draw her draftsperson did who she hired.

    Not sure if you will see this, but I think it would be really cool if you had a program where people could send their used candle vessels back to you and they can get a discount on a new candle and you can reuse vessels. Kinda like a “candle refill” program. I know all the cables are different colors and I have no idea what the logistics would be lol but that could be a cool incentive if people don’t have the space to keep every glass. They can use what they want and turn in used ones for more candles.

    You really lucked out in finding an incredible Contractor and workmen to get this job done efficiently and rapidly. They seem to be taking the fact that you're so pregnant very seriously and it's great to see! Cant wait for ep. 4!

    I miss the old videos where they were more relatable “do it yourself” style. Now it is a candle that is out of my price point and watching contractors where 10’s of thousands are spent . Money is tight with the economy right now so the videos you had before really gave me something that I feel I could do in my own home . Best to you and your family

      The “ do it yourself” videos are still available for you to go back and watch for inspiration. She obviously is not currently able to do the renovations herself this time with the baby coming soon. Also she explained she did become somewhat burned out doing all that work on the cottage herself. That was not that long ago so I can’t imagine tackling that again so soon even if she were not pregnant. Good for her to be able to hire a contractor. She’s worked hard to now be able to do that.

    Not that I ever doubted how gorgeous it was going to be but you can really just start to see your vision coming to life and how magnificent it’s going to be. I absolutely love the cottage kitchen but this one might take the cake!

    OMG MaCenna I am ridiculously invested in this kitchen reno! 😂 It is so exciting to see your vision come to life, step by step, and to see what truly goes into making this happen. I bet the contractor, engineer, and rest of the team are loving how clear your vision and plans are because it must be so helpful to see exact illustrations of what you want instead of having to imagine it from a verbal description. Thanks for sharing the journey with us! 💜
