Day 14, 26.9 Miles, THE END!
The last day of April, the last day of this hike.
Horsepower was awake and stepping around 5:40am~ knowing his back was going to cause issues with the miles ahead. We soon followed breaking camp around 6:40am~ as the sky was just beginning to catch its first rays of light.
The first few miles were well graded track with more than a few creek crossings to keep us proverbially and literally on our top toes. It was also spent in some quality conversation with the Professor himself, and before we knew it we were jumping into Bandy Creek CG for some water and some necessary “morning business.”
Afterwards our paces began to stretch out, and we began bouncing along the miles independently. A tiny grave well loved, gorgeous views, and caverns of rock was the flavor of many a mile, and we soon caught up with HP around Leatherwood TH.
Sharing some miles and climbing, the views continued, and the moments of a trail once again became finite.
Soon it was the last 7~ miles and we all dropped back into our own paces, for reflection, stretching the legs, or just simply walking in comforting hugs from the woods.
The last mile, along a riverbed, the trail was already about to be done. Only 2~ weeks and it was soon to be over. A long time for a hike, but also incredibly short. We were ready to be done and continue our “normal life” but also were extremely thankful for the time we had out here.
Sharing this trail with the boys, was not only a pleasure but a privilege. They are some quality folks.
Getting to stretch the legs, mind, and heart, after a lot of “chaos” in these past 2 months was necessary. Getting to just walk freely along this trail was never the original plan for this time period, but was a gift we could not have done without.
Thank you to the boys, thank you Sheltowee Trace Trail, and thank you for the gift of camaraderie, clarity, laughter, doggos, and letting us take a breath.
Thank you all for the steppin’.

Congratulations on completing the Sheltowee. It’s on my list to complete soon. If you were doing it again would you go north to south or south to north? You all really were fortunate with the drier than normal April we had this year. It could be quite a bit wetter and water crossing levels higher in a normal year. I would say your water levels were more like a normal July or August but April is definitely better for bugs. Great job with vlogs and thanks for sharing!

"Clift" must be past tense of "cliff".

Well done. Made a trip to hike around natural bridge after watching the first few of this series. Bummer about the fire. Anyway congrats on marking another trail off the list 🎉

at 5:53, what is a "high clift"? Is that a feature peculiar to KY and TN only? This was a great trail, and seems to be really "doable" by less than olympic caliber hikers. Congrats to you all!
Question: If you did this thru hike in say, August, do you think it could have turned into an Ozark Hylands experience?

I have a question I hope someone can answer. When hiking along roads what do you do with aggressive dogs?
