Embiid, Jokic, and Leonard are the plain outstanding candidates for MVP right now. LeBron just hasn't offered as much as Kawhi when you consider defence, and Kawhi beats LeBron pretty handily on that score. As Hollinger mentions, Curry is also a strong outside candidate. My guess is that their team's records will likely have an outsized impact on determining who ultimately takes the award. So barring an outstanding trade for the Warriors, it's probably three-way race.
Not sure if this is Zach Lowe’s account, if it is, just want to tell him that I miss your podcast, although you are not in ESPN now, as long as you do the podcast, I will follow and watch, u are one of the greatest
I currently have Embiid, but I agree he needs to play a lot of games. I do think this year team record may hold slightly less value, just due to covid protocols affecting teams. Embiid and Jokic are having top 20 PER seasons, and Lebron has been playing great ball.
The aggregate minutes/games played thing should not mean such a discount when Embiid’s team still has the most wins in the conference despite being 1-5 when he’s out... two way dominance, eye test dominance, advanced stats dominance- he is the clear front runner. If the Sixers finish first in the east, we’ll be seeing some very illogical narrative spinning out there.
Zach when Hollinger says Gobert could be as high as #3 on the MVP ballot lol: old.reddit.com/r/NBAPodcasts/comments/llj3q6/zach_when_john_hollinger_says_rudy_gobert_could/
OU MY GOD... PLS SPARE ME WITH GOBERT Didn't we all saw who was the most important Jazzer last 1st round vs Nuggets... It was Donovan against the world
@@cademonson9503 I've watched enough basketball over the last 15 years to know that they'll go as far as Mitchell takes them in the playoffs 👍 Definitely not Gobert
@@davincerica7232 if mitchells injured the team can still succeed now can they win it all without him? no absolutely not. but they can still make a decent run. now if gobert is hurt.... their hopes of winning anything at all are close to zero he is the glue that holds the team together the team is built around him without him the team fails. so again you should watch more basketball not just the playoffs.
@@cademonson9503 Again, stop acting smart. Gobert is overrated and it will be shown again... Defensive player who held Jokić to 26/8/6 on like 70% true shooting :)
@@davincerica7232 yes... the arguable favorite for mvp scored on him... what a great example. dude... its clear you're a gobert hater (i have a d mitch jersey and not gobert btw) which is fine. But your arguments dont hold any weight... the dude is clearly the thing that holds that team together why do they have such good 3 defense because the guards and forwards dont have to worry about the paint because goberts in their why do they have all the spacing in the world on PnRs? because goberts a real roll threat. It would be cool to have a genuine basketball debate with someone who knows about the game but obviously youtube comments arent the place to find it.. because your oh so large 15 years of watching experience has obviously been house of highlights game recaps/highlights.
The term "Hockey Assist" also has to be banned from basketball talk. Basketball players have too much volition on each touch for the hockey assist to exist in basketball. There are far too many layups being passed up for 3's for the Hockey Assist to be a real thing. The Hockey Assist leads to a direct slapshot on goal. The closest parallel play would be a double alley-oop where the player receiving the ball has no choice but to dunk the ball.

If he misses 1/3rd of the games he won't be MVP, no matter what his stats look like.

This Lebron guy is pretty good, think he will get first ballot HOF?
Debatable
Kawhi MVP.
He’s my favorite player but he’s a little bit behind right now
James harden is in the MVP race!
