Australia was freaking fantastic, I screamed a big yes when all 3 countries I voted did get to the final: Czech Republic, Australia and Iceland. And screamed a big "nooooooo" when San Marino passed... Serhat didn't deserve the final after his horrible performance. I would have loved Portugal, Hungary or even Georgia going to the final (just the duel of Otto versus his backing vocalists was gold) I'm waiting for tomorrow, after this semi, everything can happen in semi2.
anghara2001 yep totally agree. I kinda love the surprises though - it keeps the results super riveting. I don’t think a single person guessed both Belarus and San Marino
Very surprised by SAN Marino and Estonia and a little by Belarus. I hoped Poland, Portugal and Hungary would take those places. I found the semi final to be quite flat overall.
Great video... loved Australia too... very much a wow moment and San Marino ... I think the car crash performance got him through actually as it was sooo bad it was memorable ... looking forward to semi 2... love the rugby top 🏉
This popped up on my feed today, reminding me of the disastrous result where two of my favourites went out (Poland and Portugal), and one of the worst entries ever went through (San Marino)! Your voice has changed in 4 years, fascinating.
Regarding the Portugal situation... you blame the technical team for errors, instead to blame the bad taste which juries from all over the world just proven to have. Not the show's errors are the issue here, but the misjudging from professionals, which is the biggest error of all and the main reason for this unfair treatment. Portugal didn't lose, but the musical world lost its credibility. Why is that? Because a increasing number of musicians are becoming deaf, or, if they are not still deaf, they stopped to be also artists (creatives anyway).
Lets face it. this year team production is a mess, and affected every country. Some more, some less. The moment we see that open ceremony and how the cam angles were... we cannot expect a better job in Semi-finals, and grand finale. Even Australia has some angles that were unnecessary and bad. Luckily for them, the LED screen was beautiful and distracted us from the cam.
Love your comments and knowledge! I was upset about the fact that Portugal didn't make it and San Marino making it! Serhat sang awful ! Love Greece but performance was a bit of a let down to me. Actually thought her vocals were a bit off. Hatari was amazing, super performance but Klemens looked a bit tired and he really need his back up vocals at all time. The gang need a couple of days rest until Saturday! Glad Czech Republic made it. Australia was so wonderful-a no brainer to go through, just like Hatari. PS Loved the post cards!
Yea San MArino going through was unfair - it was awkwardly bad. But SM deserve a little bit of luck to be honest I thought the lighting really washed out Klemens - he looked hard to pick out and honestly, I got the impression he was sick? Im not feeling Greece as much as everyone else but definitely deserved to go through
Estonia: Watching it live from out here in TV land (in Australia, at 6am) is that Victor missed the high notes in the first verse, to the point where it literally made me wince. He totally redeemed himself in the second verse though, absolutely pitch perfect. It was from that moment that I knew he was definitely going through.
So sad Portugal didn't qualify, it was my one of my favourites for winning this year. I also liked the emotional Hungary, Georgia and even Poland. San Marino, Estonia and Czech Republic (overrated band) should've remained in semis instead. The other seven were the ones I expected to go through, although Greece staging was a little distracting with the beach ball that was supposed to be a pearl and so so vocals. Great job Serbia, Cyprus and Australia. Belarus was very surprising. I missed Maruv so much yesterday. It's not fair big 5 go directly to the final. I would like to hear your opinion about it. In my opinion, Spain (my country) and UK have worse acts than Portugal or Hungary (and many others that won't qualify in the sf2) this year. If Spain and the other 4 had to go through the semis I think they would bring better entries each year. In Spain now just the opposite happens because no matter what we bring we will be in the grand final. Not a fan of Operacion Triunfo, is a reality tv show that produces spanish hysterical fans, not good music. This year Miki was given a lot of songs, other ot contestants none. The outcome was obvoius and not very clean if you ask me. Perhaps we should find other way of selecting our entry more focused on music like Italy or Albania do.
hi rufino. my opinion is that the competition needs to be funded and also i understand that they want to have high viewership figures, because the massive audience attracts bigger artists. the population of the big 5 is 330 million. Thats a lot of potential audience for viewership and revenue. Also I believe the big 5 are the biggest contributors to the EBU - so it would be unfair if they are paying for a lot of the competition but dont get to perform, compared to someone like San Marino, who make the most minimal contribution. At the end of the day, there are plenty of spots in the final so if a country's song is good enough - they have 10 places that can take. I do admit that its frustrating when the big 5 send something bad - but this year I think all 5 have sent something decent, and in Italy and Franc's case - something special.
The resemblance to Johnny Sexton is stunning in that shirt Tom :))) Thank you for the insights. San Marino qualifying was for me one of the biggest shocks ever. Not because it is a weak entry or anything, but I thought Serhat was sick on the night or something. And yet. Not very surprised Belgium and Hungary went out. The five second rehersal footage for both already made me conclude they are in trouble. Belgium must have been one of the worst stageing disasters I have ever seen. Portugal I guess was too "strange" for the general public. Pity really. I asked you in a different video, what the reaction in the arena to Iceland was like. Cause what I got on Tv was of total coldness (some said they would be boooed but I do not think they were). Anyway glad my BDSM boys prevailed 🇮🇸. Going through tonight: Sweden, Netherlands, Russsia, Switzerland, Norway, Albania, Azerbaijan, North Macedonia, Denmark, Lithuania. Controversial choices I know!!
Sean Sean loooool Johnny sexton - I wish!!! You know that he went to my primary school but left after 2-3 years to go to a specialist rugby primary school. Hungary - in hindsight I was too blinded by the odds cos I totally agree that I was underwhelmed by the first rehearsal and put it down into my maybes but then the odds had it SAFE so I thought it was just me. Belgium - yea this was a real flop. A lot of very bad decisions in the staging and with the chorus. Iceland - honestly I didn’t notice it. I was in the standing area with the older Eurovision fans though and so everyone around me was cheering. But like I definitely didn’t notice any deadpan silence
Konstantina Komnitsa it was a great opener. Everyone went crazy. The staging was really solid and it got everyone excited. They’be been drawn in the first half so I really hope they don’t get given the opening slot again
I can imagine that hatari will use an Israel Flag in the final to hammer on this circular thing. I don't think this would be allowed (?) but imagine if they smuggled that in, how much this would underline their statement. Would have loved Hungary, Portugal and Georgia to go through, maybe instead of Cyprus, Greece and San Marino, but I'm pretty content with the results!
Hmmmmm I dont know if they would bother doing that. the EBU runs the jury final tape alongside the live one in case there is any technical faults. so if they pulled out a flag - the EBU would just switch the live broadcast to the backup tape. Then Iceland would be disqualified for nothing

This Wednesday, May 15, in social networks, several spectators who live outside Portugal and who tried to vote for Conan Osíris complained that they could not call the number assigned to the Portuguese song. In the Facebook group "TUGAvision", many fans have shared the error messages sent by the operators. "The polling lines for Portugal were blocked in some countries [they called and received a message saying 'ERROR'], namely in Spain," a viewer warned on the OGAE Portugal website.

@@ESCTom I see what you mean. I just asked because in the TV, the general reactions of the crowd are not evident at all. And I wanted to rest reassured that my favourite Iceland received a positive reaction!! Thank you.
My SF2 predictions: • Switzerland (pretty safe I think) • Romania (I think juries will like this, and Romania have qualified with much worse, diaspora should help with televote) • Denmark (not 100% on this, but unique and different) • Sweden (Definitely going through, Sweden can be cold and clinical, but this has soul and heart!) • Malta (juries will love this, radio friendly and good vocals, hopefully televote isn’t too weak to drag it out of the top 10) • Russia (its Sergey, it’s going through) • The Netherlands (Never not going through) • Azerbaijan (last spot almost guarantees qualification, good staging) • Armenia (Armenia have qualified with worse, may be 9th or 10th, jury will like the vocal, being first doesn’t help) • Norway (There’s always at least one song I don’t like that gets through, between this and North Macedonia for me, could see an Estonia 2017 with this and the jury crucifying this and I didn’t like Verona either, so may be telling)
