*JTsuits* I want to join the Navy next year as a construction electrician, and then from there become a Navy diver. The problem is that when I finish being a CE, I'll be 33, three years past the age limit for a Navy diver. I just want to know if there's a way around the age limit?
Maorawrath yes you may be able to get an age waiver but you should go diver strait off the bat 33 is old in the military and being a diver can be stresfull on your body because of the gasses you breath. you might want to talk to the recruiter about it. In my opinion just go diver because it is a special program and they may not take you at 33 even with a waiver. Plus once you are in it can be harder to get a special program.
He did a pretty decent job describing Seabees, seeing he's still fresh. CMs fix the stuff EOs break. EOs and BUs fight over who really carries the battalion. Everyone at one point will end up being BU-support. UTs and SWs usually make up that BU-support. CEs will get to know generators really well. EAs you'll rarely see or hear because they're so small in numbers and do most of the behind-the-scenes work but their findings are important to the overall product
I would agree with all of that. I was an EO for NMCB 4 from 2010-2014. Only Seabee Rates deployed to a ship/out to sea are EO & CM they operate/Maintain the Equipment to Load and unload ships(IE: Forklifts). Really your just and all around Jack Of All Trades. They will expect you to know how to do other Seabee Rates.
As an EO, I deployed on the USNS Martin from Sig to Saudi through the Suez and then to Kuwait. We brought all the equipment for the battalions for OIF. 34 days at sea!
Is EO a decent rate? I ship May 27th and I wanted to be a BU but was told they probably won’t have an opening for that in a while being that I’m going as Reserves.
Awesome interview you did with the Seabee there. Explained so many new things, I never knew before about their rates, their quals, and working and living situations. Excellent job bro.
Me and my wife both experienced working with the Seabees. I was a regular Navy blackshoe assigned to them in Sicily, including being in a duty section. At morning quarters my uniform was regular Navy, surrounded by Seabees in their greens. My wife was the secretary for the Seabees in Bahrain, a civilian position.

UMassForTrump For high responsibility enlisted options such as being a nuke the rank and pay grade is usually higher. I kinda assumed he meant he was leaving for the fleet, not for training
UMassForTrump actually when you sign on as a Nuke you go in at an advanced rate, same thing applies for the special warfare or challenge programs. However I also did a few semesters of college and also did jrotc all throughout high school, so either way I would have made e3 through any of those individually. Nukes also are automatically given e4 after completing A school and can get e5 if they Do some reenlist thing during the last phase of their third school. Thought about why anyone would join the Navy (Seabees) while not wanting to go to sea? Seabees have a proud legacy and the Navy has a get-it-done mentality (unlike another branch I won't mention which I work for as a civilian now). Navy "A" school also tends to teach a broad-based skill set. So, on balance, it's better to go construction in the Navy than in the other branches. I had to wait 2 years to strike into the Seabees. My recruiter told me "No you wont have to go to see. You will just wait a few weeks for an opening then you can get into the Seabee 'a' school"
