After that every day I used to drink it until I left for my home town...such a heavenly taste it had....love from pune
You can use any bitter tea 😉. Milk is optional. If you use salty butter then salt is optional. If you use unsalted butter then salt is must. In this techworld, I got blender instead of churning ultility..
wow I love this tea. I drunk at bodh gaya at the tibatien family give me this tea its very strong because I was sick that day BT sometimes later my fever is almost gone and I come back home. and I again say nice recipe
I know about Tibet tea in a class 9th subject is Hindi and chapter lahasa ki aur this chapter is all about Tibet than I search how to make a Tibet tea in RUclips I will try this recipe at At home and I'm very excited to taste a butter tea 😊😊 this recipe is really good 🥰🥰😍😍
Hello Anjali, thank you for your comment. Very nice to learn that Tibet is in your syllabus. :) May I also know which state board or central board is the syllabus under? I would like to read the textbook. Would be interesting. Make a delicious tea and cheers!
The traditional churner I believe gives the best taste, like any other traditional method. I've been wanting to drink gur gur chai for 29 years now Hope one day i get to drink it preferably in Tibet itself
Tibetan Butter Tea is a misnomer. Tibetans call it either Tsa Ja (Salty Tea) or Bod Ja (Tibetan Tea). Butter may or may not be used but salt is essential.
Tibetan tea I was served in Southwest Tibet used alkali salt from the dry lake beds. It has many other salts besides regular table salt, such as calcium sulfates, carbonates and bicarbonates. Also, the flavor is unique to the region because the yak butter has a distinct, different flavor. And often the women cooking it would feed the stove with dried yak dung and then grab a handful of tea leaves without washing their hand so you got a bit of aroma from the yak dung. It was delightful and I think you must go to Tibet to find the real thing!
Tibetans usually use a tea that is compressed to a shape of a brick. I searched on amazon to sent you a link but it is not available there. Usually, at places like Ladakh, McLeod, Majnukatilla and Tibetan settlement areas in South India, you will easily find it in shops.
I'm here after reading a travelogue related to tibet, the author had travelled tibet and has written his experience about tibet, Tibetan tea has been mentioned in his experiences, I was confused do anyone make tea with butter and salt because I've never seen, heard and tasted any tea with salt and butter, our indian tea is generally made with sugar and milk....nice tutorial..
Nowadays there is ready to make Tibetan butter tea mix manufactured by local Tibetan entrepreneur. But it tastes bad and only serves to bring bad reputation to Tibetan tea.
I want to ask... if it’s okay... About the salt... I wonder what is it for?? 🤔 also if it must use salt... how much it shall be? I like to try it... Hope for some help...☺️
Nina Mule Lyons I think you can try with black tea although usually made with a special Tibetan tea or regular tea leaves. I have seen people who prepare it with strong black tea so that milk, butter and Salk are not overpowering the base ingredient which is the tea.
I think she used Chinese brick tea broken into pieces. But I use dust tea and also normal CTC tea (no mixed tea like long leaves and CTC leaves and also no masala tea). Never use Darjeeling tea or Jasmin tea for making timetable tea.
Because butter is salty. Adding sugar is probably not the best idea. The tea is usually very tasty, and if you are not sure about salt you can skip it and add salted butter instead.
It's not unhealthy if it's taken in moderation. In the high altitude Himalayan regions people has been drinking this from hundreds of years. But. High blood pressure is an issue in the Tibetan communities in exile.
Tibetan drink copious amount of this every day in Tibet 10-20 cups. In Tibet, people have highly mobile as they live on high altitude and in cold. Both my parents, grandparents never had heart disease despite drinking so many cups of butter and salt tea. But this tea may not be good for a people who live at sea level with a sedentary lifestyle.
Refined white salt which is heated to high temperatures is toxic. Whole, unrefined salt like Caltic is healthy. Dr. David Brownstein, an internationally recognized holistic MD wrote a book 'Salt Your Way to Health'. If your sodium levels are too high it simply means that your potassium levels are too LOW. These minerals counterbalance each other. Fresh vegetables have potassium. Many people use 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar in orange juice or in water with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to boost potassium and keep sodium in check.
Your dongmo churner is disappointing. It is plastic. Bad for health. I saw in local Indian market steel dongmo ( perhaps made specially for us Tibetans!). But it is big and not available in small size like yours. Those who want to use mixer grinder for churning, never churn it when tea is hot as it will all splatter out. But you can use electric hand blender even for hot tea. I used to it own orpat brand electric hand blender for making Tibetan tea. There is another version of Tibetan tea from lithang region in Tibet called jasak. It is thick with mixture of tsampa, ginger, nutmeg shavings and of course tea brew with lots of butter. It can be made with and without milk. Drinking this tea is sure to make one perspire. If you meet anyone from lithang, be sure to ask to teach you how to make it.

Salt and butter in tea?how it will taste . Not at all like normal milk tea.
Good job! Delicious tea.
I had also heard From somewhere That they add soda as well in their teas is it true ?
That's right. People do put baking soda for color and a specific taste but the soda is just a pinch. Not a lot.

What is a kunak? Is it used in the preparation of Tibetan tea?
I was searching for bulletproof tea
Which tea powder must be used for better results?

It is awesome with salt but you can add the sugar as well (so water, tea, milk, butter, salt and sugar/honey) :)
Beautiful video
You can also use red label tea.
I tried it. It is super delicious!!!!
nice film

Is there a reason for the salt? I'm not opposed to trying it. I'm just trying to wrap my mind around salty tea.
It provides heat to the body
Thank you. :)
No idea. Maybe sugar or any sweetners were not widely available in Tibet in ancient times.
It is like taking soup with salt. Hahaha
awesome.. no need for sugar?? What about spices, can we use them??
Aziz Saud No spices.
What kind of tea is used in the traditional tibetan butter tea? ps: I'm from Brazil
I've always enjoyed tea with milk and raw cane sugar. Why doesn't demo include measurements. That would help.?
Milk 50 percent. Brewed tea 50 percent. Salt and butter as your taste. You can reduce milk quantity if you want it light, less milky.
In baltistan pakistan this tea also used here.
my favorite tea .
Bhai namkeen chai achi lagti hai kya ....???
I want to ask... if it’s okay...
About the salt... I wonder what is it for??
🤔 also if it must use salt... how much it shall be?
I like to try it... Hope for some help...☺️
The salt brings out the taste. Without salt the tea will taste bland so if you are reluctant to use more salt than you can add just a little bit.
Nice video....
Very unique tea😋🥰
I want to try from srilanka
I don't like the camera being shaky, BUT, other than that, everything is nicely done.
Awesome....
This is my favourite tea
I feel fresh
Can i add sugar or is that never ever done
adding sugar would be a completely new experiment. I suppose it will not taste good given the other ingredients.
What is this magical song
like! ❤️from Ukraine
I didn’t add milk but it was mild tasty salty was different in taste
I also do that when I don't have milk and I like it. Main thing is adding butter churning it well to get the flavor.
Yak butter!!!

From Coffee tea lover😋😋
What kind of tea did you use?
Mato OTAM Taj Mahal tea. Made in India.
time goes on thnx
I think she used Chinese brick tea broken into pieces. But I use dust tea and also normal CTC tea (no mixed tea like long leaves and CTC leaves and also no masala tea). Never use Darjeeling tea or Jasmin tea for making timetable tea.
What kind of tea? Black tea?
Green tea leaves. Tibetan families in India also use the 'Taj Mahel Tea'.
Thank you for the video. But please avoid using aluminium. It is not good for health.
good one
Thank you!
Tea Without suger.. Mmm.. Let me think..Whether I hv to make it or no

I added sugar instead of salt and it feels like yuuuuuuuk

Where is sugar....?
GYANENDRA PAL SINGH tibetan tea uses salt not sugar.
I heard the butter tea on my asian eat class....I’m a Chinese but I didn’t know the butter tea is from China lol
this tea isnt from China...Its from Tibet...
Nothing lol about this...
South Efrikan Tibet is part of China. This tea might be not from the Han culture but it is still chinese
