  • Take a close up tour of the legendary Solid State Logic 4000 series console!
This video looks at the mono channel strip and all of its functions, we also pull out a strip from the console to have a close up look.
Part 2 and 3 will delve into the centre section, power supplies and calibration methods.
If you have any questions or clarifications, leave them in the comments and we'll try to do a followup video soon.
Also forgive my waffling, it's quite difficult to explain the complexities of these consoles in a 15 minute video, but I've edited it down the best I could
    Thanks
    Chad

I'm so glad I got this tour by an Australian, all my life I looked for a video like this. I can't thank you enough and it was so refreshing to hear "righto", "on the fritz" etc etc. Wish I was in Perth to come use the console.

I've learned more about the actual SSL Console's internals through your videos than in school, thanks for doing this series and Good Luck With The Channel!

Wow thank you Chad, I have a recording session tomorrow as the assistant engineer and I was pretty scared of the patchbay because I havent been doing complex routing but you reminded me that it is pretty straight forward in most cases. Thank you so much !!!

Thanks so much. This is fantastic. Very valuable. Appreciate the efforts. Pitty u don’t have automation. If you haven’t got the computer running check out tangerine audio. Will give it to you in a more updated version, and yoy can buy the tots recall and automation with it. Would love to see more on the board and how to use it in action.
    Cheers
    Benny

Hey mate, yep I've researched the tangerine stuff, it's great but a little pricey for me at the moment. I'm happy doing automation in protools, although here are some drawbacks I know. Maybe they could give me one and I'll do a promo video of it in action :)

Hey mate love this video series! Can you tell me anymore about the power supply? you say it's a switched mode, which traditionally linear was always the way to go for audio gear. I am in the process of restoring an Auditronics 700 series 36ch console and having issues with the dual power supplies it runs. Looking for a solution to upgrade, as there is no information out there on the models i have ( Auditronics PS-1215M ) for service and repairs, but the price of the ones shown in the video is a bit out of my price range: (Edit: sorry thought it was the Atomic for some reason)... so, really got me wondering how these switched modes are now top of the line and what is different about them? Thanks for the awesome videos!

Switchmodes are much more efficient, physically light, quieter and cooler. You do need to put well built LCR filtering after the PSUs to reduce switching noise and get clean DC to the console. The expensive switchmode PSUs builders use the big Meanwell supplies. Check the peak to peak noise on the data sheets, they do vary depending on the model.
      Hope this helps!
