    Finally a straight forward system for the DIY'r that just loves to polish and finish for the most part, but typically doesn't have 20 years of experience on every type of paint finish and the same level of knowledge of pads and polishes that the pros would have from their broad band of experience. Now all we have to do is pick a pad and product. Thank you both, Rupes and Esoteric!

    • @danlc95

      It runs the gamut of extreme cutting to super fine finishing in just three liquids.
      Not perfect. The Coarse can get dusty. But the level of defect removal is striking. The Fine cam also get dusty and exhibit M205 characteristic of sticking to the paint, but will cut like a medium, and finish like a fine. Think Menzerna 2500. The Pure can also stick to some paints, but the finish is like nothing I've experienced.

    Semi impressed so far. I like the yellow and white pads, not a fan of the blue. I like the Rupes blue and yellow wool. I’ve used the DA Fine polish a good amount and I like it. The DA coarse blue dusted quite a bit, and the one time I tried uno pure/white pad on my soft black test hood and it didn’t finish well. So, I only have a good amount of experience with DA fine, so take my comments with a grain of salt. 😃

    Todd I think that would be a great video on why or why not to use a polish such as uno before Coating!

    • @Esotericdetail
      @Esotericdetail  4 года назад +2

      If somebody is referring to "jeweling" as a potentially third step after polishing, then they're doing something wrong in the polishing stage. If your system, products, and techniques are solid, then an extra polishing step should not increase the looks of the finish. As for the topic of polishing prior to coating, we have done a video on that subject.

    Thanks for another good video!
    Question: I can see that the white one is a no need for me but I can see myself using both the blue foam and the yellow.
    You talked about that in 90% you only need a compound for cutting and one for finish. But how about the pads. The blue cuts but not like wool or MF. If I have a harder paint and want to use DA coarse gel and DA coarse fine compound with a cutting pad and a finishing pad what are a good choice?
    Rupes Yellow wool and DA gel coarse
    Yellow pad and DA gel fine?
    What do you use for sort of cutting pad? Rupes wool yellow/blue? Lake country microfiber?

    • @Esotericdetail
      @Esotericdetail  4 года назад

      It just depends on the paint and the situation you're dealing with. If the blue foam pad doesn't give you the cut you want, then step down to either a yellow or blue Rupes wool pad to see if that gets you the results you're looking for. Once you find that, then you try your normal finishing process (yellow pad and polish, for instance) to verify that will get you the finishing results. I hope this helps.

      Yes, I test all products before releasing any videos. I think they are all very solid products, and they will be quite popular as a result. As I've stated elsewhere, it's not fair to do a direct comparison on products that are separated by a 40% difference in pricing, as the premium product should be the higher performing of the two. But the difference isn't huge, and not everybody wants to pay premium pricing for a little more performance. The new Rupes polishes come in smaller sizes, so it's easy to try them out without making a huge commitment.

    May I ask a few questions:
    I'm using the Rupes LHR15Mk III which I like for a number of reasons. That together with their now "old" system with 4 finishes: blue, green, yellow and white.
    So, using these I have a very fine control over what is happening to the paint. If Rupes now makes that system obsolete, and changes it's program to just 3 steps max, there is logically less user input control and more cut and polish control to work with. A cut or a polish that does not alter itself as much, will in my humble view always make me in control, where as using a cut or polish that alters more as it works on the pad ad paint, gives less control and demands more attention from the user. With the old system I can chose a cut that is niot as harsh (green) and work the surface over, even locally. With the new blue that as you explained it, expands it's working range, I may risk having to be too abrasive, therefore making more tests, spending more time etc. etc.
    If the real goal from Rupes with this new program, dropping the green range, is to cut time and make users make moremoney in shorter time (let's be honest here), it seems a bit contraproductive to me at least, to have to make more tests etc. Of course there's agreat deal of experience in it, but I am sure Rupes chose their "old" 4-step program for a number of reasons.
    So, could you elaborate a bit on the factors in play here?
    To say it straight, I am certainly not cenvinced of Rupes new system of only 3 steps with a varying cutting ability, compared to their old program of 4 more controllable steps.
    I feel it's a bit of a step backwards for the sake of gaining some other parameters like time saving, expense saving etc.
    While that is probably very relevant to customers of ordinary every day use cars and those who does the job polishing them, fair enough, it's not relevant to customers who want a perfect job where money is not an object on their expensive old original paint job cars. So this new Rupes program seems to suit the ordinary cars better, and the expensive rare cars less. What is your take on that?
    So what to do?
    Kind regards.

    • @danlc95
      @danlc95 3 года назад +1

      I've been using the old system since 2015 - on and off with other products I have. But since 2017, I used the old system significantly more than the others.
      Since this August I've been using the new liquids on the original pads (blue and yellow microfiber, yellow and white foams).
      Coarse: the new product cuts faster and cleaner. Stays wet longer - if needed. Less prone to dusting, and wipes off much, much easier. The new product can be shot cycled if necessary. I've not yet tried this on foam. Original blue Microfiber only.
      Fine: Very similar to Keramik in cut to finish. Thinner viscosity than Keramik, doesn't stain pads grey. Smoother buffing feel under the pad. Easier wipe off. When I first got the system it was just Zephir, Keramik, blue and yellow microfiber pads, and yellow foam pads. I used Keramik with yellow microfiber for one step polishing, where one might typically use Quarz/green foam pad. When I got Quarz I found that it worked great on both the green and yellow foam. Using the new DA Fine on the blue foam, or yellow wool might be able to fill the gap Quarz / Green foam leaves behind?
      Uno Pure: Much better user experience all around. Where Diamond was sort of sticky in application and resistant in wipe off, Uno Pure is super smooth under the pad in application, and incredibly easy to wipe clean from the surface. The finish it leaves is incredible. Better than Diamond. Uno Pure, Menzerna SF4000, and 3D ACA520 (no particular order) are the only polishes that blew my mind.
      I don't work in the production environment. In my own business from home, I just want the best results. Where I and hired to perform paint corrections, the owner of the establishment, like me - wants 100% sheer perfection. We regularly have McLaren, Maserati, Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, etc, etc coming through the door for film, tint, paint correction and coatings. @@danlc95 Thank you for the detailed description. I will for sure try the new ultra fine (white) pad and polish. Probably also the yellow. I am having trouble with the desigh of the glue one, that seems more coarse than the old one. Exactly not what I want. And since the green is now gone from their program, there is a gap to the yellow.
      I prefer working with foam pads. But that is just me.

      @@monzarace - I also prefer foam when I can get away with it, but I've been surprised with their new wool. Much easier to deal with than the microfiber.
      In some countries you can get the original liquids in the 5L size. I considered doing this prior to the release of the new line. I still might, just in case.
      There were other things I loved about the originals, and that was the scent of Zephir and Keramik.

    Hi Todd I followed your advice and use a yellow of for an all in one or use a similar product like sonax I use koch chemie. However sometime I use the yellow pad as my all in one out use it also as for finishing off instead of a white pad.

    Hi. Do you know how Uno Pure compares to Menzerna SF3500? There doesn't seem to be much information on Pure out there yet. I can't even find if it's SMAT, DAT or a combination. Do you know if Uno Pure has more / less cut than SF3500 or how it finishes out on dark soft paints compared to SF3500? I've been doing M105 followed M205 / Ultimate Polish followed by SF3500.

    • @Esotericdetail
      @Esotericdetail  4 года назад +1

      I haven't done a direct comparison on it. As for the make-up, does the makeup of the abrasives really matter in the grand scheme of things? I ask this because for us, we could care less about the type of abrasives it has...we only care with how it works. Also, a 3-step is totally unnecessary 99% of the time! 2-steps are where it's at, and it will save you time, money, and effort.

    • @Ryan_H22
      @Ryan_H22 4 года назад

      ESOTERIC Thank you for the information. In my (in?) experience I have found that the makeup does make a difference for me. I can get a more uniform finish with a SMAT product. And I can go back over an area to refine it and not have to spend the time working it until it breaks down to finish it. So the type of abrasive does affect how it works for me thus making it important. That said, I really like how the SF3500 finishes out but not that I can't just touch it up. You have to run it long enough to break it down in my experience. And thanks for the advice on doing two instead of three steps. If I can find out if the Uno Pure is SMAT or DAT maybe I'll try it as a second / final step. Thanks again for your time!
