Listening via headphones while I rotary some contours using a trusty Dewalt, meguiars red and white wool pad and M100. Finishing with Rupes 21, Rupes Yellow foam and again M100 finishes really well on harder paints. Do love me some Rupes wool discs on some heavy cut projects. You know it when you need it.
Todd. Thanks for bringing these pads to the US. I can’t wait to try them. Do you think you could do a video showing the results of each pad? Or maybe a comparison with the Meguiar’s?
I like the idea, but honestly don't know what it would really show, particularly since there are so many variables of paint types, paint conditions, etc, etc. Both the compounding pads (blue and yellow) are going to show "full correction", with different haze levels that will be hard to show on camera. As soon as I do that, I'd have a bunch of people chiming in: "yeah, but you didn't do it on "x" type of paint, or "y" type of defects.
So far all of the new Rupes foam and wool pads have been amazing. Ill have to try these as well. I love their compounds as well. It seems like the Rupes stuff has become my go to.
I haven’t tried the microfiber pads but the Rupes Wool pads are definitely a game changer, one question do those wool pads really stay more cool than foam and microfiber?? I’ve heard they’re really good at staying cool!
They stay a bit cooler, but if you're using the MF pads correctly, you're not worried about getting up to the levels of temperatures that it's an issue. So for us, running "cool" doesn't make any difference in what we do, or how we evaluate them. It's all about how well they work new, how well they work after several months, what kind of finish they can achieve, and how consistent they are across all paint types.
It sounds like the coarse blue microfiber is the most aggressive. I used the blue pad on the hood of a 08 Honda after gently wet sanding w 3000 grit. It came out shiny enough that I sold that car last week. I'm now trying to figure out which pad to try on my 2nd car. Orange Griot's w Sonax products didn't get moderate scratches out on silver car. Is this yellow microfiber a better 1st choice to do a test spot as opposed to their wool pad ?
Consistency. I would rather have a product that ranks an 8 all of the time as opposed to one that can rank 9 on some paints, but just a 6 or 7 on others.
Thanks, and glad you like the content. I also have a Rolex GMT Master II and swap them out each week. They're both fantastic but have a completely different feel to them as the Tudor is larger and heavier.
Todd, could you post a pic or video of what a pad looks like when you feel it should be discarded? I sometimes argue with myself about whether I am tossing pads too early and wasting money.
Hi Todd, love your concise explanations. If you had to pick between Rupes' blue wool pad and yellow microfiber pad as your go-to compounding pad, which one would you pick?
Hi Todd, Great videos and really enjoying the channel. I have a couple GM vehicles to do paint correction on both with very light defects (2018 black paint, 2022 grey paint). I understand this clearcoat and paint is relatively soft. You're recommending Rupes yellow foam and maybe white foam ultra fine for finishing on these applications? Could a yellow or white Rupes wool pad work well also if necessary? Thanks
Thank you! As always, you won't know the exact process until you can do some test sections on the vehicles. The black paint in particular will definitely take a lesser aggressive approach, particularly on finishing. Chances are, foam will be the only way to properly finish that black paint in particular.
I used the Yellow MF with Sonax Perfect Finish on white paint. It looks great but obviously tough to see any haze it may or may not have left. Would you do a finishing step with White MF or foam with say Uno Pure before ceramic coating?
How are these compared to the Lake Country microfiber lineup? Also where are the 2" pads? Part of my issue with these is while I have all Rupea pada currently, that's because they offer them in all sizes. I run 5", 3", and 2" pads. It sort of sucks thet don't offer their microfiber in the 2" size...while other brands do.
I'd switch them out after every panel. And I recommend air blowing them out with air even during each section not just after, no more haze. I just hope that the fibres in the centre don't fray and same for the outside edge of the pads which when they do they expose that sharp edge of white material under the microfibre which some competitors wool and microfibre pads do and can scour paint. I'd like microfibre to be fully wrapped around the sides of the pad like a foam pad is so the sharp edges are covered. The centre hole is good but for better cooling some 6-8mm holes around the centre hole like the Americana foam pads, I found that there's heat still building up one to two inches away from the centre hole.
Bro which is good for panel im using a foam pad for all car im polishing can you help me which one is good because my campany using polytop brand works is good but i want more quickly and like one time polish microfiber pad is good?
We have not found this to be an issue with our design Matthew. And the liquid compound used has a big influence over what you are referring to....meaning...fiber wear, temperature, and edge performance can not really be evaluated without factoring in important contributors like liquid compound and technique.
This is very interesting. I know what I’d order once I ran out of my Megs MF pads! Curious to know though, how would you stack these against Rupes’ corresponding colored wool pads? Would u say these cut slightly less but offer better finishing potential for example?
The wool pads are good, but they're not as consistent across as many paint types as the microfiber pads are. I've found some that they (wool) work ridiculously well on, and others not so much. I want consistency, and as few choices / variables in the shop as possible.

The mark buss ! Thanks to JR and the team for delivering much need line up. Much thanks to you Todd and Esoteric team for binging this one to us. Does the rupes microfiber has the same diameter as the meguiars DMC5 and DMC6.
Hi Todd, I've only recently had to tear the packaging off the Rupes Blue Wool pad after what felt like banging my head against the wall with all manor of different foam pads. I thought I had the answer for BMW Ceramic paint but now you've thrown a spanner in the works. Is it possible to say which one would be used over the other?
I find the microfiber pads to have more consistency across more paint types. You may find some paints where the wool works "better", but others not as much. I want a pad that works really well, all of the time, regardless of paint.
The only one in question would be the white finishing mf pad. If you need anything more aggressive than a yellow polishing pad, then you're reaching for either the yellow or blue microfiber pads...not anything from the foam lineup. But if you're doing a one-step or a finish polishing job, you'd need to do test sections with a yellow rupes foam and compare to the white microfiber to see what's going to give you the better results you're looking for.
Hi Todd ! I was wondering if by any chance are you the instructor that teaches people how to detail in Fort Worth,Florida? If so, I am very interested of taking the three day course somewhere around January, or February of 2023.
Too many variables to give a definitive answer, but for us, which one is more consistent across all paint types is what's most important, and that would be the microfiber.
Foam pads for us will be limited to polishing (one-step for instance), or for finishing. If we need something more aggressive than a polishing pad, then we are using a compounding pad like the yellow one in this lineup, then following that up with a polishing / finishing foam pad. As for the new white MF pads, we need to play with them some more to see if it would be a preferred pad for one-steps, or if we stay with their yellow polishing pad.
Depends on a lot of factors, really. When doing a true multi-step correction though, it typically starts at about 8 hours and goes up from there. For more detailed information, please check out our new ONLINE training program at: www.esotericdetail.com/education

6:17 these pads have holes for bolt. back-plate has velcro which will scratch clear, when pad gets pressed that much. especially when run over contour.
A foam pad with a hole in it is less dense, which means it would have a far greater chance of this happening. Having used open-holed Rupes pads and polishers for a decade now, I have never once had it happen, or heard of it happening. Therefore...it's a non-issue.
I’ve tried them up but I have to say I’m disappointed, although I’ve been a rupees fan for years. Problem with them is they not durable at all and not cost effective at all, Lake country pads do the job way better and they really can take a of abuse
@@cartradediary6131 Interesting as we have had zero reliability issues. Are you changing them out after every panel or two? What is your wash process like for the pads after use?
You have us confused with others who use what they sell, whereas we sell what we use...huge difference. Also, we are first and foremost a very busy and successful detailing business which gives us a lot of opportunity to test and evaluate a lot of products and techniques, and to determine what gives us the best and most consistent results. People ship their cars in from all over the country specifically for these results. So then, once we establish what works best for us with the most consistent results, we then see if we can offer them to the detailing community.
Which pads are for a one step correction ? Also Could the car be compounded and then finish with something like Rupes uno protect if the customer wants it cheaper without coating?

@@Esotericdetail ordered a bunch, thank you
@@cpb3958 Thank you for your business!
Lake Country HDO microfibres pads blue cut or orange one step for me at the moment the best one.have to try new rupes and compare with LC.Good job👌Many thanks 😃
How many cars before broken that pad?
@@dennisarcega837
does not understand the question. but if you mean how many cars have I broken? then my answer is simple. zero cars., but I broke a few test panels like everyone who started detailing🤪
@@mmcarspani1623 bro that pad if you use how many times im planing to try the rupes microfiber did you try already the microfiber pad?
Do you guys get pad stall on rupes lhr 15?
No. It's all in the technique!
@@Esotericdetail I’ve been trying to get used to it, and blowing out pads with compressed air isn’t as easy since it doesn’t free spin like my old polisher, just need more time to get used to. 🙏🏻
@@blkfxbb327 Put an M8 washer between the backing plate, and where it mounts to the machine. This spacer allows it to free spin.

Your answer to "pad stall", and then some is right here: www.esotericdetail.com/education
Todd, you ever try the Griot's MF pads?
At one time I did, and they didn't provide the performance I was looking for.
@@Esotericdetail Thanks
Could you please demo these pads
I like the idea, but honestly don't know what it would really show, particularly since there are so many variables of paint types, paint conditions, etc, etc. Both the compounding pads (blue and yellow) are going to show "full correction", with different haze levels that will be hard to show on camera. As soon as I do that, I'd have a bunch of people chiming in: "yeah, but you didn't do it on "x" type of paint, or "y" type of defects.
👍
What speed are you using them at?
@@Esotericdetail 4 in general
@@cartradediary6131 Interesting as we have had zero reliability issues. Are you changing them out after every panel or two? What is your wash process like for the pads after use?
Don’t run it over 5 , if so they will blow up!
There's no need with any pads to run over speed 5. Speed 4.5 is what you should be using at least 95% of the time!
You can* with meguiar’s is all I’m saying both are good. But what I will say if* you run these pads over as you say 4.5. They will not last.
Paid shill for Rupes.
All he’s going to recommend is whatever he sells I’ve not even watched the video I’m out
He promotes and sells the products he believes in thats all. It wont be in his arsenal and store if it didn’t met his standards.
@@vincentmiano342 Well said.
Which pads are for a one step correction ? Also Could the car be compounded and then finish with something like Rupes uno protect if the customer wants it cheaper without coating?
Probably wool medium
Thanks for the info 👍
