Great vid. I've had this problem on 2x SLKs. It's worth pointing out that, after fitting the new brake switch, you *may* need to reset the BAS, by starting the engine and turning the steering wheel full lock to the left, full lock to the right, then back to centre. Then drive off and after only a minute or so, the BAS light will extinguish. If your steering wheel is dead centre when changing the brake switch, you may not need to do this. There have been people that have fitted a new brake switch and then the BAS light has stayed on, and they've assumed it's not fixed - purely because they didn't reset the BAS using the above procedure.
Thanks mate! I followed your advice and bought the part last night on ebay (£10 including postage - arrived this morning!!) after fitting the lights went out and stayed out! This is a real result as I bought the car as spares or repairs for £800, not bad for a 2000 C240 Sport estate with new MOT, tax, fsh and in great condition too! Thanks again! Paul
I had the same issue with my 1999 C230k. The BAS/ASR light would illuminate shortly after starting the car. Followed your instructions and replaced the brake light switch. All is well now. Thank you for the tutorial.

I had this problem with my 99 C230. First thing I did was to change the stop light switch, the problem ended right away. Than you for your video and instructions. The most difficult part form me was to assemble again the hood release handle. My bottom plastic part was smaller and did not go all the way to the brake release area. It was easy and fun. I spent $12 bucks. My car is fixed. Thanks for the video and the suggestions.

I actually had my Mercedes-Benz E420 sitting for like 4 months because all of those lights went on aunt this happened at the end of my shift at 2 a.m. I started my car and the motor started going all crazy shaking the accelerator would not work the braking system would not work and when I tried to get home from work I was going like 10 miles to 20 miles on the freeway I drove like that for like 14 miles the fastest it would go was about 35 to 40 going down so when I got it home I let it sit there because I had other vehicles is my backup. So like my roommate and I did was turned on one of the videos from RUclips to figure out what the problem was cuz I took it in tell mechanic to get worked on and he didn't solve the problem he just cleaned the mass air flow sensor. Car worked for about a week if even that and then it started up again with the lights all of them the skid control all of those went on so what my roommate did was he turn the key on all the lights on the panel went on but didn't turn the vehicle on just turn the key to where all the lights went on left it for like 3 minutes turned it in the off position and then turned it to the on position and start the car that reset all of the system however it did leave the check engine lights on so what we did was we drove it on the freeway gave it a good run perfect role nicely didn't stall didn't slow down didn't Shake didn't do any of what it was doing before so then when we came to a stop and I knew we weren't going to go anywhere I did was I turn the key again in the off position and then turned it to where all the panel lights went on after I did that left it for about 3 to 4 minutes turned it in the off position and then turned on the car and all the lights were gone car runs perfectly now save me about $500 from the mechanic even $1,200 from one quote. I'm so mad at myself let it sit there for 4 months when all we had to do was turn it to where all the lights went on 3 to 4 minutes turned it off and then turned on the car and it reset everything. my car runs like a champ now!

On my W202 250td - what worked was CLEANING all the abs sensors on each wheel , they work on Magnet principle(at least how my mechanic explained to me) Once they were cleaned from the metal scrapings from brakes - the bas/asr light went off. Worth trying
Will this also cause the car to not break and rev to 3,000 rpms or limp mode should I say

I did this for my son's car but if it helps any body else I also cleaned the wheel sensors with brake cleaner and wet and dry sand paper so that the sensor contact points were visible again without any grime so they were metallic looking all worked beautifully............. many thanks........Australia

My lights came on today! Just as I was going on a road trip. Hope to repair on the go! If I can find a switch. If not I will wait til I get home. I guess my car will keep running tho my ABS is gone now. I can al least get where I’m going. Thx dude!

In the interest of helping solve this issue for others, I just just fixed this problem by replacing the ARB bushes and drop links. These two parts wear out quickly on the w210 and cause you to feel every bump in the rd. After replacing these parts the lights are now out, as the bumps were triggering the warning.

I reckon you should change the brake light switch, the part is so cheap it is worth a try first. If it doesnt work you will have to get a diagnostic done on the car.

my ABS light started to come on my 230slk I removed the switch and drilled a small hole in the switch then flushed it with contact cleaner, there are two sets of contacts one for brake lights and one for the abs system, this cured my problem.
fuse number 19 of brake light !. Be sure that if for whatever reason the fuse is burned, bas asr will light up and indicate that there is a malfunction, only then should you think to check everything else, I hope I helped some of you who just burned a fuse of the brake light

I took the dash cluster out of my Mercedes which took about 10 minutes and removed the SRS light bulb to get it through the MOT as i couldnt get it to go away. It came on after the car was jacked up. Thought id mention this if any one has the same problem when it comes to the MOT. The same chap in the video has another video showing how to remove the dash cluster. Do this is at your own risk.

when these lights are showing the first a simplest thing to do is go to brake pump and unlock the plastic locking devices on the two multi plugs very carefully unplug them check for corrision or moisture you may find their ok and carefully replug them into position making sure they are fully in and relock them i done this on my 2003 e class as a last resort after many years and much money it takes about 20 minutes .
I have 03 e320. Will this cause the car to not break or go into limp mode. Mine is stuck in limp mode.

I have the same problem on my Mercedes c180 W202. I checked if the brake light switch was broken, but it seems fine. The brake lights are flashing when I push the button in and out on the brake light switch. But could it be broken even if the brake lights are flashing?

My benz c 180 w 202 show abs on dash board have problems with gear not selecting and i bay break light switch and is selecting now but abs still on dash board it will go and come what will i do
i think even after you do change your brake switch you need to have to codes cleared to make the lights go away .. i did on mine.

Right before my abs lights come on in my 2013 c250 the brake pedal gets resistance and vibrates a bit then works fine then the abs light comes on. It has 30,000 miles and brakes still work normal. Checked to see if fluid is low but seems filled.
It could be a brake light switch and it can happen if your brake pads or your brake discs are too worn.
This could be the brake light switch it is a possibility change the switch and see what happens. This problem can also occur if the brake pads and brake discs are too worn

Hey everyone. I have have a 2000 c280 and I had this problem as well. However changing the break light switch didn't help. I ended up having to replace my high pressure break relay that is in the rear section of the fuse panel under the hood on the driver side. The part cost me 16 dollars shipped.. Replaced and light is gone.. First time in 6 years.

On my car (2000 w202) there is a fuse panel under the hood on the drivers side. The first part is blade fuses, the second part houses block type relays. It's located in the relay section

I have a question sir my 2000 c230 BAS,ESP,ABS lights came on but as i was driving and my car immediately no turning signals, brake light, emergency light worked no more power to keep going. Scary when all of the sudden you have to pull to side with no emergency lights. They go off and come right back on. Reset still comes on i have already replaced the brake switch but not the wheel sensor but i just bought car like 3 months ago.
Also the shifter will lock up too
If that's happening your next step is to get a diagnostic done. 1 simple thing you could check your selfies to make sure all fuses are tightly fitted and not loose
This problem comes either from the battery and Abs I know but just BAS battery

Hello! I have a W210 E220D 1996. When I start it, the ABS and ETS lights turn on and stay on, the car wont let me go above 3000 rpms and the spedometer doesnt work. Could the brake light switch be the problem? Thank you!
honestly I don't know the correct answer but it sounds like you have a couple of problems change the brake light switch and see what happens it is such a cheap Part to buy you should change it anyway. try and solve one problem at a time

ok you have changed brake light switch and it is still not turning off the light. now it is a process of elimination next step take off all the wheel speed sensors and clean them. take off any small shards of metal.this can affect your abs system. if your brake pads or brake discs are very worn this can also cause this problem. if this does not work you will have to get a diagnostic done to Narrow down the problem. sorry predictive spell went wrong

Do what I do turn your key but leave it in the on position don't turn the car on just turn it to where all the panel lights are on. Leave it like that for 3 to 4 minutes then turn the key to the off position and then turn your key on and start your car that will reset the whole computer and fix your problem mine affected the throttle and the braking system I couldn't go past 10 miles per hour in might 1997 E420 Mercedes and I had a stroke drive like that from downtown 14 miles away from my home on the freeway I left my car like that for four months until I was able to fix it and take it to the mechanic that mechanic just fixed and cleaned out the mass air flow sensor and that didn't solve the problem because the problem still exists it a few days later that's when I turned on RUclips video try to figure out what the problem is and how to fix it simple solution no turn the key to where all the panel lights are on but don't turn the car on. Leave it like that 3 to 4 minutes and turn them to the off position and then start your car and your car is going to be fixed reset and everything. Should the check engine light go on like mine did do the same steps and it will all reset that separate issue without having to take the battery cables off.
I'm happy that it worked for you if you brought this problem to Mercedes garbage it probably would have cost you a couple of hundred pounds .don't forget to sub on share my videos

I would say it is one of your wheel speed sensor that is gone. Next time you go back on mechanic get him to do full diagnostic in the description below you can find part number for a wheel speed sensor just Google this number and you will find second-hand or new parts

No it has nothing to do with this should be just the cruise control unit

Hi..W210 E320, 2002, 104k miles, Base Sedan. I have the ABS, BAS, ESP warning Lights on. They all came on at Once after I hit a Hella Pot Hole!!!.....I tried the Brake Light Switch installation, but No Joy........something else...My Cruise Control still works, so prolly not a Wheel Sensor, (I think??)....Next step...pay to have Codes Read out, diagnose from there. Recommendations????
Try disconnecting your battery for one hour see if it resets

Why would a Sudden Jolt, ie PotHole at 35 mph, render the ABS/BAS/ESP inoperable?, or at least with all Warning Lights On???
+Roger Bensenhaver I just have a feeling that it is a wheel speed sensor. I also know that if your brake pads and or brake discs are very worn it can cause this problem. It could be a good idea to go to a breakers yard buy second hand wheel speed sensor try it on the side of the car. you hit the hole it could be worth it could save a lot of money

I agree, I think Clean and/or Replace the Sensors. Front First.
I just did Brake Pads on front, w a Left Rotor. Plus, L Front Wheel Bearing, and Front Lower Ball Joints. Both Pads and Rotors on Rear.
All work accomplished before hitting PotHole and Tripping Warning Lights.
I will try Wheel Sensors next as the "No Cost" effort. But, would my Cruise Control still be working if a Wheel Sensor was shorted/bad? Not Sure?????

Edwin Aristigueta Their are some garages who charge approx £25 to do a full fault diagnostic which should be able to identify whether you really have a problem, or not and its just a case of resetting and turning the light off with the diagnostic equipment.
