LOL! I watched it again, imagining it as an SNL skit on a week where Jewel was the host and musical guest, and a cast member played Jessica Simpson. You’re absolutely right, it really is like an SNL skit for the following reasons:
1. Jessica and Nick had a variety show in the first place.
2. Jessica’s outfit (and to a lesser extent, Jewel’s outfit)
3. Jessica’s facial expressions and oversinging.
4. Jessica and Jewel holding out the note for 24 beats at the end!
No hate meant towards Jessica. She’s got a great voice, but her performance style just doesn’t work for Jewel’s music. And no hate meant towards Jewel, either. I’ve been a fan of her since her very first album in the 1990’s.

Jessica's performance is so "affected '' She probably couldn't open her mouth the next day without extreme pain....and I remember watching this attempt at a variety show revival....dismal at best....Nick and Jessica just don't have that special something it takes to host a variety show.. .

What are you talking about? A harmony is when two separate notes occur at once. These two are singing in “unison” - the same notes at the same time - and it’s absolutely fucking awful.

Everyone is wondering how Jewel is keeping it together... and what I am sensing is she is a highly empathetic person (Jewel). I see moments where she sings a little more like Jessica, and she matches her energy. I think this is because she’s trying to connect and be kind to someone who might be a little insecure and also clearly admires her so much. Jessica is trying really hard, and instead of shaming her Jewel embraces the performance.
I think she’s just professional enough to not laugh during a performance, it’s probably not that deep.

Someone on tiktok just brought this video to my attention and I can’t believe this exists. And how I didn’t know it existed is even more mind boggling. Jessica has a beautiful voice. She should’ve just performed as herself. I think her insecurity got the best of her and she was clearly trying to imitate jewel’s style of singing.

yah, i did feel like Jessica was living her teenage dream singing Karaoke of Jewel's song during her angst years in highschool.
I think their voices complimented each other perfectly. Jessica had to try a little harder but it wasn’t her song. Bravo to these talented and very underrated ladies.

Jewels’ voice is absolutely incredible. Strong duet, I used to watch this when I was far younger- still amazing.
A clear difference between an artist and a pop creation.
While Jessica did look really weird here, if you look up her performing I Wanna Love you Forever live and her song I Belong to Me, you’ll see she’s an artist too. Her record company tried to make her into a Brittany clone instead of letting her be herself - a Christian Ballad singer. Her insecurities got the best of her.

People enjoyed pop creations because they were a breeze of fresh air , they always gave the public what they wanted and followed the trend ( especially in the 90’s pop creations were crafted so well)

yes this video is awkward as the F...BUT thats who Jessica is, and why she became the celebrity personality she was. Jewel is the closest thing to an angel on Earth, but if you listen to this with out watching, it sounds beautiful. This is an incredibly hard song to sing, especially with the phrasing and vocally Jessica Simpson handled herself next to the goddess herself.

Definitely. She's got pipes. I think she really digs Jewel and was enjoying herself. Remember this was when she was all supposed to be all dingy and reserved.. and never got to be herself. Maybe she's not naturally body rhymic and peeps are just on her for it. But she can definitely sing. And you can tell Jewel honestly enjoyed the experience. I believe a while back she said so in an interview
