Goodness I forgot about this song. It was certainly one of my favorites as a teenager and the memories that come with it are so nostalgic it can bring a tear to the eye and yet it's hard to stop listening to these songs of so many years ago. They're times and talents that won't return. 😢
Might have been a big hit by the Four Seasons if the record company didn't release it as the B-side of "Rag Doll" and released it as the A-side of another single. But that's okay, the Tremolo's did it justice.
It was written by Bob Gaudio of the Four Seasons. They put it as the B side of their #1 Smash Rag Doll. Tremeloes did a great cover of the Four Season's song. The Walker Bros. also covered another Gaudio song "The sun ain't gonna shine anymore" 😊
I didn't hear it until after 1972, after getting out of the Army, when I was listening to my classic rock n roll station. Fell in love with the song immediately and then had a hell of a time finding the name of the song and who performed it.
From their 1967 album, " Suddenly You Love Me", this is a beautiful cover of the 1964 Four Seasons song, with the same arrangement. Rick Westwood delivered the heavenly lead vocals on this version, blending seamlessly with the harmonies and instruments. This proved to be a perfect vehicle for The Tremeloe's for this Number 1 song. Great memory. Great reaction Harri.❤ Great choice Agnete, I still know all the words. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada ❤❤🇨🇦🇨🇦

This was too middle of the road for me as a teenager, but now I'm pushing 72 I really love it. Super harmonies and good guitar line. Didn't realise the Four Seasons recorded it first.
Written by Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio. The "B" side of "Rag Doll". 1964. So several years earlier. Love the Seasons version. Love the Tremeloes version. They certainly make the song their own. Great video! (Frankie's version of the " boo doo woo" break is better though). Oh my. Great story. Great reaction.
The original artist of the song "Silence Is Golden" is The 4 Seasons, featuring Frankie Valli. The song was written by Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio and was first released in 1964. Although The 4 Seasons' version was the original, the cover by The Tremeloes, released in 1967, became more famous and achieved significant chart success, reaching #1 in several countries, including the UK.
Released by the Four Seasons originally. Written by them, too. It was a single, but was designed the B-side. (The A-side was Rag Doll.) The Tremeloes thought it was good enough to be an A-side. And they were right.
Definitely a timeless beautiful song. Fantastic harmonies. Very popular back in the day. The only other group with many singers harmonizing so well was the Association.
I love the harmonies in this very catchy song! I do remember the B side of Rag Doll, and this is my first time hearing the Tremeloes. I remember a few of their other songs, like “Here Comes My Baby”. Great request, Agnete 🎉 I loved this one! Thanks, Harri, for your reaction…and for forgiving your friend 😉✌🏼
one of the 1st concerts I was fortunate enough to attend in 67, they played on stage with Gerry Lewis and the playboys, Dino, Desi, and Billy, The Cyrkle, and Gene Pitney... what a time to be a teenager

The Tremeloes were a great English soft rock beat group & part of the British Invasion in the 60's. "Silence Is Golden" was their biggest hit in 1967. Other songs are "Do You Love Me", "Here Comes My Baby", "Even The Bad Times Are Good", "(Call Me) Number One", "Me & My Life" etc.
I remember them as Brian Poole and The Tremeloes, who had a #1 hit in the UK with "Do You Love Me". But I liked them better after Poole left to pursue a solo career that never took off.
Great choice Agnete ☺️ If you ever have time look up Bob Gaudio on Wilipedia. He has an unbelievable bio. He did a recital at Carnegie Hall when he was 9 yrs old. He also produced songs for Frank Sinatra, Barry Manilow and many others. Great reaction Harri 😊😊😊

Much as I loved this version Harri, it's not a patch on the original by the Four Seasons with Frankie Valli's soaring falsetto. Check it out, it was a hit for them in 1962 in the US.
The Tremeloes' cover of this Four Seasons b-side to "Rag Doll," which topped the U.S. charts in 1964, duplicates the original Bob Gaudio/Bob Crewe arrangement note-for-note. For all intents and purposes, they could have released The Four Seasons' recording and just slapped The Tremeloes name on the label...you could've fooled everyone. It reached only #11 in the U.S. as opposed to #1 in the UK, so not everyone forgot Frankie Valli's original rendition. Fun fact, to approximate Valli's higher register, guitarist Rick Westwood sang lead instead of the Tremeloes former lead vocalist, Brian Poole, who had left the band the year before. A reminder that until the emergence of singer-songwriters influenced by Dylan and The Beatles, artists routinely covered everyone else's songs. In some instances, multiple versions of the same song would be on the charts at the same time. Thanks Agnete & Harri.
@@danielvolk237 I agree with you; however, it’s a matter of taste, and which one you grew up with, I believe. Franki Valli had the most amazing falsetto!
