    Hey it's the return of my Jeep Wrangler YJ project! I have too many broken cars that are in desperate need of attention, so this one sat for almost a year. 🥴 A friend offered to give me this 1992 Wrangler for free last year, and the only progress that I made on it was a new set of tires! I've driven it around a bit but there are still quite a few things I need work on to make this a safe and reliable driver. Today I visit Sean from Sean's Auto Care and he'll take us through everything that is wrong with my free YJ project! Come join us!

    Your mechanic obviously isn't a jeep guy.
    That radiator is copper and brass, not aluminum.
    All 2.5s had an ac bracket, wether they had ac or not.
    That "all wheel drive unit" is a transfer case. (Specifically its a 231)
    Thats not a "trailing arm", its a track bar. I wouldn't rebuild it, I'd throw row it in the trash.
    Toss the rear track bar in the scrap heap too.
    That is a pretty cool Jeep.
    Pressure wash everything really well Replace the radiator and valve cover gasket.
    Flush the brakes and coolant. Drive it.
    Keep an eye on everything and see what else pops up.

      That's it right there. Regardless of all the issues there that jeep will still run and get you around. Just fix things little by little eventually you'll have a sound little rig.

  • @ryanaupperlee2662
    @ryanaupperlee2662 2 года назад +29

    That "trailing arm" is called a track bar and or panhard bar. On the axle those plugs are where you fill them at not drain them. You cant and shouldnt fill your axles pass the fill plugs on a dana 30 and dana 35 axle.

      That’s a mechanic I wouldn’t go to ever. Doesn’t know a copper radiator from his butt, either, and thinks a YJ has an “all wheel drive unit”
      What a joke of a shop. And vid.

    Ive had two YJ’s. They always need something, but always get you where you need to go. They’re also easy and generally enjoyable to work on especially with no rust. I actually loved the four cylinder, it’s torquey and fun. Enjoy it!

    I am a JK owner. The YJ brings back fond memories. Back in '93 my dad bought a Sahara 4.0 with the manual transmission from the dealership and he daily drove that jeep for 26 years until he sold it! Only thing that needed replaced was the radiator and starter while he owned it. After he sold it, he purchased a TJ.

  • @deathtrapgarage506
    @deathtrapgarage506 2 года назад +15

    Also, just an FYI. All 4 cylinder wranglers have the bracket that looks like it could mount an AC compressor, because it was used for an AC compressor on jeeps equiped as such, but even on AC-less jeeps it was used just so that they could save a few bucks not having to design a different bracket.

  • @300DBenz
    @300DBenz 2 года назад +7

    E3 spark plugs.......ugh, ditch those immediately, it’ll run a lot better! And then flush the block with a citrus-based radiator cleaner, it’s cast iron and running 100% water will cause serious rusting internally and clog the radiator....that might be why the heater core was disconnected: it’s clogged up.

    that jeep looks in really good shape honestly. as a shop owner/mechanic I am sure Shawn is a good mechanic but needs his Terminology down a little better calling the transfer case APT O unit and calling the copper radiator and aluminum radiator does not make him look good on screen and in the Midwest as long as the vehicle didn't shake violently I don't think anyone would care about those bushings too much as long as they were still there. something note worthy yes but not anything I would price out unless asked

    You should never just look at a vehicle, and guess, for example checking front ball joints should be with large vise grips or hands on tire movement test... Another example of just looking at a vehicle 🚜🔧🛸✨ should be wether or not too much rust is underneath vehicle to salvage or not...Also you can simply just listen to the engine and completely tell when it's just done, or worn out ..🛠️✨🏆I work a 4x4 Jeep and off-road shop...

    Pretty obvious your mechanic does not know Jeeps. Although servicing fluids on a used car is a 1st thing…. And a safety inspection is prudent, it’s an old vehicle. Worn parts are expected. Priorities- Fluids, (power wash underside/engine - makes finding serious leaks easier), Stop, Go….
