Fares, I have not seen anything in recent years as advice to avoid this but recall swim coaches in my earlier years suggesting that for each breath in, HOLD IT for perhaps 3-5 seconds, and then slowly exhale in preparation before the next inhalation. Is the hold still advised, or does this undesirably build up CO2 in the lungs?
Sorry...How often to Breathe... Srsly, as an adult attempting to learn, I'm picking up a lot of helpful tips and advice from your lessons, and your information is sensible, and easy to follow, as a student following a teacher. Thanks for your videos!
In most cases, you'll want to be breathe frequently. If like to breathe to the same side, breathing every 2nd stroke works well. If you like to breathe bilaterally, every 3rd stroke works well.
Fares, great video, as always. I’m concerned about what you said regarding breathing through your nose. I have to use a nose clip because chlorine makes me congested. I also think I’ve seen some Olympic level swimmers use the nose clip. What can you say about it? Thanks!
I have been swimming for many years, and what I found for me was a saline solution immediately after the swim. I don't like a nose clip, and chlorine water would bother me as well. A good hot shower helped me also.
Nose clips are great once you get used to them. The only problem is once you do get used to them it’s hard to swim without them. Think of the exhale underwater as 51% exhale and 49% neutral. So you’re not exhaling hard all the time.
@Tomas Quindt I apologize. I should have said nasal saline spray. The chlorine water dries the nasal tissue and causes congestion. The saline spray keeps the nasal tissue moist. At least for me.
great video and drills! In the last drill, is there a difference in which side you breath? (either the one pulling or the side of the arm that's still) If so what's the difference?
Good question! You always want to breathe toward the side of the arm that is pulling. That way, you are creating an air pocket. If you breathe toward a still arm, that still arm would get in the way, it would mess up your rhythm, and you would have to turn your head even more.
I’m a complete beginner and have completed 5 lessons as of today. I’m getting good at kicking but one thing I am not able to do is to keep my legs up while being rotated like in the 3rd drill (12 kick rotation) Any advise on how to maintain position and not letting legs sink while being rotated?
When you open your mouth below water, you will not be inhaling and obviously not swallowing. Try ducking below the water at the shallow end and just open your mouth. Your body's reflexes will prevent you from swallowing or inhaling. Your more likely to swallow water when you're actually taking a breath at the surface if your mouth is not totally clear of the water at the time. Pretty sure we've all done that many's a time.
Great material! Thanks😊I have request, can you speak a little bit slower? I think that you have also followers how made be not good enough in English language 😉
@@FaresKsebati hmm i think im doing that. I take my breath, hold it for 1 stroke, exhale everything quickly right before breathing on the second stroke. Seems to work fine until the flip turns because then im holding my breath for 4 strokes(2 in 2 out) instead of 2.

Make a video for above knee amputee, struggling to balance body while kicking and taking a breath due absence of body weight oneside.
Thank you for the list of drills! they look like lots of fun and I am going to try them out😍
Let me know how it goes! Happy swimming :)
Thank you very much from France .
I have bad allergies. When water goes into my nose it causes problems. What do you recommend for it?

This is a great meditative activity for out of the water. Being able to control your breath is very important!
Great and useful.. keep going bro!
Shukrun! Happy swimming!
Thank you 👍👍
Plz post a video on water treading...
Thank you for the video! Very useful information!
Thanks for your sharing

Which sport do you advice for fast swimming ? Pilates, gym, etc
How does one count strokes? Is it:
Left 1, Right 1; L2, R2; L3 etc OR is it L1, R2, L3, R4, L5 etc?
The second one! Each arm pull would be one stroke count :)

Is the single arm freestyle supposed to be on your side the whole time or do you only rotate to your side when you breathe?
Any recomendation about a good smartwatch foro swimming? Thx
I love my Apple Watch! Garmin is great too
❤thank youuuu
This is like a magic 😩🤦

Can you add that poolside breathing clip to a Short?
I like it! I’ll do some more videos on breathing and breath control!

Perhaps keep ur head underwater and look down
It should be in line with ur shoulder when u try to breath
Question: what if you can't properly breathe through your nose due to allergies?
4:29 is it wrong if my other arm is not at my side but I just strech it forward? What is the difference
“Imagine yourself impaled…” Fares, my man… Imagine myself as a chicken? 😂😂😂

What's happening at 2:20, take the breath, rotate head back into water, mouth open. How to not swallow water doing that?

Do you exhale through your mouth in the water?
Yes! You can exhale underwater either through your mouth or your nose.

I must admit that: I didn't realise what I am doing every single day for fun to avoid boredom in the exercise, is correct.
(those spray is from my nose, although no show:)
you look like tony stark (iron man)
Your hunger is talking chicken 🎉
So you're exhaling the whole time your face is in the water?
Imagine 51% exhale, 49% neutral!
