I was in my mid to late teens during CoD 4's peak. Zero responsibility. Friends who lived in town. I could walk to a number of friend's houses in my home town where I'd find 5 or 6 other guys all up late into the night playing CoD 4 together. Miss those times.
@@mrmerlin6287 it’s the same for me with Halo 2 and 3. I was 17-21 through the peak of those games. Everyone was still at home or college with very limited responsibilities. We would hook up 2-3 Xboxes with little 15 inch RCA tvs 4-players on each one and it was awesome.
The thing you need to remember about Map Packs when they first started launching is that they didn't really separate players. I played plenty of Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 with friends and from what I remember it would just disable the map pack from search as long as I was playing with that friend.
In CoD4 specifically sure, but in later titles they had map pack specific playlists. And regardless, it was still a way that divided who could play what (one of the games idr if it was CoD4 or another would let you match into the lobby but then kick you out if you didn’t have the content) which publishers seem completely unwilling to do today
You’re right. It started after 2010 when we saw the shift and Map Packs started to divide the community. Hot take, but I kind of want Map Packs to come back but be done the right way. Don't divide the community, and everyone can play together, whether you have it or not. Holds developers, responsible for releasing quality content that is worth the players dollar. Instead of now when we get free updates, we don’t know if these are maps that were held back from launch, or if they are completely new. I mean, look at Halo Infinite right now. all of their new maps are community made, and the game modes aren’t even baked in game mode. They are modes that are put together by mostly community members, and the developers barely have a hand in it.
Man i still remember my mom taking me to gamestop to get cod4 in middle school, still is my favorite cod, loved playing overgrown and using the weapons nobody picked (skorpion, stg44) but im right there with ya, have a kid too and bills and could barely get 30 min without having to do something lol
I lost track of time playing some IW4x before Activision forced them to shitcan it initially, and I can tell you, old COD and MW is a blast to this day.
I was 8 when cod 4 came out but it’s always been my favourite cod for gameplay. I haven’t really touched cod since blops 1 because I can’t stand the change in gameplay afterwards in the series Now I just stick to cod 4 and halo 3. Miss the old montages from Zzirgrizz and black out. This game and halo 3 were my childhood
CoD 4 and CoD MW2 map servers up on HorizonMW. Bugfixes, anticheat, and qol tweaks to the greatest shooter ever made. H2M died so HorizonMW could live.

I'm more of a MW2 type of guy. That was my peak season of Cod.
