I did however see Pantera 9 times live. Dime is my Favorite guitarist Biased favorite of course. Thanks again for the content enjoying the channel.
This one may be a bit obscure. Oz Fox of Stryper is a killer shredder but held back because of his genre. Great listen. I'm not familiar with many guitarists but the ones I do know, again, are probably too mild for your list. The three are: Adrian Vandenberg, Vivian Campbell and Michael Schenker. You have some terrific categories. I am a drummer and I'm just wondering if you have done a top 10 metal/rock drummer list?
Hallo Bryce Amazing choice and great Video ! My top ten are: 10. Brad Gillis 09. Craig Goldy 08. John Sykes 07. Paul Gilbert 06. Randy Rhoads 05.Kirk Hammet 04. Yngwie Malmsteen 03. Michael Schenker 02. Akira Takasaki 01. George Lynch
@@heikoflottmann8895 I have this unending adoration for Live to rock - rock to live try to guess why😉😂 I also like Dream Warriors, Breaking the chains, Lightnin’ strikes again, Burning like a flame, Stop fighting love, Stick to your guns, Turn on the Action & it’s not love. Do you also like Ratt? Because a look at their classic lineup (particularly their bassist) gives away why the song I have as my fave is my fave😉
Yes he did, and yet he is no better than fifth in Germany, because despite how good he is, the Scorpions have four better than him, including the best one, Michael Schenker.
Brilliant list but I think you could've also put some Metalcore guitarists in honourable mentions. Coming out of the 90s, it was Metalcore that basically brought solos back into the mainstream. Synister Gates, Jacky Vincent, Montey Money, Jason Richardson, Alexi Lahio(although not metalcore, came out during the same era).
1. Dimebag Darrell 2. Gary Holt 3. Tony Iommi 4. Zakk Wylde 5. Dave Mustaine 6. Jeff Hanneman 7. Randy Rhoads 8. Jason Mendonça 9. Ulf Cederlund 10. John Gallagher
@@brycetalksmetal Kind of truth... but Eddie VH has insipred almost all of those you mentioned. Eddie is more "metal" than Yngwie IMO... at least he is more louder on stage than Yngwie (I've heard that with my own ears lol)
Because he is more considered hard rock than metal. Van Halen might've been considered metal only from 78- 81. It is a headache to try to classify every single artist
If you guys are after someone who is metal in his style and was (probably) heavily influenced by EVH, then look no further than Akira Takasasi of Loudness, that guy is freakin’ great IMO at least...
My top 10 10 Steve Vai 9 Vernon Reid 8 Graham Oliver 7 Jake e Lee 6 Carlos Cavazo 5 Randy Ehodes 4 Dimebag Darrell 3 Ritchie Sambora 2 CC Deville 1 Tony Iommi
I like this list akira is strongly underated. Same with criss oliva. My top 1. Tim henson 2. jb brubaker august burns red. 3. Jake e lee 4. John petrucci 5. Eddie van halen 6. Luke hoskins from protest the hero 7. Chet atkins 8. Paul gilbert 9. Stevie ray vaughn 10. Angel valvaldi- very underated 7 string shredder. Jb brubaker might be the most underated metal guitarist of all time his rhythm and leads are so complex and tough to nail. I think he’s discredited only cause hes a metalcore guitarist and alot of them sound the same but august burns red songs are very difficult to play. But just my opinion and agreed on akira takasaki from loudness. Hes super underated. Loudness is badass he can shred
Watching Alek Scholnick get unmentioned in these comments is criminal. BEST Metal guitarist, right up there with Marty for technique, tone and phrasing.
With all these lists, I have to come up with one. So…… 1. Michael Schenker 2. Rudolf Schenker 3. Jimmy Page 4. Criss Oliva 5. Uli Jon Roth 6. Marty Friedman 7. Jim Matheos 8. Adrian Smith 9. Akira Takasaki 10. Alex Scolnick Honorable mention Dave Murray, Dave Mustaine, Matthias Jabs, Rik Emmett, Dan Spitz, Wolf Hoffmann, Kurdt Vanderhoof, Billy Duffy, CC Deville, Joey Allen, Ty Tabor, Oz Fox, Shoyo Aida, Kim Thayll, Alex Lifeson.
Fuckin killer dude. I love your list excepting one it two picks. I love how you include some less known (Olivia) but no less amazing artists and even unknown (the fourth pick) at least to me. The only point I'd disagree with you on is Yngwie. Although he is a phenomenal guitarist , his technical mastery of the instrument is probably unmatched , he doesn't have the attributes the rest of these guys do. I mean the others have albums of anthemic riffs under there belts. Most were an integral part of iconic metal bands. They wrote or helped write some of metals most important songs. They are , for the most part , heavy metal heroes. Even though Yngwie is a guitar legend and a god of technical know how I highly doubt he'd be included in most fans picks for greatest metal guitarists. That aside , nice job.
Dude if anyone is reading this and hasn't listened to the solo by Jeff Waters in Ultraparanoia you are missing out big time. That man will always be my favorite guitarist of all time and that song has one of my favorite best solos of all time. Jeff Waters has some of the most unique ear candy catchy solos I've ever heard man.

You think about it, it’s amazing how these guys make the guitar come alive. I tinker on the guitar. These guys are sooooooo outrageously good. I hear Malmsteen has his chops back on his new record.
All very good. Maybe you do not agree but my favourites are Michael Schenker, Matthias Jabs and Wolf Hofmann. They are very, very different to players from other parts of the world. Their Solos are songs in the songs. Ace Frehley does the same thing american style. John Norum plays extremely good live. When it comes to shredders I think the best instrumental album of all time is Tony Mac Alpine- Edge of insanity.

Jeff Waters is Underated happy you had him on here George Lynch is my fave And of course Iommi a historic great. Yngwie being number 2 is interesting And I can't argue Marty, he's a guitar god, especially Cacophony and His time with Megadeth A great list
Dave is my favorite combo guitar player singer, rhythm, lead etc....2nd Chuck from Death. Pure solo guys is Alex Skolnick of Testament. He's just got that good stuff man. Tasty licks, fast shred, jazz, blues you name it. Also, Kiko is starting to become better than Marty in my eyes. He's got some of the best solos ever on their new record.
Ommissions: Michael Schenker. Not only is Schenker a major influence for most of your top ten, half the metal guys in the world play a Flying V because of him (Dave Mustaine readily admits that Michael Schenker is why he plays a Flying V. You also should have added the rest of the Scorpions guitarists, but you seem to be looking for a more thrash approach. But, Rudolf Schenker and Uli Jon Roth should be in any top ten and Matthias Jabs should be close.

You could put Hendrix on top of any of these lists, because he is the greatest guitarist who ever lived, but what Hendrix played wasn’t metal, it wasn’t even rock.
Excellent list Agreed on all picks perfect number one pick !!!
I won't say he's the best, but my favorite is Michael Romeo - Symphony X
My top 10
10) Glenn Tipton
9) Rusty Cooley
8) Michael Ammot
7) Chris Broderick
6) Andy LaRoque
5) Jeff Loomis
4) Michael Romeo
3) Alexi Laiho

1) Criss Oliva

Man Jeff's solos on Never, Neverland alone leave me speechless but only Marty can literally bring tears to my eyes
Better than most people's top 10 ! Good stuff ! Dave and Marty are definitely two of the greatest- like how you mentioned Chuck and Jakey lee no doubt ! What you think about Slayers guitarist's? Also like the George lynch credit !!! Randy Rhoads ? Zakk Wylde ? And Iron Maidens Axe Men are so underrated!
My favorite Heavy Metal guitarists are:
1) Tony Iommi
2) Ritchie Blackmore
3) Darrell Lance Abbott
4) Yngwie Johan Malmsteen
5) Michael Schenker
6) Randy Rhoads

Dokken in this video, he also has Lynch Mob
Mad respect for this list dude. Exactly how I would do it. Maybe Mustaine first. lol Love me some Yngwie as well.
Very,Very good list,i like all guitarist you have mentioned and i totally agree!!But not forget David Pritchard,Hermann Frank,Christopher and Michael Amott,Ralph Santolla,Juan Garcia,Gary Holt and Rick Hunolt,James Byrd,Tim Calvert,Glenn Drover,Chris Broderick,Joey Tafolla,Josh Christian,She-Ja,Michael Harris,Gary Moore,Frank Aresti and Victor Arduini,Tony McAlpine,James Murphy,etc etc....STAY METAL!!!!!!:-)))
I have a lightning guitar tattoo as well with CFH behind the stock. I was supposed to be in Columbus that night I live in Dayton Ohio. I was unable to make it due to being sick.
My top 5:
Dave Mustaine
Kirk Hammett
Chuck Schuldiner
Alex Lifeson
Dimebag Darrell
Wait...
Kirk Hammet above dave?? I will call the Police
@@_jony711 uh no particular order sorry. And actually if it were, Dave would be No 1
@@yoiamhere4737 thanks for the explenation. Dave is a beast.

04. Yngwie Malmsteen
03. Michael Schenker

4. Just got lucky
3. Kiss of death
2.Lost behind a Wall
1. Tooth and nail
@@heikoflottmann8895
Thanks.
Alexi laiho?
@@heikoflottmann8895 I have this unending adoration for Live to rock - rock to live try to guess why😉😂
I also like Dream Warriors, Breaking the chains, Lightnin’ strikes again, Burning like a flame, Stop fighting love, Stick to your guns, Turn on the Action & it’s not love.
Do you also like Ratt? Because a look at their classic lineup (particularly their bassist) gives away why the song I have as my fave is my fave😉
Wolf Hoffman from Accept deserved at least honorable mention.
Make your own list
@@brycetalksmetal
I Love You 😘
Yes he did, and yet he is no better than fifth in Germany, because despite how good he is, the Scorpions have four better than him, including the best one, Michael Schenker.
My top 5 Favourite guitarists
1. Dave Murray
2. Alexi Laiho
3. Kerry King
4. Dave Mustaine
5. Adrian Smith
1. Dimebag Darrell
2. Gary Holt
3. Tony Iommi
4. Zakk Wylde
5. Dave Mustaine
6. Jeff Hanneman
7. Randy Rhoads
8. Jason Mendonça
9. Ulf Cederlund
10. John Gallagher
What song is the one that Jeff Waters playing?
The Trend from Annihilator’s 2010 self-titled album
Great list. I just sort of am confused how Eddie Van Halen didn't even get a mention
Wasn’t considering him. Will be on a hard rock list if I do one.
Eddie is hard rock. No metal in his playing
If you guys are after someone who is metal in his style and was (probably) heavily influenced by EVH, then look no further than Akira Takasasi of Loudness, that guy is freakin’ great IMO at least...
Great lists you should do your favorite metal bassists maybe
You should do genre specific favorites list

What was the song that played for number nine-Akira takasaki?
You Shook Me
Great choices Bryce!!!!!👍👍
Watching Alek Scholnick get unmentioned in these comments is criminal. BEST Metal guitarist, right up there with Marty for technique, tone and phrasing.
By the way you didn't give an honourable mention to Steve Terreberry and Davie504.
Lol
With all these lists, I have to come up with one. So……
1. Michael Schenker
2. Rudolf Schenker
3. Jimmy Page
4. Criss Oliva
5. Uli Jon Roth
6. Marty Friedman
7. Jim Matheos
8. Adrian Smith
9. Akira Takasaki
10. Alex Scolnick

7. Zakk Wylde
8. Steve Lynch
9. Dave Murray
10. Hetfield
Thanks for this.
My three favourites are Tony Iommi, Trey Azagthoth and Denis "Piggy" D'amour.
Curious where you would place the guitarists in Lovebites, Nemophila, Band- Maid? Seems Jmetal is producing truly incredible skillz man.
I'd like to add Ronni Le Tekro from TnT fame. Phenomenal player
No Jeff Loomis?
Good lists I have a few more burners with great feel and tone. Michael Schenker Gary Moore Michael Harris.
I'm surprised you didn't mention Jeff Loomis.
In no particular order (her de her her!):
Ritchie Blackmore
John Sykes
Randy Rhoads
Judas Priests' KK and Glenn
Megadeths' Dave and Marty
Chris Degarmo of Queensryche
John Petrucci of Dream Theater
Jimmy Page!
1. Marty Friedman (always been #1, and always will be)

Kinda bummed you did not put Andy Larocque Of King Diamond but seeing all 10 I can see why it become pretty challenging haha great list \m/
He’s great and was close... gave an honorable mention... thanks 👍🏻
@@brycetalksmetal Always ready to see your great videos haha cheers \m/
I Really like Lizzy Borden guitar work.
You think about it, it’s amazing how these guys make the guitar come alive.
I tinker on the guitar. These guys are sooooooo outrageously good.
I hear Malmsteen has his chops back on his new record.
Anyone who plays for King Diamond has got to be good !
Off topic but what did Jeff young do to get kicked out of Megadeth
I’ve heard it was bc Mustaine thought Young was fooling around with his girlfriend... I’m not exactly sure though
Ah makes sense
Heard you say Painkiller is your second favorite album, great one! Have you done a list of overall favorite albums?

Not tommy Veterreli ? From coroner
Top 10 drummers?
Jeff Waters is Underated happy you had him on here
George Lynch is my fave
And of course Iommi a historic great.
Yngwie being number 2 is interesting
And I can't argue Marty, he's a guitar god, especially Cacophony and His time with Megadeth
A great list
Thanks!
Wow. Was fully expecting at least a mention of Michael Romeo.
IMO I would have had Criss Olivia a lot higher…glad you included him though, he should be more widely known 👍🤘
Jeff Loomis, Keith Merrow, Matt Zuleger, Paul Wardingham
Well, there's a list from Finland (not in order & including hard rock/metal/prog/rock-blues etc. guitarists too) Eddie Van Halen/Ritchie Blackmore/Michael Schenker/Jeff Beck/Frank Marino/Uli Jon Roth/Albert Järvinen (great finnish blues-rock legend)/Jukka Tolonen (another incredible finnish prog-jazz guitarist)/Alexi Laiho/Roope Latvala/Jimmy Page/Jimi Hendrix/Akira Takasaki/Ian Crichton/Gary Moore/Bernie Tormé/David Gilmour/Steve Hackett/James Hetfield/Tony Iommi/Jake E.Lee/Malcolm Young/Rick Parfitt/Andy Latimer... Cheers!

If you’re going to pick a Thin Lizzy guitarist pick their best one (The lone American) Scott Gorham.
oh boy this is actualy fucking hard to rank XD
I will give it a go but i most say it's almost impossible. Like to say that i am gonna do a top 15 :p
15) Akira Takasaki
14) George Lynch
13) K.K Downing
12) Vivian Campbell (on the first 3 Dio albums, the rest of his work i don't like that much)
11 Jake E Lee
10) Richie Kotzen(even if you don't like Poison, just check out his stuff on 7 days live, it's amazing)
9) Dave Mustaine
8) Tracy G (my favorite Dio guitar player, i love his style and tone. i actualy like every Dio guitarist but Tracy G is freaking heavy)
7) Andreas Kisser(on every Sepultura album from 2011 onward he proofs HE is the real reason Sepultura is still out there today)
6) Randy Rhoads
5) Marty Friedman
4) Yngwie Malmsteen
3) Glenn Tipton
2) Dimebag Darrell
1) Tony Iommi
Buckethead, Van Halen, Ritchie Blackmore, Steve Morse and Slash are also among my favorite guitar players but i suppose they are not real "metal". Metal guitarists like Kirk Hamett and Reb Beach are also great but not uniqua enough in my opinion
1)Chuck Schulinder
2)Dave Mustaine
3)Dimebag Darrell
4)Tony Iommi
5)Nergal
