Although I'm retired now I learned a long time ago I was in the Excavating business since I was 18 years old. I am retired now but the first thing I learned if you're going to buy a new car or a new pickup going to a business do anything that requires insurance check the insurance first because a lot of times if you end up buying say it dump truck. You'll find out that you can't afford the insurance for it so please start out on the right foot no matter what you purchase and find out what it's going to cost for insurance and then go from there. Thanks Justin I love watching your videos I love that you've got an old school attitude about you reminds me of myself back a couple decades ago LOL
An issue I ran into when buying my single axle international dump for my tree company was that almost every auto insurer wanted at least 6 years driving experience to write the policy, I ended up with progressive. I think they suck.
It sounds like the best idea is to find a guy who is retiring. The company would already have an established safety record. Before buying make sure that he hadn’t had any bad claims, few tickets, and also good credit.
Ohio Mutual is one of the better truck insurers in Ohio. You are right Progressive is very expensive. What really gets me upset is when a uninsured driver runs into your truck and my insurance goes up because my insurance has to pay the claim. I am sure your agent checked Cincinnati insurance, they will write trucking companies with multiple trucks but will not write a single truck operator. I had them for 17 years and no problems. I had insurance agent give me a very good quote from another company is the only reason I left Cincinnati and now they won't write single truck operators any more. The reason I was trying to go back to Cincinnati is the new company the agent put me with quit writing dump truck insurance. Since Cincinnati was no longer an option I was forced to go to Progressive. Progressive I believe will write just about anybody but you pay out the nose for it. Progressive was the only company that would write me when I was starting out so I already knew about the high rates. You are correct in saying insurance can help make or break you in this business.
Yeah insurance is ridiculous, BamBam680 is my brother and we're paying 4900 per month for 2 tri-axle dumps, no claims ever since 2016, excellent driving records, shit is crazy, we're paying almost 25% of our revenue for insurance. And don't let it rain or the fucking truck goes down, then we are working just to survive for another month, insurance is extortion for trucking businesses, it needs to be regulated seriously. Good topic and Keep bringing the heat Justin!!
What am say wrong to the insurance company because they want me to pay $34,000 a year and almost $3500.00 a month They kept asking me if I was to sell the truck today. How much would it sell for ? I say $150,000 is this driving my rate high...
How many years did you work for another company driving a dump truck for someone else before you went out on your own? And when you did go out on your own, why? What would you do different if you could go back.? How did you get your first work on your own?
i would suggest that you find a insurance company that would cover you before you buy the truck, and get a price and if you need collision insurance -ouch!
I messed up got the truck first then looked for insurance… I’m getting quoted at 35k/year 9k deposit 2600/month. I have no idea where to look for other quotes. Any help or suggestions? Im thinking maybe find a driver for it instead.
This is why you need a independent producer to shop you around every year. I'm in Texas and an Independent insurance broker let me know if you want help I have allot of commercial auto clients and specialize in auto.
Can you explain what aggregate insurance is? I'm kind of retarded. Company I want to work for requires 1 million general liability. 2 million in aggregate and 1 million for excessive/umbrella. Loved the video

Insurance is out of fucking control, it will make you or BREAK you. It's like they don't want ya to work.. It put me out of business a decade ago... so be it.... Insurance and snap on both ream your ass....
