Sadly he does.. I've had steps for 3 years on a bike, now I've passed to bosch cx gen4 the difference is huge, you don't need unless you don't try something better.
Love my E8000 on my Ghost. Its so customisable with the correct app, which is important when you compare factory setting with other makes. Yeah OK 70NM isn't as high as other models and you can't go further than 300%, but do you need more? The tyre can only grip so much, right?. Rad Steve 👍💪
Hi can you provide any further information on the power curve ie whats the max support in each mode if set at high! thanks Chris ps love the vids more please
One test I would love to see is a comparison between the Brose/700wh range vs the EP8 630wh. Shimano says the new EP8 is more efficient than the old motor. Right now it seems like the Brose/700 combo is king for steep climbs but wondering it the EP8/630 can challenge the Brose/700 for range. I have a deposit down on a Santa Cruz Bullit so that's why I am interested.
Enjoyed that. Though there's all sorts of other variables at play, understanding how different manufacturers stack up against each other is great useful content. I'd also be interested in range tests, 10+ mile loop, how much battery consumed. As said elsewhere, unless you're light then range is still the main issue. Boost is the sole preserve of bonked legs, every ride is a balance of eco and trail to balance out fun/progress/range. I'd love more torque but that would further reduce my range, and that's not an option!! 👍
So are any of these motors available for the consumer to buy after-market? i.e. replace old Bosch with new one or old shimano e8000 with new ep8? Or, are there other brands that sell motors and controllers etc.?
The best motor is working motor. I've been using e8k for 2.5 years without issues. Power? It is assistance motor for my legs not a scooter. More Nm means more energy used from battery and small range is the weakest point of e- bikes. In result all risers use eco or trail mode the tes Nm delivers rhe kegs to save battery. Boost is used occasionally. I think the future is not powerfull motors but lighter bikes as new Orbea. The only problem is the price mainly for people who must work two years to buy such bike and not eat...
The new app of the EP8 is for me a bigger deal then the Torque. Being able to have full torque but less multiplicator is a good way to have a better ramping of power while still using maximum power. Also, Norco will soon unveil a 900wh battery in a brand new Range VLT 29, which will allow to be on boost almost all day.
Any chance you guys will test some bikes with the Bafang G510 motor? This motor is used by Frey bikes and has specs that beat all the major brands like Shimano, Yamaha, bosch and others. How come there is nothing on EMBN about this motor?
I asked this a number of times and never got a response. I fancy having one myself but until I can see a direct comparison from a none biased rider I'm not happy shelling out £3 to try one out lol. I've read reports that the general feel is not very smooth or as refined as a bosch etc.
@@kevinshort3943 I can understand the legality part I suppose. Dimensionally it's pretty much the same size as the e8000 but it is twice the weight. Which is expected since it puts out more than double the power of the E8000 motor.
@@FlyingFun. I'll let you know when mine comes in. I ordered a bike with the G510 motor and I have ridden the TREK Rail 9.8 with the Bosch motor. I'll let you know how they compare.
@@abarrick09 looking forward to it. I'll sub to your channel ready for if you make a video on it. I'm converting my old mountain bikes with rear hub kits and even those are great fun and 1000w gets up pretty steep hills with some pedaling..
I live in New Zealand and want to by my first e mtb (even though there are practically no bikes for sale at the moment). I have had heaps of bad luck smashing rear mech's and really don't wont to spend all that money on an e mtb with one. Why aren't bike companies making internal gearboxes for their e bikes? Surely weight isn't a factor when you have a motor?
Curious? Does everyone just ride their ebikes for one minute and 15 seconds? I must be doing something wrong. I tend to ride for four or five hours with lots of climbing and descents. Not sure any of these number challenges are relevant. 🤔
Steve your a beast on these hill climbs.. now I am searching for crazy hills to climb thanks to you
Love this as I was thinking of swapping my levo for a canyon
4:00 the curve!! I would live to see this from bosch g4 and yamaha pwx2!!!!
Interesting but I have never felt that my E8000 needs more torque in Boost and it’s plenty fast enough up hills for me.
The E8000 is a great motor! The next episode will feature the new Shimano EP8

@@nicolapellegrino1072 I’m not very heavy (66 kg); 70 Nm is just fine for me.
@@adrianw2506 Eheheheh I'm 85 😬

Please!! Do you have sich curves from.other bike motors? Yamaha, bosch ?
I would LOVE to see that!

Tyres...big subject but yes for sure

Steve's got the short straw again - up you go Steve 😂
He loves it really! 🤣
Good vidéo.
But i prefer bosch performance Line cx
I'm related to Jonesy. I huff and puff when riding an eMTB too. My Croatian friend says me and my Irish workmate are ' weak English '. Lol

I have over 4770 km on my e8000. Mostly road miles but zero issues. Zero. And the display is pretty awesome. 😍

I don't understand: 20 or 28 psi?
Confused, why are you testing the E8000 which is being superseded by the EP8.?
Well.... put a 50kg. rider on a Flyon up that climb and change the name - rider weight makes more of a difference than motor brand ;-)
It does Hasse for sure but we have same rider on all motors

I doubt it, as it's illegal to ride anywhere apart from private land.

Weight and cost for an internal gear box, the stealth does have a gearbox
Still Bosch CX best motor atm

Sound very whiney to me compared to a Bosch!
great motor, these motors are very tuneable turning e8000 motor powered bikes into beasts
They are a bit whiney but reliable.
43rd thumbs up!
