    What changes would you like to make to your motor if you could?

    • @djm8027

      Adjustable run on with turbo Levo, I would also like the assist level switch to be a throttle twist grip for quick changes and a push button where the original assist button is to turn the over run off and on or adjust the time.

      I rode both on a demo day (Heckler and Bullit) and much preferred the ep8. It was noticeably less powerful in boost, but better in trail, with much better battery life. The extra power of boost really seemed to make battery life suffer.

    I watched this video and expected you to promote the main value of the new Over Run feature of the EP801 to be the avoidance of peddle strike when climbing over rock ledges, root and stairs for the urban mountain biker.
    As I see it, the big advantage is that you get those few seconds of extra push to get you over the edge while you stop pedaling to maximize clearance. Its an extra element for the technical climb, without Over Run the rider has to use momentum and timing. With over run you can add the extra push but still needs momentum and timing.
    All good.

    A local bike shop in Swansea just became a Trek dealership. When I asked if they service / repair Trek ebike motors I was told I would have to send the motor off to a specialist. Tredz in Swansea - I was told last week by a Bosche owner who wanted his motor serviced - told this chap that they have a 6 month waiting list for Bosche motor servicing. If I buy a Shimano ebike then I have to somehow get my bike from Swansea to Monmouth if I want this upgrade... which is a bit of a problem for someone who rides a bike as a means of not using a car. How many ebikes are sold online these days? I would be curious to know the figure. I suspect it is at least half of them, if not considerably more. The reality is that plenty of ebike owners do not have access to places where they can get their motors serviced or repaired. Imagine buying a car and then finding that there were only a handful of mechanics who could service them. /rant

    My ep8 motor gives me plenty of power for rocky aggresive climbs in Lakes . My legs / arms / core / skill gives up before the bike does. More power means shorter range and less natural ride feel, more wear on the drive train, more wear on the trails. R&d would be better spent on the battery

    @Nomads_Rowing 6 месяцев назад +1

    Don’t have a Shimano motor but from what I’ve seen even EMBN, is the achilles heel of the brand when it comes to motor issues and repairs. As your excellent video a few months ago pointed out most current major brands can be repaired in the workshop by the specialists but not Shimano. So sadly, I will never consider one until they address these fundamental issues because after your warranty expires, do you really want the worry of a very costly replacement instead of a rebuild/repair?? 😵‍💫

    The biggest market is the existing motors such as the EP8. EP801 has nowhere near the market share of the EP8. Shimano should of made 2 updates, 1for EP8 and 1 for EP801. But the update only brings the motor in line with what the Bosch motor already has. So Shimano playing catch up not exceeding the Bosch motor until they start winning the hill climb tests where ATM the come last.

    I think most shimano owners are hesitant to do any updates, as they lose ability to have a bike that doesn't throw an anchor off the bike once they hit an arbitrary limit, (that most of us can ride above fully natty), so while I agree updates are important, until we start seeing exploits targeting our ebike ecu's probably wont change much.

    I don't have an eMTB but I've demoed a few and follow the tech fairly closely but the description of the use of over-run sounded odd to me. Steve positioned it as a feature that will help you if you are tired. Really? I mean over-run is going to give you what, a second or two of continued boost once you stop pedaling? THAT's gonna let you recover from a long climb?
    I thought over-run was to help you boost over a section where you can't turn (or risk turning) the pedals. Like a step up where you might have a pedal strike if you had to pedal over it. Now you can pedal hard up to it, stop pedaling, and let the over-run carry you over the step with your pedals level, and resume pedaling when you get past.

    • @embn
      @embn  6 месяцев назад

    Fail if it doesn't include older motors. I guess they're hoping people jailbreak their bikes then they can refuse warranty/goodwill when (not if) the motors go...
    Why isn't embn angry about this?

    OMG. Shimano have released a firmware update. Time for another infomercial...
    Meanwhile, my Photon motor receives firmware updates regularly, and I have always been able to set almost every parameter by a bluetooth connected app. No need to actually go to a dealer WTF.

    They have lost me as a customer in regards to emtb motors. There lack of support for older motors. No interchangeability between motors .miles behind the 8ball compared to other motors.

      It would appear they have made all these changes within the existing 85Nm/25kph limits, judging from the laptop screen in the shop.

    Sounds like everyone with an EP801 was sold a beta product lol

      .... everyone with an emtb is a beta version. Very little life in the technology on emtb's. Manufacturers are constantly bringing out completely new systems with older systems left without development or updates.
