Derek this is an extraordinary act of generosity and care for the IFS community. I am impressed by your proficiency and inspired by your vision to help. Thank you so much. M
Dear Derek & Susan, Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful work which is so inspiring. Thank you Derek for sharing your gift of holding an incredible space safety, compassion & authentic witnessing, Thank you Susan for the gift of sharing your amazing courageous & beautiful spirit which deeply inspires me in my personal & professional work. Thank both of you again for your gift.
Wonderful Learnings so far 1.Tune in and see what's here 2. Welcome all the parts 3. Ask the client for permission "May I be a parts detector for you?" 4. Acknowledge the parts and their function and illude to other parts eg. part that says "trust the process"= a part that seeks help and is concerned about trusting 5. Look out for 'A little concern'. no such thing. Concern + Qualifier 6. Offer safety reminders about confidentiality and consent - it's ok to stop at any time. Reiterate intention. 7. Move towards teary parts - vulnerable parts, particularly 8. "Does this part know you are there" Checking the connection 9. Differentiate parts - check if this is the same part as before or a unique part 10. Come into the present! "Invite these parts to this moment, between you and I on this date" 11.Check in regularly - show thoroughness that the parts all feel fully met or need more 12. Protective parts determine the safety of the work - always check with them if it's ok to proceed. Keep checking if there are other protective parts at play 13. Offer options for directions - do not overly direct 14. Worry/Concern/reassurance = potential protective part. - ask them to pull back if possible 15. Check ages of the parts and how old they think you are, regularly 16. Young protectors frozen in time believe it's important to "never say anything bad!" 17. Relate just you (self now) and the part, as much as possible - give them space to adust to this relationship 18. 17:00 mins
When she said she felt teary, I teared up myself. Seeing and learning about this therapy is so enlightening. Seeing her part feel teary over feeling safe and cared for, reminded me how rarely I felt like that in my life, and how good it feels when you do feel like that. Seeing this in her, allowed me to feel compassion towards myself.
Absolutely Fantastic! I hope you plan to continue to share many more IFS sessions. Watching you do the actual work is The Best teaching tool for my system….and it is extremely healing vicariously. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for sharing your parts and this whole process! I’ve done this now for 4 years now and my heart is smiling finding that others find comfort and healing in this too
Fantastic!! Thank you so much, Susan and Derek. New to working with an IFS therapist, I'm reading Susan's book "Somatic Internal Family Systems Therapy," and I found Derek yesterday on the Somatic Movement Summit. This video is one of the best examples of unburdening an exile that I have come across. Brave and well done.
I like how straightforward you are when talking to parts. I've also learned a lot about identifying "not so obvious" parts like the quantitative part. Thank you so much!
Thank you Derek and Susan for sharing your session with us. I really enjoy and appreciate the sessions that you provide for us. This model is very fascinating. I am currently a MFT student. If you ever need a demo for another session, I would love to volunteer.

So healing to see this in action, Ty! Vulnerability with trusted people is very powerful

Really really appreciate being able to see this in the contextual flow. And the Q+A at the end was key
