Jonny didn't quit Emarosa for Dance Gavin Dance. He was in both bands at the same time, but since he was spending more time with Dance Gavin Dance, while they wanted to tour, he was eventually kicked out of both bands in 2011.
I believe "Once we got back from 'Scream Like You Mean It' tour, the moment I stepped out of the van, they never spoke to me again. I was just out. They said they wanted to tour one more tour with Jonny playing DBM songs, then they were gonna break up. I guess that wasnt the case. But I love them all & wish them well." - Kurt Travis (2010 interview with Dead Press)
I only ever listened to the JC era of Emarosa, because that era was fronted by the best singer during this era of music. Relativity was the more fun album, but the self-titled was great though more predictable. I will always love JC's screams at the end of 'I Still Feel Her pt 4'.
I'm not sure if this was the case for everyone, but in the small post hardcore/hardcore music scene in WV, 131 was one of the most divisive albums of the time. It really alienated a lot of fans while gaining new fans that the old fans kind of viewed as posers. Many of us saw this as the beginning of the end for the Emarosa we loved.
Thank you for reviewing this bands first album, really got high hopes to this band similar to Of Machines, Broadway Kingdom album, SWS and Us from outside, first album last
Roberts left during recording of this is your way out because of production issues. Most are his songs and why the sound is completely different. Rise owned the rights and he did not get any credit. Some of his vocal tracks are on the ep. Corsets changed their name when they recorded. Mike Bryant left to play for Gwen Stacy. Roberts has a new band now.
about time someone actually got it right. also Joey Sturgis refused to record me, because I sucked at the time and basically requested that the band get rid of me.
Your timeline is actually really off. Jonny had just been thrown out/quit DGD when he joined Emarosa. It wasn’t until Downtown Battle Mountain II was getting recorded that Jonny had to split duties. When Jonny joined Emarosa Kurt Travis had already replaced Jonny as the singer for the Dancing Gavins. And i disagree that Relativity sounds completely different from This Is Your Way Out. There’s a clear progression from TIYWO to Relativity. If they jumped straight from TIYWO to self titled it would have come out of nowhere. The reason why i think Relativity is a logical progression is because you can actually scream along to large parts of the album. Also, i think you’re putting personal bias in favor of 131 over Versus because of when you became a fan. I LOVE Versus, it’s my favorite of the Bradley albums and i believe it’s more complete than 131, i think 131 is good but not as good as Versus. Specifically Helpless is a great song. I also believe you’re putting too much emphasis on Bradley in several ways, not least of which being the way you perceive his importance to your personal relationship with the band. I’ve never been a huge Bradley fan, because i saw Emarosa before Bradley joined and Jonny is FAR better live. Bradley doesn’t sound the same live at all, he’s far too concerned with climbing the stage and doing stupid shit. Emarosa has been my favorite band since This Is Your Way Out, and i kind of always had a problem with Bradley for being too arrogant and egocentric to play any of their older material live. But the fact is the Emarosa IS ER White’s band. He’s always done most of the songwriting, both musically and lyrically, with Bradley contributing more lyrically than previous singers but still not being the only lyric writer. ER wrote the vast majority of Jonny’s lyrics, with Jonny coming up with a fair amount of the melodies and some select lyrics here and there. I met Emarosa first with Jonny, then i met Bradley at Warped tour when the rest of the band went back to the bus and i thought he was a nice enough so that got me to move past his refusal to play older songs, and then i met them on the 131 tour when everyone went to meet Bradley i hung out by the stage and waited for the rest of the band to get their equipment and when they did i got to talk to ER and Jordan for an extended period of time, because ER is like my hero in music (i’m a musician myself and Emarosa, as i said, was my favorite band from This Is Your Way Out all the way through Versus) and he’s such a down to earth guy. But truly don’t let Bradley taint your love of the music that the band has made. It’s not as bad as LostProphets singer and i still enjoy their music. All in all this is a pretty good video though. You should do the Tilian Pierson shuffle sometime; Tilian quit Tides of Man to join Saosin, Saosin gets Anthony Green back and doesn’t end up hiring Tilian Tilian fills in for Emarosa, hoping to join them Emarosa hires Bradley instead of Tilian Tilian lucks out and lands in DGD.
@@sawyerrohrer2315 I think they definitely qualify as fallen in some ways. I think the band will make a good comeback though once they pick a new vocalist
@@MutantPuke Well I just watched some videos. Literally had no idea about this and its super upsetting to hear. I freaking love, Emarosa! Well...until Peach Club and Bradleys fuck-up. And because im from Norway im so jealous you have gotten the chance to see them live...
Thanks for commenting! I wish more bands would come to see you in Norway! Truth is, I just got really lucky by living in the band’s home town. Most bands don't come here because we're in bible belt of America (and most people here suck lol)
@@MutantPuke We get a lot of the big bands, but rarely the smaller underground bands (not saying Emarosa necessarily is a small band, but you get what i mean). I would give so much to see bands like early Emarosa or Mallory Knox
bro wtf dudes really criticized relativity when it came out? literally the best album ever, jonny a G for that for real, relativity sounds way more unique
Emarosa self titled is one of the best album i've never bored to listen too

You have the timeline right, but that time period is REALLY convoluted because of his rehab stint.
Not to mention, how hard DGD fucked Kurt Travis for all this.

I wish they kept their Relativity sound and even went a littttttle harder
No one ever talks about Chris Roetters band after he left Emarosa. Agraceful only made one album but I always go back to it.
Banger man. Gives me Silverstein vibes

Bro you didn't like relativity? That was emarosas best album. Smh.

It was a shame Us, From Outside didn't stay together in their original form. Wasn't keen on their 2nd incarnation (Chasing Safety).
jordan stewart did not play on peach club, and left some time in 2018 without literally a word & barely mentioned on their wiki, mysterious
I swear it had him listed on the album on wikipedia when I made this, but coulda just screwed that slide up. Thanks for letting me know.
I was previously in a band with both Bobby Joffred and Matt Marsellus at one point. Great dudes. Excellent musicians
"oh boy, here we go"
I like relativity and their first album too.
Goddamn. Bradley seemed like such a nice guy when my girlfriend and I met and talked with him after a show.
He’s a douche

This is your way out is the greatest EP of all time
Agreed. That album is so damn good start to finish.

It is no secret that Johnny Craig does not work well with others.
