Bought some Cleavers last season, but didn't get to try them as we were locked down for entire winter. Great review. You basically said what I was hoping you would! Sounds like they will be the perfect replacement for my Targa's when I get back on the snow next week.
These straps are my favorite that I’ve ever used on a pair of bindings. Plus that pivot mount for the heel strap was a game changer for me. I’ve always had pretty severe arch pain no matter what I do, and the first day using my Katanas was the first time in years where my feet didn’t hurt.
Got these to replace the 19/20 Union Atlas bindings on my main board and I can't even properly express how stoked I am on them. This is just my experience, but they are superior in every way. I feel like a big ol' dumb dumb for waiting this long to convert to Rome.
I'm fortunate to get more than a 100 days on snow per season, so I want my bindings to be comfortable but also very responsive. The Atlas is a solid binding for sure, but the Cleaver definitely has my preference. Just as responsive, but a lot more damp. The transfer of power feels more linear compared to the Atlas. The Cleaver is simply more comfortable too, as the straps conform better to the boot. What I also like, is the adjustability of the Cleaver. The fact I can completely dial it in to how I want it, is something I really appreciate. They work together wonderfully with my Nitro Select boots.
I can only echo what Avran says in his review, as he's spot on, but I still wanted to share my experience with these bindings, as I'm truly stoked on them. Time to get Rome bindings for my other boards too!
Love them! They’re on my 21 BSOD and they pair up really well. Just ordered a set for my Flagship as well.
Its basically the evolution of the targa which ive had for going on the 4th season. This definitely on the list of possible next bindings for me
Has anyone else had an issue with the Auxtech straps digging in to the tops of their feet on toeside turns and traverses? Changing the pivot mount doesn’t seem to help much.

I wonder, which binding would go well with my new BSOD 2020/2021? Atlas, Force or Cleaver for intermediate rider who wants to boost his skills in carving? BTW, would Burton SWATH phuck me up with mid stiffness? :x They are new as well.

Best boot is the one that fits your foot and fits your needs. Forces are trash.

Hi! I think the Swath is very soft to the boost carving techniques. But the stiff bindings help lot. I 'm testing one lap Jones Mercury, not bad the skatetech, but I have little boots and the toe strap not perfect for me, from the M size Jones/Now bindings. I had Union Falcor last season, not bad but the previous carbon highback crash very often. I hesitate Union Atlas vs Cleaver, but i have little problems the Union's toe rachets. I hope this Cleaver is perfect for me, i 'm very waiting the first run the Cleaver. If you would like cheap stiff bindings, the Atlas is good choice... After i think you need stiffer boots ;) 👊🏂

Hey Angry, as always thanks for the in depth reviews. I've decided to get the Ravine Select for this upcoming season. I'm now trying to decide between the Katanas and the Cleaver. I've been riding Malavitas and wondered which would be closer in response if not slightly stiffer?

Last season I broke 2 baseplates on cleavers. Rome took care of it, but I've got slightly paranoid about it. Checking all the screws every day. I found that baseplate screws had a tendency to get loose. A drop of loctite working so far. Check your baseplate once in a while 🤙
Oh, and I lost 2 toe straps, but found 1 back. I guess if you fall and get dragged for a little straps can get unlocked ( the inner side). And when you unbuckle it just slides away

you know youre not suppose to use loctite.... its not good for the plastic.

Hi Avran, Cleaver or Katana for a Rome Stale Mod ? I’m using it with Union Atlas at the moment and I love this combo but would like slightly stiffer torsional highbacks (but just slightly). Many thanks 🙏
Cleaver for sure but not sure that's going to give you the stiffness in the highback you want.
these are supreme. I stopped using my Atlas and my Phantom carver. Rome is on the top of the food chain.

I have this bindings on the Ultra Mind Expander. Not bad, but i would like more responsive/ "faster"
bindings. What do you think, Ride A10, C10, Union Atlas FC /Pro, Flux XF / XV? The primary use carving this set. 👌
A 10 or Now O-Drive.
These are way better than the C9, but not as responsive as my Flux TM (which sat between the XF & XV like the CV does now).
Are there any deadspots? And How does it compare to the Black labels bindings?
It has full wrap so more lateral power. Every binding has a dead spot right under foot.
How do these compare to Falcors? Would think these are a more versatile binding
Little more responsive under foot, different straps that grip better, and the highback isn't as stiff.
I actually just bought these bindings just put them on my board and was just wondering since I haven’t been able to hit the snow yet would you say these bindings are still good for buttering or does the stiffness make it feel harder
Can you butter? Yes? Then don't worry about it. No? Time to learn how.
The amount of lateral power you get out of them you would have no problem pressing the tails

hey. the union atlas is it mutch stiffer than the cartel? Looking fore a new binding. i Have the cartel. But like to get more stiff and aggressive binding. ride the flagship 165, and the weston japow. rome cleaver ore the rome katana, ore the atlas? Any opinions? like to ride aggressive, and pow.
Katana is similar to the Cartel. Atlas or Cleaver are two solid options, I’d choose the Cleaver over the Atlas though.

What size binding do you ride with a size 10 boot romes size chart is a bit confusing
It comes down to the boot but my K2's are a little shorter so I go with the M/L. I have a set of the Lg/XL and while they fit when I size them down there's a little play in the sides.
These work well for a 58 Gremlin? Better recommendation? Thanks.

Definitely.
Might be my favorite binding ever, but I think they're overpriced. I think they lose out on market share pricing them $115 over a pair of Cartel X. They're definitely not that much better. I'll second what someone below said, check the hardware. They're not Union bad, but there is so much hardware that something eventually will come loose. Current bindings include the Cleaver, Katana, BM Cor-Pro, and Union Ultras (w/Exoframe 4.0 straps). The Cleavers are currently mounted to my Salomon Speedway and it's good responsive combo.
Cleavers or black labels? biggest noticeable difference in your opinion? I know you ride the black labels often.
Cleavers have full wrap heel cup. Black Labels have Asym Wrap. No one needs the Black Labels, Katana's are more than enough.
