Pretty good video. I apologize for the looong comment. I'm a recently retired ICE agent with extensive experience at the border (as a border patrol agent) and ICE officer and manager, I was also a US advisor at the Darien. I'm in the process of moving to Panama where my father was born. -Migration is mainly economy driven and government policies are the main culprit. -The US government policies have a direct effect on motivating people to come or stay at their home (facts, not a political statement). -Panama has the right to protect their borders and citizens. -Most migration is headed north to the US, however a few thousand people per year mainly people from countries near Panama and some Chinese and Indians, stay in Panama because they have relatives there or have run out of resources to continue their journey. Those people take resources that could be used for the needs of Panamanians. -people coming through the Darien area are at the bottom of the economic ladder or have a criminal record in their country or the US. People with means just fly into Mexico period. -most americans that move abroad are retirees or receiving disability and obviously have the financial means, the ones that live illegally (mainly in Mexico) are running from something or someone. -I personally since my father passed on wanted to connect to his birthplace. -lastly, people want the best for their families and migrating might be their only option, however countries have the right to protect their borders and citizens. -The sudden enforcement at the Darien will deter some but not most, also it will cause what we call the toothpaste effect (when you squeeze one end it will come out the other) ultimately US policies drives the flow.
@@Pedasi66 please don’t feel the need to apologize for your detailed response. I enjoyed reading it, especially from your perspective. The election of DT and now all 3 branches of US gov are under right wing control the policies that drive people to come will probably be overhauled because like it or not the American people have spoken loud and clear. Come to the US legally or face deportion.
@@DisneyGirlTinkerbell thanks for watching! I am happy to hear that you found it to be interesting. I felt like it was information that needed to be shared.
I'm in Panama and have relatives here. It's just horrendous how they let all illegal immigrants enter the country. I'm glad Trump won. This flood of uninvited guests should be cut off period.
President Mulino was quoted in a Panamanian newspaper as saying that the immigration problem is a U.S. problem. He said the illegals using the Darie Gap were heading to the U.S., not staying in Panama. This was after signing an agreement with the U.S. government.
Most don't, but some don't have a choice after running out of money. They are often robbed in the jungle or duped by the smugglers and find themselves stranded in Panamá and a good percentage of Venezuelans and Colombians do have relatives in Panamá and end up staying.

This makes me more nervous about residency in Panama. Investigating a country’s alignment with US policy is a priority

It should be

Very well could be since North America (NAFTA) and Central America (CAFTA) are part of the future North American Trade Zone.
