    As Barack Obama considers ways to enforce immigration laws "more humanely," VICE News travels to Guatemala to meet a deportee named Ray Jesus, who lives apart from his American wife and 5 American children. When Ray lived in the U.S., he was the family's breadwinner. Now they rely on welfare to get by. It turns out that deporting parents costs much more than the price of a one-way ticket home.

      adnan iftiaz They said he tried and after years being held up in appeal court, he met someone, married and relocated. His appeals attorney lost track of him with vital info he needed and could use to press forward in his case. So he became another open case pending for deportation without knowing the final steps he could have taken to prevent it.

      An amazing amount of these people, just like Ray made the same mistake. It's been pointed out again and again. They fail to report with their immigration officers. Fail to show up at important court dates. Till one day a brake light goes out or you fail to signal a turn. Note how Ray, despite running a business here in the U.S.. Failed to send ahead the most basic of tools. That would have made his life so much easier. Even when you know their deporting illegals . Why don't they plan ahead? A sad side note, his wife just waved goodbye, staying behind with 5 kids. Five children is 3 more than most families could afford. Smart people limit their family size. She could have worked. Hired a lawyer to help her husband. Traveled there to visit and bring him things. Give those kids a multi-cultural upbringing.

      Vince H How do illegal immigrants pay taxes if they are undocumented ?? Because they get money taken from their check being exploited by farm owners and other companies because they know illegal immigrants won't complain about low wages and being taxed out of fear of being deported maybe ? Basically "undocumented illegals" put themselves in that situation and it's easy to blame America because and Trump because illegal immigrants don't understand the politics and economics of America because they didn't go through the classes to become a citizen so they are ignorant to how things go sadly.

      The Europeans thought they were above respecting (Native) American laws, and they were because they had power. Those illegal immigrants, if they have power to remain undetected, also have the same moral justification.
      Who owns the land is a very subjective question: does it depend on who arrived first? Does it depend on who is living on the land in the present? You can see it either way, and whenever you have a subjective question like this, whoever has power can say they're right. Choose which rule to cite selectively to suit yourself.
      In the end, it ain't no legitimacy vs. illegitimacy question at all. Behind the thin veil of legal mumbo jumbo, is the ancient brawl between salvage chimpanzee alliances over who gets control of the fig trees.

      Michelle Reyes So Michelle, he was married to an American woman and he had his own business going, so why did he not apply for his legal green card a decade ago?
      Because, he KNEW that he was illegal ! And he KNEW that the marriage to an American would not cover him because he was illegal ! Marriage to an American only works when a person is here legally ! I do actually feel sorry for him because he IS the kind of immigrant that we need in this country. But twenty years ago he did not put forth the effort needed to gain legal status! Instead he ran off, his, and did make a life for himself and his family. He was found because he is an upstanding man and therefore visible.
      I expect that if you drove six blocks down nearly any street in Los Angeles, that you would drive past a thousand illegal Mexicans who deserve to be deported far more than Ray but never will be ! Why? Because they are not upstanding men and they keep themselves hidden under the radar. THEY are the ones that we want deported. But they won't be.

      Second . He has to apply for LEAGAL entry in the USA .
      THIRD. he qualifies because he is married in the USA. As long as there is no criminal record.
      He knew all this before he had family.

      CAPTAINNEMO - I've been a anti-poverty volunteer since the 1960's. Ray is the kind of person who would be able to help his OWN homeland become more technologically advanced & prosperous. There are a couple of BILLION "Rays" around the world. HOW MANY "Rays" do you want this single nation to provide for within our own borders? 100 million? 500 million? My organizations help industrious people, like Ray, create "a better life" for their families IN THEIR NATIVE LANDS. Seriously. Is that not a more compassionate "solution?" Seriously. PS - I've asked this HOW MANY question from numerous people encouraging mass immigration; never got an answer. Are you willing to provide an answer? Thank you.

    he asked himself what did he do? I will tell you he made a poor choice he decided to break the law and take his chances all well knowing this day would come and could happen... He thought that if he could marry a American woman and that would lock him in to be able to say and he was rolling the dice thinking he would win. He was only thinking of himself instead of what would happen when to his kids when they finally would catch up with him and he is taken away and his kids are left without a dad. These immigrants all think it will not happen to them that once they come they can stay or won't be caught. this story is severely slanted as well when they describe the costs to the tax payers. They never once mention what the actual costs in 100's of ways if we where just to open the border and let a flood of immigrants just stay or come here. that costs would be a 100 times more than 12,000 dollars per illegal. Our nation would become a 3rd world country in a matter of 5 to 8 years. Americans lifestyle and earnings and way of livin would change and no longer be what it is right now if we where to allow them all to come across the border. The population would just soar to 4 times what we have now most don't even have a concept of what kind of impact that would have on our America lives. People are so bleeding heart about a few rare stories like this guy. Is it unfare? a bit as the guy is not a criminal or a tax evader or bad guy or more than anything a person who assimilated to American values and standards but he is the very rare case and that's partly because he was in Idaho where there are few Mexicans or Latins and married a white woman. 90% of the other illegals do not assimilate they are not like this rare one guys story. I hate when they media paints this rare heart bleeding story when it's the rare case as most of these types of true stories are not like this mans but of illegals that don't pay taxes "All of them" and do not assimilate or learn American values and lessons and beliefs. No most take advantage of the system and are taught by others to do so and get as much as they can. think you pay a lot of taxes now or pay a lot for health care wait till you open the flood gates to the boarders then you will see all those costs go up 4 times what they are now and you loose your jobs and your cheap college tuitions go up 4 times what they are now. There are always a few people that get burned a bit like this guy did but for every one like him there is 600 or 700 illegals that are doin the opposite of what this guy lived and did. Vice told the story of this one guy that is a rare example or case all to get a bleeding heart story to get viewers and attention as it sells papers. Vice does not tell te whole story of the costs of illegals and the impacts to our county vice only tells the saddest case and rarest case so they can get a audience to say "Awwww" because it gets them ratings... booo on liberal vice totally slanted half truths and non full story coverage... by the way I am Latin... not white.. And a republican and on the of Americans that can't have more than one kid because they can't afford them because we are to busy paying for this guys kids that he left behind to live on welfare all because he choose to "START A FAMILY" well knowing he could be deported at any time because he was a illegal the whole time he was here for 20 years. He just gamble with his wife's life and his children's lives which was selfish. Now he is upset he lost the gamble he needs to take responsibility for his choices...

      he married her because he loved her and not because she was american.
      you also mention that there is a dark side to illegal immigration, i will not deny that there are people here with bad intentions but then there are people like me that were brought here as children, i went to school here, i work and pay taxes. my life is here in the u.s, everything i have is here and i have nothing in mexico.
      you also speak like you understand the subject of immigration very well, trust me you don't, there are a lot of people like him in his situation but something tells me you wouldn't really know about that. when you meet someone like myself you'll understand there is another side to this that the media doesn't portray; not even in this documentary.

    • @RViscara
      @RViscara 10 лет назад

      jairtzinio Yes your correct there is a side that was not portrayed by your comments above and also by Vice and its this one clear point that you need to ask yourself. That question is to look your parents in their face in the their eyes and ask them why they brought you over the border knowing good and well that this day may come when they deport you or when you are in a fender bender and get found out and are deported. You ask them what where they thinking your parents? Did they think that it was going to go away that fact that they broke the law and know it could come back to haunt you and them? Its not like its rocket science to figure out. You break that law and a serious one at that and that one day they may come knocking on your parents door or your door... Just because it takes years for that to happen does not make it any less illegal... What your parents did was illegal and when you do illegal things especially ones this bad your bound to pay the piper one day and you have no one to blame but your parents.... Want to be a man go to your country and try to fix your country and while your at it do so without having 5 kids that you can not support. Because I can not afford to barely have my 1 son and cant afford to pay for all of the ones you illegals keep having...

His youngest son just turned 3, and he barely knows his father. Kacie moved the family to Guatemala last summer for a couple of months to be with her husband, but the lifestyle was very hard on her kids and they had to come back so the kids could go to school. He was deported as a part of a big sting operation here, and nearly every immigrant who went to renew their driver's license were deported. Sum Mors It is true what the news says but clearly it says the reason why is been done:
      "The big switch came about because the U.S. asked Mexico to be actively involved in stopping unaccompanied minors from Central America from coming illegally into the U.S. Out of that request came a new Mexican task force. Mexico’s New Southern Border program is working well in several major ways. It sent 5,000 federal police to its southernmost border and checked borders at the highways coming into Mexico from Central America". So México is doing is bit to avoid illegals inmigrants to reach the US-México border hence the stadistics, and the ironic part more US citizens are moving to México nowadays.

    • @ricardo_cn
      @ricardo_cn 6 лет назад

      Sum Mors What it is in this trend is more of prejudice of social class than racism. In México either you are poor or rich and this is a big gap in the mexican society and it happens to be that the poorer people are mostly indigenous people and because of this, the indigenous people are seen this way. Sad but true!

    • @ricardo_cn
      @ricardo_cn 6 лет назад

      Sum Mors As I agree with the comments you make there is no doubt that you will find people as such in your comments there are, and is a minority. Regarding the wall built in the south border with Guatemala alot of people are asking this (again is true) because now is becoming for them hard to reach the US border and they are staying in México hence the mention of the wall there. Regardless, to me if the US wants to build the wall fine but do not ask for México to pay for it.
      I thank you for your exchange as well.

    I'm confused why he was deported in the first place. Aside from the disturbing nature of deporting hard working people, he was married to a citizen...I'm very confused. What am I missing?

      I feel like he was an illegal immigrant to start with and never finished the paperwork/process to try to become a US citizen (if there was even a legal path to do this) because even if he married a US Citizen he's still an illegal immigrant starting out who did not originally come here via a visa/green card. He tried to apply for a permanent residency but never followed through with the paperwork (seems like it was stuck in bureaucracy)
      In my family's case one member came on a student visa, found a job, got a work visa and eventually green card etc was able to apply for legal immigration and citizenship sponsorship for their spouse/immediate family.
      I have another friend whose wife applied for him to get a green card before he came over to the US to live permanently and is now a US Citizen
      I don't think they're wrong that Ray's case is not unique but there is no easy solution...

      you have to apply for citizenship after or before marriage... he probably never did either so he was technically still illegal my dad applied for citizenship b4 he met my mom but when they got married he got his papers but while he waited for them to come in they gave him a visa/work permit....

      Lol, why tho for what purpose? He has his own business that pays taxes! he came here for a better life & he got that. thankfully I was born American that's something I'll always be grateful for!! It's funny tho because everyone says to do it the right way & when you do, they still say deport him lol "humans what can you do right" have a good day everybody & remember not all immigrants are evil job sucking things they are humans who are just looking for a better quality of life who are you to deny that???

      Maybe she should spread the word in Mexico, To not have children planning to send them to a different country illegally. That’s a horrible parenting plan and disgustingly common in Mexico.

      People dont steal jobs. Its either because they are qualified or just smart. And then there are those people who take things for granted even when its in front of them. And at the end, we would end up blaming others because of some stupid "Oh they came in to steal our jobs"

    • @terrafirma91

      Your statement is too general. Employers are always looking for cheaper labor. An immigrant will perform the same tasks as a citizen for 1/3 the costs. Employers couldn't care less if their city/town/state turns into a 3rd World cesspool. They've made enough profit to move away from it all.

    • @repazzzz
      @repazzzz 10 лет назад +1

      terrafirma91 then make laws that an employer cant pay a non citizen less then a citizen or put fees for not citizen employees that make the cost the same of a citizens.

      That would be a good idea. But most legislatures are on the side of the employers, as well as unlawful immigrants. Don't let them fool you into believing they're not. They follow marching orders from powerful bankers, and these same powerful men want whites gone.

      hmmm yea let's... so if he wouldn't of been deported and kept paying taxes and NOT costing us anything by being a productive member of society then? hmmm.. then u.s tax payers wouldn't of spent those 100k so what would be the actual cost of him to keep living the life that he was living oppose to kicking him out?? wow your logic is beyond words

    When I was in 11th grade I came home to find out both my parents were deported to Mexico they gave me custody of my siblings both 10 and 6 as soon as I turned 18 It's hard when the people you depended on financially and the only people that gave a shit about you disappeared with no warning I can relate so much with this man having to be separated from the people you love because they aren't from this "America " made up of white European people that are essentially immigrants themselves

    One of the traumatic parts of deportation is sometimes they deport people to places they dont even know the language let alone know their way around the country. U.s. immigration is messed up all around.

      J Calhoun , A criminal?? you piece shit!! the man did something with his life he came to this country and had his own business going. I see a lot of ours citizens wasting their life doing drugs and stealing money to support their dirty habits not doing jack shit with their life, living out of our welfare system. So you tell who's the criminal? the ones that contribute to our society or the ones that don't do shit other than live out of the tax payers money.

      Dago Perez You are very correct. We do have a large number of born citizens that should be taken out to a deserted island and dumped there ! They are a worthless drag upon our country. This man is a good man who unfortunately is an illegal immigrant !
      And it is not just the United States! I know of a couple from Canada. The man is a citizen of Canada. Married to his wife for more than three years. She was in Canada on a temporary visa when they married. And she never applied for citizenship in Canada. That visa expired about three years ago. A few months after they were married. She should have applied while she was still legal ! Now, they are living in China while she is applying for a marriage visa to Canada! Yes ! She was deported by Canada even though she was married to a Canadian because she was in Canada illegally ! In Ray's case he could not apply because he was illegal from the very beginning ! He should be able to apply for a spouses visa except he and the Chinese woman both have a deportation hanging over their heads. The Chinese couple ? They are expecting the process to now take so long that they have purchased an apartment in China! The smartest thing for Ray to have done was return to his home country and then apply for a spousal visa . And thus with no deportation on his record !
