Fun Fact: I chose Panama for a few reasons. Two of the reasons are: when I was in Nurse Practitioner School at University of Maryland I worked with several medical students and medical residents from Panama while at Johns Hopkins. They were returning back to Panama to practice medicine when done with their training/ 2: when I served in the Air Force the former AFB (Howard) was a top duty station prior to closing. Panama is a developing nation not a third world country so I am more comfortable being there several months out of each year.@@AbroadAbility
As a panamenian, I love your energy sm! Honestly, our country is not perfect, but socially i feel likr we're more accepting. I hope you enjoyed you staying here.
As a panamanian i laughed at the bonus one!!!🤣🤣🤣 Panama is mostly known because its one of the only cities which is surrounded by nature, and when i mean it is that in the city you pass several parks and forestales just to get into one place from another! so its completely normal to see big birds on the cinta costera or the famous ñeques playing nearby the city! (fun fact: I once was going back to my home, and i saw a sloth crossing the street. In here we respect and love animals!😊)
@AbroadAbility Legal prostitution in such a very Catholic country is shocking to me. Very progressive. Having to beg people to take your money. sounds really endearing. The Nazi symbol was startling because it evokes such a gut response... but it makes sense since no one group has a monopoly on iconography, and the ones we're familiar with might actually be predated by their use in other groups. Very enlightening video. :)
I'm a subscriber who just now saw this one. Very useful information, and I love your unpretentious delivery. Thank you! I hope to be in Panama next spring.
It’s interesting how foreigns see some things differently, I live in Panama, and currently evaluating moving to the US, but having a hard time knowing the actual major differences I could struggle there.

Nice video! Although I'd like to clarify that we don't consider both indenpence days, only Spain's independence day is considered as such, while Colombia's is considered as a separation day. Because Spain had colonized Panama, which lead us to the independence of Panama from Spain and shortly after, Panama voluntarily joined Colombia as a "Departamento", but due to Colombia's negligence it lead to Panama separating after a long conflict.
This video is most informative! Thank you 🙏🏽 I enjoyed your bloopers too 😂 Please keep the great content coming. I will be in Panama for the BEIP Tour, house-hunting and Pensionado Visa!!!!!!!!🎉

I am heading there in May '24 for 3 weeks for a pre-retirement visit. As to Imperial measurement (used in US; Myanmar; Liberia according to Google) vs the rest of the world, I have think metric is simpler - you just think about things in 1/10/100/1000. Once you know what a kilo or a gram is you're good to go. Canadian to American in terms of $ is something I will need to keep an eye on as that impacts my pension equivalent.
Panama used to use standard system too but in some mesurment weight and volume mixed with metric system to measure lands for instance land always was measured in squeare meter.. I believe they made it standar in year 2005...
Hi are there any other places like panama you recommend? I'm strongly considering moving here but I also feel like I'm excluding other places but don't really know how to look and panama is real fitting my wants/needs
Hi I'm new here. It was great getting a detailed view on what it's like to live in Panama! I do have several questions but I'll just ask 1. Did you travel on the plane to Panama alone? I ask because I also have a disability and want to travel one day.
Welcome to to channel! Usually, I have come to Panama alone but a couple of times I came with friends. As of late, I have been asking for wheelchair assistance becuase the walk from check in to the gates can be really really really long.
@@AbroadAbility thank you for the warm welcome 🤗 ! Yes that helps me to know definitely about the walk from checking. And I would be most likely traveling alone. So I just wanted to know about safety. I have a few more specific questions about my own situation. Perhaps may you give your email as I don't want to share all here?
@@Mari-Ama7 I don’t give out my email but I am coming out with a website soon so that people can schedule consultations with me. I will let you know when it is live.

I suppose if you don't have to work here in Panama in any pubblic institution, or ever have to depend on the incredibly frustrating limitations of the pubblic health services, or suffer the traffic and volatile temperament of local individuals, also if you don't mind the overbearing heat the year throughout, and don't mind the general lack of cultural polish or achievements in its atmosphere, then Panamá is your place! Every One forget about the Jungle. The most miserable 10 day in the life of anybody who earned the Magellan skill patch. The US veterans know of what I speak. If you see a monkey eat it you can too.
Hello, you mentioned racism; but you indicated that it could be from different perspectives. Is it racism of Panamanians against Black people? I am fleeing the US because the racism has us old enough to remember; feeling like the US is heading back to the Jim Crowe era. I would have to re-think fleeing to a country where racism is; as in your face as it is in the US. I know there is racism of some sort in every country. However, I am wanting to minimize that exposure for a less racist anxiety retirement. The bloopers were so relatable. Thank you😀
It is not even close to what you have experienced in the US. Not EVEN CLOSE! Many people have moved here fleeing race relations in the US and are at peace here.
Racism’s exist but it’s mild, mostly on the political elites and Jews or other religions that search their own people Most of the time is a class and education issue, old school racism is dying with the boomer generation . It’s a interesting topic but in short it’s not the white vs black Vs Latino that might happen in the USA
In Panama, people care more about your ability to communicate in Spanish than the color of your skin. This inclusivity is evident, as almost every family in Panama has at least one Black member. Celebrating this diversity, the country dedicates the month of May to "Mes de la Etnia Negra" (Black Ethnicity Month), featuring various activities that honor the Black community. Reflecting this deep-rooted heritage, about 30% of Panamanians identify as Black or of Black descent.
There is a lot more out there than what you see in the US. Although some things are the same in some part of the US. Garbage, have you been to Manhattan? oh! and RATS! or some areas of South Carolina or North Carolina, Virginia, Washington DC and others? I moved to South Carolina, never saw so many deers in my back yard and with a fence and all, they jump it to get to my garden. Coyotes, walking like, well not like because after all, humans are destroying their habitat to build houses, etc. X rated? In Bali, Indonesia you see men's part in souvenir stores. All sizes 🙂 right there on the shelves in front of everyone. I went in with my son to different stores and we both pretended like we didn't see. but that is normal there. They also use the swastika in Bali. They explained that the nazis stole it and made it their own. In Long Island NY, where the soil is sandy, there is no sewage system. Cesspools are used. So residents do use a trash can for solids like toilet paper, feminine waste, etc. that way they extend the life of the cesspool. Otherwise it would fill up quicker than the expected lifespan of 30 years. The cesspool is usually buried in the front or back of the house. I was born and raised in Panama and we never had a trash can by the toilet in the house. Maybe in apartment buildings.
Wow! Thanks for sharing the info on the swastika sign in Bali! I had no idea but this is why I love exploring the planet. You can learn so much about the world and yourself.
