    I can’t believe locticians are still out here telling people not to wash their hair for months at a time. That’s ridiculous! Water is actually great for our hair and can actually help to speed up the locking process because of the shrinkage! . Smh. I’m glad she had the sense to do her own research , and i hope she reconsiders going back to that stylist lol.

    I’m sorry about your loss. Prayers to you and your family. I also wanted to say “thank you”. I just made my 8 month mark on my locs and I’ve been having my loctitian wash and retwist them. I have been hesitant to try it myself because my hair is soft around the edges and not locked yet. But watching this video today encouraged me to wash and retwist on my own. I was nervous but I did it. Took me a little while because I have over 100 locs, but I did it. Thank you so much!

    That shirt looks beautiful on you. Washing my hair has helped it loc. I think they want to prevent the hair getting messy, but that's part of the journey. I almost quit a couple times but now at 5 months my hair is calming down and looking like locs. Started and maintained myself. It's such a personal and spiritual journey. I never got why people said that but it's really true.

    Yep, the best thing is to wash your hair and not allow dust and dandruff to build up in your locs until they break off. My sister in law started my locs with twists and she told me to wash it once a week so your hair can Matt up because water just does that to your hair, it helps loc your hair faster and it's moisture on top of that.
    I've had locs before when I was younger but I took them out when I turned thirteen because I didn't like how thick they were. I missed my locs so What I started with recently made me happier and this is my fifth month.

    I first washed my hair my third week being loc’d. I couldn’t tolerate the itching. When I washed it, I used a wig cap so that my 2 strands wouldn’t unravel. Now I wash every 4-6weeks. But it all depends on if my scalp itches.

    So sorry to hear about your lost.
    Personally, I believe starter locs should be washed every 3-4 weeks... now that I am over 2.5 years locd, I wash my hair every week to 1.5 weeks (not after a fresh retwist). I have to because I have scalp issues during the colder seasons so that’s what works for ME. Prior to covid-19 I use to maintain my lil bro locs.. now I am making him do his own! We live in completely different households and I agree anyone who hasn’t should definitely use this time to maintain their own locs and learn their has in its LOCD form. I sent him multiple videos on RUclips to help guild him... he would have to learn the same way I did.

      Then when it’s locked get a retwist ???

    • @chrissysunpopular
      @chrissysunpopular 2 года назад +4

      @@antoncoker hey hey 👋🏾 I just want to note I am not a loctician**
      But when it came to maintaining my brothers locs, I washed his starter locs every 4 weeks with a cap on his head for the first 5-6 months… as far as not retwising… personally in the 1st year of being Locd, I advise consistency when maintaining your locs with a retwist. It is training your locs to loc up in a manicured fashion. Unless you want to semi-freeform, then go how ever long you would like w/o a retwist. The decision is completely up to you, depending on what your long term loc goals are. 😊

    I've only been loc'd for a month but this is my fourth loc journey (that's a whole other topic In itself). I would say wash your hair early. I'm active and have a sensitive scalp that gets product build up easy but I ended up washing my hair in the first two weeks starting with two strand twist and out of all my sets, this set is my fav bc it literally had already begun to bud in just a month.

    I washed mine two weeks after starting my journey. I went to a different loctician who said my locs were poorly done. I didn't know better so I believed him. Hlo Dae, so the thing is I started my loc journey March 4, 2020. My loctitian told me to not wash my locs for now, he didn't say when. But it was one month already April 4, and Quarantine came, my scalp got really itchy and I had to wash my hair. My locs didn't unravel totally bcos I had watch RUclips videos on how to wash my locs. But now, its been two weeks from my first wash and I have not retwisted my locs

  • @ItsSonya94
    @ItsSonya94 4 года назад +6

    Hey, new subbie here! I think it depends on what kind of locs you're starting with. Sisterlocks has a butt load of rules, do's and don'ts. I started with sisterlocks even though I like the look of traditional locs better. After a year of having sisterlocks I combined my locs to start my traditional locs journey. What I've found, and unfortunately I found out the hard way, is that you have to be VERY, VERY, VERY careful of who you choose to be your loctician. People are out here scamming folks, people are all about the money and don't care about your hair. They are telling people to come back in two or three weeks for retwists which is entirely too soon for retwisting and only leads to breakage. You gave the right advice - wash your hair when it needs it. Do your research on these locticians. Look at their work, ask others for recommendations. There are a lot of FAKES out here. SMH.

      You're welcome! And when I said retwisting in two or three weeks is too soon, I meant for sisterlocks in particular because they are smaller locs that can break easily from too much manipulation and tension.

I discouraged myself because I felt like I’m going to screw my entire journey up! I began my journey in June . My lotician sad no to washing and I would not loc until October or November. I watched some You Tube videos and she didn’t even realized I washed it upon return.
    I also agree that some stylish have a one and all plan for products . Everything doesn’t work for everyone. I said no to that Black Jamaican castor oil. The build up was insane and with my seborrhea dermatitis it was horrific. She told me to give it another try and I said absolutely NOT!!!

      TheTeacher9900 please wash your hair!! Your hair may unravel, but that is normal. It will loc when it is ready, and not washing it will not cause it to loc any faster! ❤️

    I’m a week into my journey with comb coils. I used a homemade concoction of aloe Vera gel to twist. And I’ve also been working out. My scalp is so itchy. When can I wash! I previously washed my hair weekly when I just had curls and my scalp is talking to me.

      Maybe the gel is causing the itching. I'm only using oil and water, clips of course, and hooded dryer to maintain my hair. Have you oiled your scalp love? Jojoba oil works best for my sensitive skin. It doesn't have a fragrance and it's light. Not heavy like castor oil. I do use Jamaican black castor oil on my edges.

    girl i need sooo much help. My 4 year old son has started his locs in feburary and my sons god mother did it. I asked her when should i wash his hair and she said i couldnt until it locs up so i have just been moisturizing i was using and using loc gel and edge control for a little bit starting seeing build up so i just used the loc gel so i stopped cause my son well with him being a kid hes gonna do a lot and his hair becoming frizzy is just part of him being a kid. So i have started him on a twisting cream hoping for better results. Well it smells great and works well with his hair, But everything i looked up and his god mother said not to wash until it locked im just like wth. his hair is locked but there is build up and i am still learning how to twist and retwist. Id like to do his first twist tomorrow im just kind of stuck on what i should use to wash with. SOS SOS SOS!!! ASAP SIS

      Wash it. Use me as an example. I washed my hair at two weeks, and every two weeks after that. Hair needs to be kept clean ESPECIALLY if you’re using product. Some people’s hair takes over a year to loc so Does this mean they should go a year without washing their hair? Ofcourse not! Lol, you will be fine. It is a learning curve. My top advice, keep the scalp clean, be patient, and do not use heavy products like creams. Be veryyyy careful with the gel. It may not show up right away but later on it will surface. Take care! You got this!
