I just started my loc journey over a month ago. I hope everyone reading this is enjoying their journey, and embracing it.
    Here is the list:
    1. Thicker locs
2.relieves tension from the scalp and the edges
    3.easier and moisturizing process
    4. Cuts down on styling time and drying time
5.increased confidence, self awareness, and acceptance in your locs

I also use virgin hair fertilizer and my hair is darker thicker and scalp is clean no build up.

I’ve heard it said that trying to keep roots retwisted is like trying to keep a retouch on the roots of permed hair. Always trying to keep kinky-curly hair in its natural state from being seen. Most black women are always afraid to let their true hair show and they are deathly afraid of water getting on their natural hair. STOP. Embrace what your hair looks like in its natural state. There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s beautiful. It’s funny that there is more concern with kinky-curly roots making the hair look unkempt but very little concern about dirty hair or hair that smells bad from infrequent washing or smelly grease/oil. That is the ultimate unkempt condition.

    • @indigoocean7906
      @indigoocean7906 4 года назад +10

hmm... I get your point but getting locs in itself is a huge step away from conforming to Eurocentric standards of beauty. Locs are the most natural form their is when it comes to black hair. I think it's ok to want your partings to look neat.

I got my locs started with a loctician many years ago, and used to go for 'maintenance' every 2 weeks. After about a year, I stopped going and washed and retwisted myself. For the past 4 years, I have not retwisted, but I softly separate the roots sometimes. I found that I hated the 'neat' parts and seeing my scalp, so now I have no defined parts. My hair is thick and pretty in its semi-freeform state, and people always compliment my hair. I love it!

Thank you for that advice! I have thick hair and I don't like my hair to be frizzy that's why I twist em myself overtime and it caused it to break or get skinny to the point where I got to double strand it. I'll stop retwisting and twisting my hair when it's frizzy, wash em twice or every 3 or 4 weeks and leave em alone.

I love this, I do not retwist, because I love the texture of my natural. Also I had a neck surgery and the it pulls on the nerves and causes tightness. Lastly retwist can cause breakage. Thank you sista for being a free style sista!

I just started my loc journey 6 months in , and it started to lock in 2 months after I got it twisted. And like you said with the pandemic you have to learn how to do stuff for yourself , so I move from one state to another state. So I have to learn how to retwist it myself which I've been doing pretty well. And my hair needs to be washed once a week. However, I was just wet it in the shower the other day, and just got out and just let it air dry and I like it so much...🌻 Peace thanks for your videos and helpful tips. 🤍

I can’t wait to get to the point where I feel like I can wash mine and not have a hot mess situation - I hit three months loc’d at the end of the week and have only had one retwist so far, but I have a lot of loose hairs just hanging out lol. I tried to do a full wash myself at my 5wk point and it was crazyyyyy, even after separating them (that’s how retwist 1 came about 🤣). I pretty much just cleanse the scalp now and spray the locs themselves to moisturize instead of fully submersing, cuz it’s seeming like a great way to involuntarily enter into a free form situation 🤣🤣 Not at all worried about the new growth texture issue butttttt...I def need to see what TX is gonna do about reopening these salons quick though, otherwise I’m gonna have to make a go at it 🤭

I've had my locks now, for a month. After having them for about 3 week. After showering I let my lock get totally wet with cool to lukewarm water, then wrapped it to dry it. I put oil on my scalp set under the dryer for like 15 minute. It came out pretty good it didn't unravel , about 2 days ago I washed it for the first time. I used a big hair net to wash my hair and dilute it the shampoo with water. It came out pretty good. And didn't unravel. I have Now is 4 B hair. I've been natural for about 6 years. And I'm have gray hairs I decided not to color it. I've been without color in my hair for about six months now. And I love it. Thanks for your comments it's helping me as I go through my hair Journey.

Ok, so I am going to listen to you only because I cannot afford to go to my stylist for a wash and retwist and because I can't twist myself. Lol. And my hair looks like yours after washing, maybe worse. They don't look like locks anymore . The roots still looks locked but the ends look loose. It's sort of difficult to explain. It looks like my locs have been washed loosed. Literally, and my stylist and old stylist have said the same. It's weird and I have super coarse hair. I have that white stuff on my hair from when I took the ponytail out or whatever style I have at the time, looks like mold. But I never get it wet and don't sweat so I don't get it. So this will be my fist time on 3/27/2021. It's 4:49 p.m. and I about to do it. Stop me anytime now :) Lol.

I've discovered sponge hairstyling and am stuck on that. For the most part I have waited 3 weeks before washing and conditioning my hair and letting it rest for about a week then getting the retwists put back in. I'm looking for fullness and growth and that's what I have been getting. Alternating between retwisting and freestyling is a good thing to do. ♥️

    I have a question.
I'm one year locd now and I'd go 6 weeks until I wash and then retwist.
I noticed my hair gets so tangled and when I do retwist I'm now pulling and snapping my hair just to find the part again. I don't care for the really neat look but it's the snapping and picking and pulling when it is time to retwist.
Is it too late in the game to wait longer in between for fuller locks?

I retwist mine once a week or 2. I don't sit under the dryer. I did that the first times I've had locs too without any problem. Theres nothing wrong with testwisting as long as you aren't twisting it like you're ringing out a rag.

First time I washed my hair since I started this loc journey was last week. i was so surprised at how easy it was and yes, I did retwist or rather interlock my locs. Didn't think just twisting would last. i have about 200 microlocs. I noticed the tension on my scalp after retwisting. I think I will try not retwisting next time I wash or rather not interlocking and just a little twisting. No palm rolling that (just seems to untwist my 2 strand twist starter locs.)
