Welcome to Slew Living! I'm Esther and I sew stuff to support a slow sustainable lifestyle.
In this video I talk about how and why we use projectors for sewing (there are some great benefits!) and then walk you through setting one up. There are lots of different set ups (different projectors, cables and computer variations), so I am specifically setting up an Epson ultra short throw (UST) projector on a Mac laptop using a USB cord connection, and viewing on Adobe Acrobat (free pdf program).
It’s my goal to be uploading weekly again so if you have any video suggestions feel free to leave a comment below, thanks!
If you’re starting to learn about sustainable and ethical living and how to curate a more mindful lifestyle, a great step is to learn how to sew. Mending your own items increases our appreciation for ‘stuff’, so I hope you find something on my channel to spark some creativity.

First, yours is the best projector video I've seen, and I've gone through a lot of them. So, thank you for that. What I don't think you or any have is a long view. that is, one picture or frame that showing the whole concept. A shot with the (a) projector (b) projecting light and showing (c) material with the (d) pattern image projected onto the flat material. In a movie, it's where the set up scene begins the movie. Outside of that setup scene I think your tutorial is the clearest, great speaking voice, charm and you go over many complex, important details charmingly and clearly. Thank you.

Thank you so much for you kind comment! I'm glad it was helpful. Thank you for the suggestion for a long view, I will note this down for future video ideas! I haven't used my projector in quite awhile, but it is important to show those things so I will keep it in mind :)

What stand did you use for your projector ?

    • @SlewLiving

It's the Epson short throw project wall mount, if you search that it will come up with some options! I stand it upright on the table as shown in the video but it's actually designed to be mounted sideways on the wall!

I have a question, how do you get your patterns on you computer that are compatible with your projector? Can you use any paper patterns? What is the process? I feel as though I am missing some steps. Thanks

You need 'pdf pattern files' which are a digital version of paper patterns. Lots of designers now offer pdf patterns but it's worth checking before you purchase. Hard copy paper patterns won't come with pdf versions unless specified :)

It can be tricky to set up initially, but like most things will become easy once you get used to it :)
