It's all about thrift stores and remembering that anything made of fabric can be used to make something and anything can be resized and customized. Heck, not just clothing items, but sheets and curtains can be used for costume fabric. Even props or bases for them can be found at thrift shops. Also, Walmart and Spirit Halloween directly after Halloween can be a great time to look for props and fake blood and other accessories. Not everything needs to be a big ass screen accurate Iron Man costume. Heck, you don't even have to be screen accurate at all if you don't want to or have the skills to be yet. Just create something based on the key characteristics of the character and you should be good to go. Closet cosplay is also a thing. Just grabbing what you already have in your closet and putting together something that the character would wear can work too. Only expensive thing is wigs, but you can start with just cheap Amazon wigs and go from there or just use your own hair if you can or if you're willing to cut or dye. There are options. You just need to do research and try. You got this. I believe in you and anyone else that has made the same assumptions about cosplay that wants to pursue it
