Manny was my friend. He was a wonderful guy. I was heartbroken. I went to UF during that time. It was absolutely terrifying what we all went through. I cannot explain the utter fear we lived with every day. What the news doesn’t tell you is about the rumor mill. Each day they would say on the news and the radio that there were 8 bodies found, then 10, then TWENTY!!!! We seriously thought we couldn’t walk outside without being killed! I was a sophomore at UF during the time of these murders. The palpable fear and anxiety was causing such bad dreams, I ended up withdrawing from school and leaving the state. I did eventually finish my degree at UF at a later date. This is the first time I’ve heard all the details of what happened. I hesitated for a long while before hitting the play button. He was already executed on Florida's death row. This is a wild story dating back to late 80's -early 90's. He was a psycho serial killer who was finally caught in Homestead/Redlands Florida. He rented a room at my friend's house, and, attempted last murder unsuccessfully while in tge company of another friend of mine. I didn’t stop doing this until I got married, but I still clear each room with my Ruger when I come home alone. Some of these stories stick with you for a reason. It’s a paranoid practice, but I don’t care. My 15 yr old daughter will be doing the same when she moves out…Part of it stems from kids joking in HS, I was most likely to be killed by a serial killer. I remember my dad, who had recently had a big back issue(and was in tremendous pain) would get up and walk me to the bus stop every morning. I had to cross through a small patch of trees, he would wait until I passed through them and hollered at him before he would go back home. We had parents at the stop, who were armed.

To learn this now is a bit unsettling, and to know he was caught in Ocala after robbing a Winn Dixie on 200, that made it much worse in my head.
Also around this time, along that stretch of I75, some men were going missing after soliciting a sex worker - Aileen Wournos had disposed of some bodies near the 484/I75 area.

My mother was a student at UF and living with my dad at the time of the Danny Rowland killings. One weekend when he was out of town she was convinced someone was watching her. She told me that she actually had seen a head and a pair of eyes watching her from her from the emergency hatch inside her closet (essentially from the roof). A friend of theirs came and inspected the apartment immediately. They found someone’s living space in the hatch above her and my dads closet, but no person was there. They had broken in through crawl space left in roof of the Camelot apartments because at the time none were sealed off. It was easy access in and out of those apartments if you knew about it. A sleeping bag, tons of candy bar wrappers, and drink containers was inside that hatch. My mom fit the EXACT description of most of the women that were targeted.
When they called the cops they thought she would have potentially been another victim, but can never say for sure. It’s so disturbing watching this because I feel like I’m looking at my mom in all the photos of these women. I’m just glad she trusted her instincts and got the hell out of town with my dad and their friends. She said it was on of the most traumatic times in all the students lives because no one knew who could be next, and even being with people didn’t necessarily mean you were safe.

Now that i'm older and have listened and watched numerous evil acts that humans have done, i am totally convinced it's not only justified but that it's necessary. Whatever the reason that certain people have no empathy or enjoy committing these acts, it's not up to the taxpayer to keep them alive for life. It only increases the chances they may kill again either in prison or if they get out. Maybe the relatives of the victims should be able to form a firing squad or decide how the perpetrator dies. Too much evil in the world today and it's time to empty out the cells of murderers that are 100 percent guilty and have zero remorse. Why should the tax payer be on the hook for keeping them alive? I had watch this video when it first came out. Being a subscriber of few years I had watched around 70% of your videos, taking my time as a few subjects is hard to bear after listening to it. But man, this really tops it all. The first time watching, not many had commented, I like reading comments so it does not felt that heavy yet at the time. But re watching as I’ve forgotten what this was about, it scares me and touch me deeply as the comments had become more personal. There’s so many comments coming from people that are affected almost directly to this. It is really terrifying

Gainesville resident here. This case still haunts the town to this day.
One of the most chilling parts I’ve ever heard about this case was that when Manny and Tracey were noticed as missing, some people got into their apartment to try and check what was going on. When they walked in, they saw blood and a black bag and immediately turned away to call the police. Once they got back, the black bag was gone. Many people think the killer was still inside when these people came in first, but once he heard them he got spooked and ran off. She wasn’t mutilated post mortem like the other victims, supporting this theory. Absolutely horrifying to think of if you were the friends to walk in

Watching the show alone made him paranoid that someone was in the house with him, especially after finding a window unlocked as he went room to room to investigate. He called his friend to stay on the phone with him as he did a room search, and they started to joke about all the horror movies that ask if you are alone. Hence, the inspiration for Scream.

Maybe it's hypocritical, coming from a fan of true crime stories, but I feel like turning these people into horror movie characters is sort of 'glamorizing' them.

Sometimes he have his guitar and be playing and singing as he did. He was older he would stop and talk to us and we knew he was a little wierd but NO idea he would go on to do the horrific things he did. We walked home from elementry school and everyday his dad would be sitting in his driveway saying hello to all the kids that passed his house.
