The guitar playing hostage is Romain! Don’t worry about pausing and rewinding! It won’t bother the Renegades😁 I really loved your thoughts and insights! Be sure when watching MG2 you do the Lyric video not the live version. If you like hearing Ren sing, he just dropped a new track that is phenomenal! Love your channel and your chill vibe! ❤️‍🔥✌🏻🫶🏻

Oooh! Starting the Money Game! This took, what? 160? 180? (some ridiculous amount, any way) takes due to lots of delay due to local construction, and weather etc. (Romain deserves a medal for being the first "bag-head" in Ren's "Money Game" series.) This is the creation of Ren and Samuel that I love the most so far (even more than MG3) for the same reasons you cite. The atmosphere is incredible. And it's created with almost no funds.
Romain is playing the guitar. 183 takes on a cold night. He seems to specialize in playing in inclement weather; check out his newer video Rainwater (and his description of the video shoot)

I believe that this was Ren and Samuel’s first go at the one take- it took roughly 180 of them ! Back then they found locations wherever they could, and this one was absolutely perfect for MG1. And ,as always, Ren manages to speak volumes in the unspoken silence. And he ALWAYS points out that we, all of us, are part of the game so it’s really up to each one of us, as a collective, to play accordingly.

Notice the drawing of the eyes so that the establishment can see what they are doing to the people ( they see the petrol can ) but sadly to no avail ,,Ren understands that they are not blinded (as he says in lyrics ) then instead of destroying the establishment (Authority ) he does what people do when they have nothing left ..he destroys himself ..this is top tier writing and performance ..What an artist ...nice reaction man

Yes, RATM use a photo of monk Thich Quang Duc, who self-immolated in '63 in protest of the S. Vietnamese persecution of Buddhists (S. VN regime at the time were mainly Catholics, the religion that the French had brought to Indo-China). I've lived in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) for 20 yrs & have been through that intersection 100s of times. There's a big park & beautiful statue of him in flames. Seeing Ren do this hits deep. @@IzzyIzenstain Yeah, just google 'Thich Quang Duc statue Ho Chi Minh City", that'll get you there. It's relatively new and they took a whole corner lot in a very busy area of the city & made it into a park. It's a big deal because land value is really high & everything usually gets developed (over-developed). On the opposite corner to that park there's been a small building/memorial for him for many, many years that supposedly held some relics of his. People still actively burn incense and leave offerings there daily. The car he was driven to Saigon in was taken back to Hue in Central VN, to a pagoda. I've seen it there. Sorry to go on, I just love the city & living here so I babble. 🤣

There's just a great vibe over here, easy to meet people, great weather (I grew up in Chicago & hate being cold, lol), just great lifestyle. I was deciding between Bangkok, Thailand & Saigon and ultimately chose Vietnam because it's got a more 'personal' vibe compared to Bangkok (which I also love), even though there's around 9 million people in Saigon, lol. So I haven’t seen you do this series yet wow OK well now I have something to do this afternoon before work that’s exciting. Man I don’t think you’re too big on wrap, but this is kind of wrap. He has his own style really it’s not wrap wrap, but you know he has certain flows and pockets that he hits That wrap he does fast. I think you’re really gonna enjoy this man if I’m not mistaken and don’t quote me on this book I think he said because you know most of the videos are done in one take one one take time or sell it messes up they start back at the beginning, I’m pretty sure this video took him the most any of his videos it was like 238 I want to say takes before that. He was happy with his perfectionist also, I think four years ago and then part two I think it’s two years ago and then part one is obviously in the I mean part three is obviously in the last yearact, he said he got a lot better. I guess memorizing it and not making mistakes and getting it done and a lot less time but I know this one quite a bit of time. Oh man that’s funny that I commented to you one other time when you mentioned Peaky Blinders that rent doesn’t remind you of the main character and you just said it yeah he could definitely be Peaky Blinders. His acting is exceptional. This is what I think is gonna happen so you can call me a prodigy. You can say Joe from New York and I know this prodigy, getting his treatments in Canada until August because he said that he really push himself hard when his career takeoff and get number one he really had to go against some of the doctors advice and not rest near as much and he was willing to sacrifice a little bit of his progress with his health to Heaven, his career takeoff one because he put so much effort into his career obviously and it’s his passion and because he said when he becomes super financially, independent which I’m assuming he is now that he’s had a number one record he can get any treatment he wants from anywhere in the world at any time compared to the many years, he scraped up money to buy things off of infomercials and he would gather the energy to go busting once or twice a month to be able to pay for more and more doctors visits anyway August or June I think he’s gonna head back to the UK and do some showsand then I know he had mentioned that he still was gonna have more treatments just not as often so he’s gotta be somewhere close and proximity to Canada and I imagine somewhere like New York Chicago even LA just a couple hour plane ride to Calgary so I would say probably the north east and I think at that time work on a new album which you have quite a few compilations with other artists and you know in the UK or I guess anywhere it’s like you’ve officially made it when you make it in the United States music scene so yeah I predict that Hill end up on the US billboard chart top 20 probably top 10 and then after that, he either have the money or he’ll get the backing too do his own Netflix series either based on his life or something to do with music whatever he wants where he can write and direct if he wants act, etc., and then he’s a global icon which he deserves to be already. So that’s my prediction Izzy. Any thoughts? I mean it’s amazing how low budget this must’ve been yet how entertaining it is is really a credit to him and again with the lapel Mike, where you catch all the noises of the jacket ruffling, and the sound of the rope and the bat on the fence, he reminds me of, the Joker here. Maybe Jack Nicholson, but perhaps Heath ledger. I think this is my wow it’s really hard to rate the money games 12 and three and how I like them. I think I like this one musically the second one lyrically and the third one lives and his acting is super one and three obviously historical ability is off the charts. Oh man now you’re gonna compare him to the joker after I did it but you’re gonna use the Joaquin Phoenix one. This is starting to get creepy. See I watch a little bit and then I comment and watch some more and add to my comment this way I don’t forget cause when I wait till the end that I’m like, what did I wanna say I want to mention this and You know I even smoke weed and I can’t remember so getting back to the Mack thing. His memory is absolutely insane. You gotta watch one of his videos but anyway, yeah it’s totally the I wonder if that’s where he gets stuff from. I didn’t see the Phoenix one that you’re talking about. I might have to watch that one I Johnny Cash, sometimes he gets on my nerves a little bit but yeah might check that one out. Rent is some kind of active buddy. I’ll tell you what I don’t know if he’s ever had active lessons but he’s a natural he really is some people because you know, I did some acting and some extra work and was in a couple movies, Sweet home Alabama money train a couple of plays but anyway you know you meet some people in the cameras is drawn to them. I mean, I guess you meet people like that real life too right like they have this magnetism about them and you don’t really know what it is, but you just can’t take your eyes off them. He 100% has that! Even when I watch him in the big push and he’s not doing the lead singing, you know the guy that looks like John Wick is singing or the Frenchman who kills the guitar by the way, but yeah if friends in the background, just playing bass it’s like you’re still drawn to him It’s really uncanny, i’m sure he’s a good looking guy but has something to do with it, but I don’t think that that’s really the main thing his expressions is charisma, etc. he said he used to be really shy, which is hard to believe and that he would have to get shitfaced drunk to come out of his shell I suppose that all the busing done has really changed that about him completely. I almost wonder if he has an alter ego! I bet he does. If you notice sometimes while a lot of the times when he’s gonna start a song or when he’s just playing guitar before he starts singing, he takes his deep breath and blows it out and kind of shakes his head like he’s turning into character of course that could be like some sort of stress release sobreath technique, I guess, but in my opinion, that’s him going and becoming the character. He does it at the beginning of journey, screech and violet if you pay attention closely, especially at the beginning of Violet tale when he stands up and gets out of the bed after he rewinds the guitar, you’ll see he tapes the deep breath and blows out and shakes his head and then turns and faces the camera and he looks different you know next time OK I’m gonna stop talking becauseI’m sorry this comments so long. So when he takes the guitar and looks like he’s torturing him, which I guess he kind of is but he’s painting eyes on the hood which I guess is saying can you see me now or to see where I’m coming from now? at least that’s why interpretation.

Ren has such innate abilities in so many areas, acting is just one of them. I wonder if perhaps, his lack of formal training in all these spheres is of benefit, in that he knows no rules, so breaks none? I wonder if he would have been stifled by acting or music lessons?
Having said that, I wish someone had taught him how to coil a rope, it would have looked even more sinister if it had been done correctly!

Yeah, depending on the training it definitely can be a hinderance! But I suspect Ren being Ren, he wouldn't have let it hinder him. Take what you find useful and throw the rest out. Gonna have to look up how to coil a rope properly now!

Cracks me up.. Ren being mean to poor Romain - cause there isn't anything mean in Ren

I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this with different reactions, but this was the first time I realised the rope at the start it old…so…money for old rope…
I’ve not heard anyone suggest that.
Also - did you notice that the rope vanishes? I suspect it’s handed off to someone who must hide it behind one of the pillars - again, not heard any reaction notice that :)

Breaking in to the space under Brighton Pier late at night, and just making incredible art…this group of people are so creative and dedicated to their art.

MG 1-3 all go together, but you can also throw in “Crucify your culture”.

The but with Ren dancing with the baseball bat, I think is homage to Clockwork Orange …as I think Rodney McDowel does a move like that (also the earlier bit with ren jumping side to side I think is referencing the droogs too).

And as soon as I posted that comment while still watching, you said it reminds you of clockwork orange :)

Ren is a Kubric fan and lists a lot of his films as inspiration, and has used the titles in lyrics etc.

When you're done reacting to all the money games you should check out some Ren and Sam T collabs 😊

I still don’t totally get the ending
I assume that the hoods represent how we are blind to all this
    Then he gives him eyes
To watch him pour the gasoline etc..
I want to understand it better

I'm not sure there has to be a definitive meaning. It may have meant one thing to Ren at the time and another at another time, and I'd say the same goes for the audience. So I guess it's open to interpretation. All of the things you've said could certainly be true.
