A song about lost love, and doubts over the validity of memories. I sing a part of Born To Die by Lana Del Rey towards the end, I began doing this as it just felt right one day, and now I can't imagine the song without it. I'll highlight her lyrics in {{ these }} below. I'll also put a link to my favourite performance of Born to Die. Thank you for watching. Lyrics Do you remember when I walked ...

If you’re new to Taylor, as I’m guessing you are, you need to start right at the beginning but if you think time is too short for in excess of 200 songs, not counting what she’s written for others, then start from Evermore&Folklore, then Midnights, then TTPD part1 the. TTPD part2 the anthology). Get to all the other albums in time but the 5 most recent are all from lockdown years to present but get in with it because she’s already working on the next album and she still hasn’t released the Taylor’s Versions of her Debut and Reputation Albums which are imminent and most swifties are clowning for them to be released together as a double album named Debutation. Then out of left field there is a lost album still in the vault with the working title of Karma or Woodvale that she never finished and maybe never will but they were at a really bad depth she found herself so may have buried it completely.

The thing about Taylor is that she makes music for every taste whether you love fun, catchy pop songs; heartbreaking ballads; deep, introspective indie songs; or even youthful country songs. Her storytelling and lyricism has improved with maturity, but she's had those from the time she was a teenager. In my opinion, she has several songs in contention for the best written lyrics. I would check out All Too Well, the 10 minute version which is also a short film music video, Tolerate It from the Eras Tour, Illicit Affairs from the Eras Tour, and from her new album The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, How did it End, loml, and I could just keep going with songs from each album. Love seeing you're journey here.

Great reaction . To some that say you stop too much, ignore them and be yourself. Most Swifties have seen the videos, have the albums, go to concerts and know the songs. We come to reactions to hear your opinions. You appreciation of her lyrics and musical sensibility will make you a popular reactor in the Swiftie universe. I believe she is one the top lyricists of her generation ( maybe even the top) Her writing touches the soul

For lyrical and epic dissing thanK you aIMee is great. Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me and The Black dog are also amazing I subbed for more Taylor ❤

Love your reactions! This song is about her music. When her first 6 studio albums were sold without her knowledge and to someone she did not want them sold to. Her music, her words, her art. The lyric, “when you can’t sleep at night, you hear my stolen lullabies” is powerful. She has fought for the right to regain the rights to her words by recording those same albums, and in doing so has also fought for the rights of other artists to do the same. Only one of the many reasons her fans respect her on a level I have never seen with another artist. The Long Pond Sessions are, as you said, magical. The lyrics she weaves together are a tapestry of truth, pain, and damn good storytelling. Happy listening!

This song is so painful. I know it's about something very specific to Taylor but I always think of it as a divorce. This is only a small sample of the beauty of Taylor's songwriting. She writes all the lyrics and melodies and those two guys in the studio, Jack and Aaron, are her closest collaborators at the moment. This entire studio session is so special. You would like the Folklore Album and its sister album, Evermore. She released these during the 2020 pandemic and she really grew into her already good songwriting. I think without the pressure of marketing, touring and just being a star she was able to create in a really deep way.

You mentioned that you like interwoven stuff. You get A LOT of that with Swift. A few examples from this particular album are from the songs Fortnight, Down Bad and The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived. These three songs reference work from previous albums. The opening lyrics in Fortnight say, “I was supposed to be sent away but they forget to come and get me.” The last line from her last album, Midnights, says, “Is that you or have they come to take me away?” Down Bad has a line that says, “How dare you think it’s romantic, leaving me safe and stranded.” In her song, New Romantics (1989 album), she sings, “Please leave me stranded. It’s so Romantic.” The song, The Smallest Man, has the lyrics, “But you are what you did.” The song, Innocent (Speak Now album), has the lyrics, “Who you are is not what you did.” Now, I’ll be the first to admit that some Swift fans can get carried away “linking” her songs and albums. That started, though, because it’s clear she does make reference her other work far too often for it to be coincidental. I think the references I made here are probably too specific to be coincidences (although it’s possible at least one of them is). I heard an interview with someone who works for some organization studies popular music. They’ve actually created a working group to study “inter-textual” references in Swift’s work.

Taylor has dipped into so many genres that it's incredible. Its frustrating that some only see her as this bubblegum pop princess but that is what happens when you start your career at 16 I guess. You can tell by the look on her face here that she really still feels this song. Im sure people have mentioned in comments what exactly this song is about... contrary to what some might believe, it's not about a lost lover. But "stolen lullabies" is a giveaway that it was about her stolen music. Folklore and Evermore would be the albums for you.

  • @JenniferDomitrovits-xu9df

Enjoyed your commentary! My interpretation of “miracle move-on drug”, in the context of the rest of the album, was diving into a new romantic relationship to try to get over an old one. But, as with many great songwriters, the line is open to multiple interpretations. 😊

You are going to lose your shit over Taylor Swift 😂 I'm 38 now and only really started getting into her full albums in 2019. I was SO ANGRY with myself when I realised that her overplayed radio hits (and even those have a few gems) only represent maybe a quarter of her catalogue. So on an album of say 18 tracks, she will have maybe 5 singles tops....of the other 13 songs, 2/3rds of them are in the realm of this quality of songwriting. I am not lying, I promise. Her latest project that you reacted on Fortnights to is a double album of 31 tracks. I can say with hand on heart that of the 31 tracks, I only have 1 permanent skip on the entire album. I maybe like 4 occasional skips if I am short of time, but I am not angry in any way if I don't skip those songs. Also, 2 or 3 that I listen to less frequently because they emotionally just hurt too much. I actually think Fortnight is one of the weaker songs in the album, and by no means is it a bad song. You are going to love her work, most specially from a song writer's perspective 🥰

Just a quick note in her vocals, it was fairly early on in her career that she had a readily big performance (I think an award show) that she had a very weak vocal performance on. Since then she has worked with a vocal trainer and it absolutely shows. I've been studied voice for over 20 years and I've sung in various internationally competitive choirs as well as done eisteddfods, etc., for ever. Swift has developed (obviously as she got older) one of the strongest alto voices in the pop/mainstream industry. She moves easily between her lower register and her falsetto and both sound incredibly good. She is also incredible at adding texture and nuance to her vocals. She also has world class, classical level breath control, phrasing and articulation. I exponentially prefer her voice to so many "pretty" vocalists who rarely challenge themselves to make their vocals interesting over the aims of just sounding pretty. I think of vocalists like Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey and Justin Bieber in this regard. It's either a belt, a nasal straight note, or a mumble. And it's oh so pretty and oh so boring (to me). Give me an Adele, Chappell Roan, Lady Gaga, Pink, Taylor Swift, Hozier, etc., any day over artist just doing everything they can to maintain an image over sound 😬

Subscribing; I love your thoughtfulness and intentionality. Only skimmed the comments, so sorry if this is a repeat of what others have said: Taylor and Lana are good friends. Check out their duet Snow on the Beach. Some got twisted because they couldn't hear/identify Lana too much on it; Lana then explained that was on purpose and that she intentionally sounded like Taylor and was woven in throughout, not just a verse. Jack Antonoff (of f.u.n. and currently The Bleachers) has been collaborating and producing for Taylor for years. The other musician is Aaron Dessner of The National. It's his studio in upstate New York where this was filmed during the pandemic. Taylor has said that Aaron is her musical soulmate. He's been writing a lot of the music and then Taylor always writes her own lyrics. Agree with others that Exile from Long Pond Sessions is a MUST; it's a duet with Justin Vernon of Bon Iver (remember it was pandemic filming when you see him in the video). So many other songs. Really, anything from folklore, evermore, and TTPD/Anthology. I have to go back and watch your Fortnight and Anti-Hero, but Fortnight is more poppy than most of the songs. A lot of it is more like this vibe.

I'm always nervous when people who are unfamiliar with Taylors music start off with the radio hits. Mostly because her album deep cuts are usually less poppy and can impress those who only see her as a shallow teenage hit machine. Imagine my relief when not only do you not carelessly write her off but you also LISTEN to the lyrics. So many people skim over the meaning and fail to recognise the intelligence she possesses. I love your philosophical musings and super smart insights. You're like every Swiftie's dream reactor. I'm looking forward to more Taylor videos from you. Oh and on a side note: that one line from your own song was great. I'll have to check your stuff out.
