- How To Change a Cabin Air Filter on a 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 or 2019 F-150 / Raptor.
Should you change your cabin air filter yourself or leave it for the dealer to do? Watch this video and find out of you are confident to do the job on your own. Also learn about a bonus filter for some vehicles and how to maintain it.
Thanks Ford for making this more difficult than it needs to be.
Removing paneling for a part that needs to be regularly changed is just poor design choice
@@johnnyx6654 Where else would you propose they put it?
@@TravelingStacker it’s not about where it is on the car, it’s how do you get to it. Any consumable part should be easily accessible. If in order to change your oil you had to remove the tire, that’s bad design. You know you’ll have to replace the oil and pretty regularly too, same with air filters. Don’t get me started on how to change the oil on this thing
@@johnnyx6654 So true. The cabin filter slot just has to be a couple inches lower and there would be no need to unscrew any paneling. Just pop down the glove compartment and then you'd easily get to it. What sucks is that I just know the tabs are going to break after a few filter changes.
I have changed cabin air filters on several models. Easy to do. Open the glove compartment. Pop the filter out and replace. No screws no trim to remove.
Worth noting you should clean out any debris in the filter compartment and install the new filter with the air flow indicator arrow pointing down. Seems obvious but if you weren’t paying attention taking it out, you may have to look up which way it goes. (Unless it only fits one way? - which should be noted as well)
Thanks for the video.
Real easy filter change on my Raptor. Thanks Mike Pallans. I think I grew up down the street from you in Coral Springs btw.
She inserted the new filter upside-down. :D Most filters have an arrow on one end showing the direction of air flow, which should be pointing down when you install it. When you do that, the high ends on the front and back of the filter will be on top. I also wouldn't use a screwdriver on that thin dash trim piece, which is probably going to crack it. Better to use the right tool which is a plastic trim pry tool available from auto parts stores and Amazon. Slide that pry tool under one end of the trip piece and slide it from side to side to pop it free.
Thank you for the video made it super easy.
That's way too hard....:-) It should be positioned so just dropping the glove box down provides for access to the filter.
Much easier on my Toyota sedans than my Ford F150!
Thanks for this! I had no idea how to remove the wood trim piece in front of the 7mm screws on my Platinum
The first video I came across that had a Raptor. The most difficult part to remove is the trim piece covering the bolts. You made it look like you just place a screwdriver under the lip on the right side and pull up to get the piece out. Completely misleading! Guess what happens when doing that with the carbon fiber trim piece? It shatters! When I checked the video again you placed the screwdriver then it cuts to the part coming out. You didn't show how to remove that part at all. To remove that it takes at least 1 angled panel removal tool to work your way across the bottom and pop the 5 clips that hold it in place.
Thanks!
"So easy...even a BEAUTIFUL MODEL can do it!"
ain't that great get real
you can update the title, 2015-2020 are the same gen
Here's a tip......once you get the two 7mm screws out, reach into the compartment and put your hand BEHIND the panel, grasp it and pull it straight out towards you. It will pop out. Don't try to pry it from the front, you might mess it up. Also....no need to disconnect the glove box switch either.....just set the panel off to the side while you swap filters.
Very nice
Great, helpful video
Bout to change mine today
Thank you! Made the task easy.
Great tip! Love that a chic changed it!
Your video made this job a breeze. Pun fully intended!
Checking the seat filters every so often is a good idea
My 2019 f150 third brake light was leaking and the water mixed with the adhesive and now I have a gosh awful ammonia/cat pee smell that reeks. I am trying this
Nothing like a good cat pee story - to tie together this filter change puzzle - boo-ya! - well stated!
Great video! Thank you! Definitely use a basic trim removal kit ($7) for that wood/fiber cover piece. It was scary to pop out the first time. But the video here helped me see where the clips are so I could go use the pry energy. Also, there are little white clips that popped off during this process. Be on the look out for that - they are easy to put back, but if you lose one - would be a pain. The new filter airflow arrows should face down, but also fold those bottom tabs on the filter in the UP position, just don’t fold them under. I think it makes a better air seal that way.
UN-freaking believable. My Range Rover takes less than a minute with no tools. I think instead of this puzzle, just going to get a new lease.
Wow I never knew it was so easy! Thanks for teaching us how to do this!! I love the Raptor!!!
For a 2011 f150 is the air cabin the same place?
No. 2011 doesn't have a cabin air filter. The f150s started using them in 2015
Don't forget the accelerator and brake filters!
No wonder why the book says to see your dealer! In my wife's Lexus, you just drop the glove box out by squeezing and then unsnap the filter cover to remove. Leave it to US manufacturers to make things more difficult than need be!
No wonder these filters are neglected
It shouldn't be that hard to get to.
Sorry, but the top glove box fixture does not "pop" off as shown. Those clips will not let go! Ford has over-engineered this to the point of ridiculousness. No wonder labor on this should be easy job is $50 +.
did the 2017 ford expedition not have a filter. the chart does not show a location
wow my AC wasnt blowing put air so i cleaned it and wow big differnce
Great job from a Dealer. Even a girl can do this!!!! :)
I always tell people if it doesn't say Ford or Lincoln.... I refuse to drive it!
Recorded horizontally:)
Thank you for the information. very easy. One recommendation though, as usual in all filters check the proper position for air flow. Check the arrow, where it is pointing.
Now I change my own! And who knew about the filter under the seat?!
This will work for 2020 f150s as well.
What a ridiculous pain in the ass
True...my old F-150 was easy...just open the glove box, squeeze in the sides, it drops the whole way down and the filter is right there. I don't understand why they design it where you are required to remove trim pieces held on with brittle plastic clips to do something part of normal maintenance. But if you think this is bad, look up how to change one on a 2017 Lincoln Continental. The dealership wanted over $300 to replace it on my wife's car so I declined and did it myself. After 2 hours of work, I realized why they charge so much. It's literally asinine the way they designed something to require so much work to change something that is supposed to be changed every 20k miles. After I ended up with my wife's car all apart, I decided to modify the glove box so I never have to do it all again. And it's all manufacturers. I think they do it on purpose just so you have to take it to the dealership.
🤜🏾🤛🏽
I could not verify that the air flow arrow was pointing down on the new filter when she put it in?
Not too concerned with the details are they?
New filters don't have arrows, either way works
This filter is bs in my opinion. But thank you for the info
If you don't really feel it's necessary, then just take out the filter and be done with it. Old vehicles never had them. But then in older vehicles, I've seen many debris-plugged heater cores, too. A filter prevents debris from blocked air passage through it. But suit yourself.
You have to love when a female works on cars
It’s just a filter
