What is the problem with Elrond kissing his mother-in-law ? ROP has a load of problems, but how is that one of them ? I don't think this show is for anyone in particular - certainly not for those of us who know the books; IMO, it's basically just a commercial for Amazon. Amazon is hugely wealthy - spending a billion dollars on ROP may seem like a safe investment, even if ROP bombs.
The movie "Kingdom of Heaven" depicted one of the best sieges I've seen in movies with the Siege of Jerusalem and there, the Ayyubids discovered one part of the wall that surrounds Jerusalem is weak since it was formerly a gate but was now covered up. In a single scene, the Ayyubid soldier explained that the particular wall is weak due to having used smaller bricks to cover the former gate and it would be the perfect part to get into the city as it is weaker than the bricks on the original wall. So, they concentrated their attack there. If RoP had competent writers, rather than make Celebrimbor say that this part of the wall is weak and show the orcs hammering the nails with chains from the ravager, write a scene were Adar was telling the orcs to concentrate after learning it by interrogation from a captured Eregion elf so it would make sense why the orcs knew and it make Celebrimbor's statement more believable rather than he just mentions it.
A day may come, in the cold twilight at the ending of our age, when the Light of the West grows dim and the memory of Middle Earth is perverted beyond rescue. A day may come when the tales of our heroic ancestors are lost, and the truths they fought for lie shattered and broken in the dust. A day is coming when none shall sing the songs of the Valar, and the only music to be heard will be the bleating self-reverential yawps of tiny men with weak minds and no imagination. A dark day, when the heroic tales that inspired our ancestors and drove them to seek perfection will all have been forgotten. A sad day, when themes of goodness and justice, chivalry, purity and sacrifice are ridiculed and perverted at every turn by those who would deny that such things still exist in the hearts of men. But today is NOT that day! A day may come, my friends, when one cannot tell woman from man or man from woman, and when all love is a perversion of love. A cold, heartless day when the hole-bylters are rendered holeless, good and evil are indistinguishable, and the whole of Middle Earth is left soulless, heartless and meaningless. An unholy day, when the author's intent is subverted, the principles on which Middle Earth was founded are tortured and twisted into caricatures, and the author's very Catholic Faith itself is mocked, lashed, dragged through the streets in shame and nailed to the cutting-room floor. But today is not THAT day! A day may come when the rich and privileged can buy and sell the cultural heritage of millions for a few farthings, and the noble tales of our great ancestors will have become naught but triflings and tales to sell beer, pickup trucks and laundry detergent. A day may come when womb-men and wombless-men alike will have forgotten the meaning of heroism, and what it truly means to "be a man"; when strength of bicep has become more important than strength of character, and swift, sharp swords are deemed more valuable than a swift mind or a sharp exchange of dialogue. A hopeless, heartless day when none dare lift their voices to hail beauty, truth or excellence lest they be damned for insulting the plain, the insincere and the incompetent. A pointlessly gilded day, when all shall exalt the Mighty, catapault the Message, and decry any recalcitrant who averts their eyes from the sad stage-managed spectacle ... while all about them, every precious tiny thing which could give meaning to life lies abandoned in dust and derision. The show runners thought it was more cost effective to make a lore breaking episode to create thousands of of online trolls than including a couple in the siege.
The main problem with the show isn't even the inconsistency with Tolkien's lore, it is its own internal inconsistency. For example, the Dwarf lieutenant who says that the army needs to be recalled because Durin's father is attempting to dig alone into the Mithril. This character, at this point, cites concern about "unleashing the beast" This same character came with a host of dwarves to dig at the Mithril at the end of the previous episodes, and were scared off by some bats, obviously not perturbed by any such idea. All of a sudden he IS worried, despite previously not being worried; the only new event is the king relenting to send dwarves to war and insisting that they DO dig, none of which has relevance to the state of existence of some purported creature. It's not the only example of character seeming to forget their stated motivations. Adar in the previous episode expresses no shock whatsoever when Galadriel reveals that Halbrand is Sauron. Instead he says "as I suspected..." If he suspected as such, why would he send the very person he suspected to be Sauron to go and find Sauron? Likewise, Galadriel shows almost no reaction to the revelation that Halbrand (whom she specifically told Celebrimbor NOT to allow admittance to Eregion), has somehow managed to go back to Eregion. The narrative is so confusing that not even the actors can make sense of it
Yeah I try and judge it more on its internal consistency than Tolkien's lore. Both because of those who keep defending the show and accusing lore enthusiasts of only complaining about the lore because "it doesn't need to follow the lore consistently!" and to prove the show is just bad on its own merits. In all fairness to Galadriel, she knows she didn't tell Celebrimbor or anyone else in Eregion that Halbrand in Sauron. She's been trying all season to get back there because she was sure he'd get back there. This part is internally consistent. The problem, however, is she's just STUPID because she never told Celebrimbor Halbrand is Sauron. She simply told him "we are not to treat with him." That was HER fault. She should have said something. And Elrond, likewise, should have said something to Celebrimbor before he left. The show at least implies Elrond didn't know Halbrand was Sauron, but he knew enough to understand that the rings likely could have been tainted, so he should have informed Celebrimbor before he left as well. Then there's the absolutely STUPID way they have handled Ar Pharazon stealing the throne from Miriel. It doesn't make any sense that he can just walk up to the eagle and then suddenly he's king. The Palantir also doesn't have any internal logic either. It constantly shows Miriel the drowning of Numenor, shows Elendil something totally different, and then Pharazon sees Sauron? Why is it so inconsistent?
@@jrconway3 The entirely plotline of Season 2 is sustained on the fact that Galadriel did not tell Celebrimbor that Halbrand was Sauron defacto. most of the dramatic tension in the RoP comes consistently from characters acting stupidly. You would think Adar would rue having let Sauron go when he actually him in his captivity... but no, somehow he just says "it is as I suspected".
@@gabrielaegerter3451 It would have been more internally consistent, and consistent with the lore, had Celebrimbor been the one most distrusting of "Annatar" all season, and it was primarily his smiths who fell for him. I know in some parts of the legendarium Celebrimbor did become deceived by him, but that's a bit inconsistent. At the very least, he distrusted Annatar less than Galadriel and Gilgalad did. Adar is... the best argument I can make for Adar letting Sauron go, if he suspected Halbrand was Sauron from the beginning, is that he knew he couldn't kill Sauron. Because he already tried it once and failed. So he was hoping for a better means to do so. MAYBE Halbrand hinted at the three elven rings to convince Adar to try using them, but I don't think Halbrand actually told him about the elven rings. The only thing he said is Galadriel was working with Sauron after Adar mentioned the line of "mind over flesh" or whatever the common term Sauron keeps using throughout the show. Oh, yeah, and there's the lore in the show itself about the rings. Galadriel insists the rings aren't corrupted. However, given Celebrimbor started quoting Sauron's lines when Halbrand never told him those lines, clearly there was some manipulation going on there. Its very clear the show is depicting all of the rings work similar to the One Ring, so the three elven rings MUST be corrupted as well.
@@jrconway3 No, nothing in this show is consistent or can be consistent with Tolkien's writings. The show was based on a rotten base that can't hold its structure. It makes no sense for Celebrimbor to be suspicious of him because he wasn't like that in the story. He was deceived by him, but there were a few others like Galadriel who were suspicious of him and argued against his intentions for the duration of his stay in Eregion. Sauron left Eregion while Celebrimbor and his Smiths were still deceived by him for the most part. It's only after making the One Ring that they became aware of who he really was.

I don't watch this season. But if amazon wipes out the woke and divers mistakes in battle scenes, that gives me a little bit hope for season three of this fan fiction fairy tale. The series costed too much to shut it down and loose the face for amazon. And right now it's on the first place on their streaming platform, here. Pretty easy if xou're the Lord of your own Statistics😂😂😂
These people are insane. Now someone has to go to court to stop this utter mockery. Dear Christopher you must go to court. We cannot suffer this torture . Tolkien's spirit will never forgive. Please.
Christopher Tolkien died in 2020. The rest of the family took Amazon's deal, cashed the big check, and probably could not care less about what came out later.
People will be reading Tolkien's books decades after this show has been consigned to the digital void i.e. a forgotten rack in one of AWS' secondary server farms.
"The dwarves did come to the aid of Eregion" I assume the dwarves are in fact going to come to the aid of Eregion, they're just going to be delayed a bit longer. In the lore, they only came to the aid of Eregion as Eregion was nearly defeated by Sauron's forces. They basically just give enough room for Elrond to escape, with some of the elves escaping with them into Kazadum (presumably to head towards Lorien; yeah Lorinand is Lorien) while the rest headed north to Imladris. This show is not lore consistent, but I think they are still going to have the dwarves arrive later. They just wanted to "subvert expectations" by setting up a "Gandalf arrives with the Rohirrim moment" that is abruptly cut short by the dwarves not actually arriving. Interestingly enough, there has been no mention of Lorien whatsoever this entire series.
"Interestingly enough, there has been no mention of Lorien whatsoever this entire series." Its just another instance where the showrunners have no idea about the lore. They want to sell this as "LOTR" to fans but can't even do basic research. Tolkien wrote that iot was a combined force of dwarves and Lorien elves (led by Durin V and Prince Amroth) who issued from the west gate of Moria to strike Sauron's forces in the rear. They moved as quickly as they could, given Sauron's surprise attack.
My immediate question also was "how did they know about the thinnest part of the wall". During helm's deep wormtongue had told saruman about the wall. Who told about this?! Ugh, whh bother🙄
Which he could have done in a hug, handshake, pretence of falling down. All manner of ways but no, he kissed her,. because 'tards are obsessed with shipping characters and taking huge dumps on Tolkien's grave.
The orc watching her can see him hand off the lock pick. So, nice attempt at simping, but reality says this is just ROP writers trying to get some viewers via shock, since they are losing them otherwise.
Which makes no sense, because he isn't hiding the lockpick in his mouth, and Adar and his orcs do not trust Galadriel or Elrond. There is no reason for Adar not to be watching for exactly the sort of trick Elrond pulled and no reason for a heavy kiss laid on someone else to distract Adar from the fact that Elrond is now missing his pin. It was calculated to deliver shock factor to the audience, not to the orcs. That makes it fan service, which makes it shipping.
This episode was amazing, the episode should be called 'distractions' to educate the people that don't realise the Galadriel kiss was a distraction. The seige was really well done, I was hooked, I don't understand why a couple of peeps on youtube are claiming the pacing is slow, they must have ADHD.
the siege was totally non sense. There was no clear strategy from both sides and orcs just went for the walls instead of going for the gates, and why the f should you have an explosive bucket right next to your most important siege weapon?? like wtf??

Is it bad that i cheered when certain "good guys" died in this episode? Also nearly fell of my seat laughing when Sauron claimed to be a victim!
Let's hope we get more of Jack Black as Al Pharaohson!
The Tolken Estate are fully behind this train-wreck of a show. Simon Tolkien is an advisor on it.
“Ultimate horror often paralyses memory in a merciful way.” HP Lovecraft
So, before long, I will have forgotten all about this show.
People will be reading Tolkien's books decades after this show has been consigned to the digital void i.e. a forgotten rack in one of AWS' secondary server farms.
"The dwarves did come to the aid of Eregion"
I assume the dwarves are in fact going to come to the aid of Eregion, they're just going to be delayed a bit longer.
No, based on the next episode they won't come to their aid. This show is a complete mess.
@@rpgadventurer32 how can it be based on the next episode if it doesn't exist yet
@@UliaSamsonova True. Nobody should make any assumptions based on logic, where ROP is concerned.
Every episode is dumb in rings of power.
I hate how they made Sauron such a talker. Basically they took all characters, no matter what kind of being they are, and made them like a human.
hes called sauron the deciever for a reason
Having him talk is one thing but having him talk like a passive aggressive petulant teenager to get his way is something else.
I love the rings of power, my insomnia needs it every week!
What unholy pestilence have you brought upon our eyes?
My immediate question also was "how did they know about the thinnest part of the wall". During helm's deep wormtongue had told saruman about the wall. Who told about this?! Ugh, whh bother🙄
The actress of Miridiel, just wondered what she thought when sche read the script for this episeode
Really enjoying your reviews, insightful and entertaining, what more could be asked.
None of you guys state that he kissed her to get close enough to hand off a lock pick.
Which he could have done in a hug, handshake, pretence of falling down.
All manner of ways but no, he kissed her,. because 'tards are obsessed with shipping characters
and taking huge dumps on Tolkien's grave.
The orc watching her can see him hand off the lock pick.
So, nice attempt at simping, but reality says this is just ROP writers trying to get some viewers via shock, since they are losing them otherwise.
Why did I know beforehand RoP fans would justify it like this? ...
@@sarahgould5435 which makes it disgusting cringe.
This episode was amazing, the episode should be called 'distractions' to educate the people that don't realise the Galadriel kiss was a distraction. The seige was really well done, I was hooked, I don't understand why a couple of peeps on youtube are claiming the pacing is slow, they must have ADHD.
i'll take ADHD over pure retardation any day of the week please.
the siege was totally non sense. There was no clear strategy from both sides and orcs just went for the walls instead of going for the gates, and why the f should you have an explosive bucket right next to your most important siege weapon?? like wtf??
@@cdaffern4707 the kiss a distraction from what? The pin he shoved into her hand AFTER the long kiss? In clear view in direct sight line to the orcs?
And go to critcal drinker and watch his analysis of the battle in comparison to helms derp...and see why its just mess...maybe it looks nice on the surface but only if you stop thinking one inch to deep...
Every shot is txhe same length and moves at the same pace. That’s a mechanical thing you can measure. It feels slow because there is no dynamics or even any cadence in the shot rhythm. It’s insane once you notice it, kills all pacing and heightened emotions
"A couple of peeps" 😂😂😂😂
The language make it sound like you are making a poor attempt to sound like the critical drinker.
No, I'm my own person, thanks.
There are many bloggers and commentators analyzing this show.
The fact that most of them are highly critical is purely due to the shortcomings in the show.

It was a great episode
You need to stop watching and let us watch and enjoy it (and yes,I read the books)
Nothing about this is as bad as you make it
No one who cares about Tolkien's work would say this.
Opinion disregarded.
@@JoeTheUberGeek Wow,so entitled. You think you're the one who cares about Tolkien and not people who put their entire life savings on the line to produce a tv series (good or bad, as it may be)???
If you are a part of this show, support this show or actively attack anyone who is against this show decimating Tolkien's legacy,
you not only don't care about the legendarium, you actively hate Tolkien.
End of discussion.
Okay first name, last name with 4 numbers. Def not a fake account.
I agree, enjoyed this season much more
You don't have to watch it if you don't like it. Grow up.
Well to be honest, considering the level of utter disgrace it is the her death scene is the best part of the whole 2 seasons show. First shows Sauron as the evil bastard powerful that he should had been in first place, only if I just could remember the name of this made up character and that is one of the main problems of this show there is no emotional involvement with characters because they are bad written.
I wouldn't exactly call what he did powerful, though...
@@nyx5376 wow! With a twist of his hand he can do that a a avoiding the others to detect it was his doing the death of that character I don't remember the name, that is power and of a very evil nature
@@nyx5376 It was only the mere twist of his hand...
@@marlonabreu4188 that's not powerful for someone like Sauron. Just a little magic trick. I don't think you understand the magnitude of who and what Sauron is, if you call something like that a showcase of his powerful nature.
You're right about it being evil though. But it still pales in comparison to what he already did and will be doing.
@@nyx5376 Sure is just a trick but is glimpse of what he can do very easy like breathing to us or like blink an eye, it is very subtle and malicious that is Sauron he doesn't need to show all his power it is a waste of energy but Sauron, killed by his own Orcs that is real misunderstanding....and that is why I do no see this show.
Too loud, lower the volume
It's fine on my end.
You just have to turn it down your end.
@@JoeTheUberGeek I see, like Amazon Prime you do not get the hint, got you👌
Its a great great show, people should watch with patience and should not compare with Peter Jackson's work..its great in its own way... the excellent writing, epic visuals and mindblowing performances are key aspects which makes ROF season 2 a force to reckon with!!! Please watch the show who haven't, you will love it❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🙏🙏
it's not. and the reason people compare it with jackson is because these hacks have been ripping off the jackson trilogy the whole time. it's completely derivative.
