We love sourdough tortillas. I triple the recipe, cut the dough into balls and freeze them. When we want tortillas, I take some out of the freezer, let them thaw, rolls them out and cook. They are delicious!!!! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you! I am making some now. My family is from Mexico, traditionally the press is used on corn tortillas and the rolling pin on flour. Greetings from WA state!
1/2 C sourdough starter 1/4 C fat 1/3 C water 1/2 tsp salt 1 2/3 C flour Whisk to combine. Knead a few mins to bring dough together. Let ferment for 8 hrs or for quick 30 mins. Divide into 8 equal pieces. Roll out with rolling pin or use tortilla press, it should be thin. Cook on dry pan, 20-30 seconds on first side, turn and cook 20-30 seconds on second side, turn again and it should start to puff.
Those little ones would make great street tacos! I think the presses work pretty well for corn because they need to be thicker. I’m definitely going to try your recipe!
Hi Julie, thank you for the fermented grains info and the tips. As you made these I was reminded of the time the Hispanic ladies here taught me how to make tortillas in my hands. It was hilariously awkward at first and we laugh so hard. They kept encouraging me to kerp trying and I finally got it down. Its pretty fast once the technique is down. Thanks for supplying us with inspiration ~Patty~
My family loves Tortillas. They eat them with everything. I’m going to try this. I hope I can make them turn out. I’ll save a lot of money making these. So kind to share.
Thanks, going to try this recipe. I really like the idea of a long ferment. I also like how the dough isn't sticky. Looks easier to work with. For the tortilla price I've used parchment paper in between and I've doubled up on the tortillas in the tortilla press, also started off in the press then finished rolling it out so it starts off nice and round.
I’m really enjoying this collaboration. My MIL only made corn tortillas with the press. She rolled out the flour ones. Thank you so much for this recipe
YUM tortillas. Love them. This has been a great collab. Learning so much about sourdough. think I need to get one of those presses. Thanks for sharing with us.
I will certainly want to give these a try. These might be a good option for one of the recipe suggestions that Cassandra from "becoming a farm girl" suggests with her chicken corn soup.
What a blessing it is to watch you in the kitchen again! I will have to try and makes these once I figure out the sour dough starter. I haven’t had much luck in the past. You made it look so simple. Thank you
The Mexican wife of our farm hand taught us to make empanadas one Saturday. She used plastic shopping bags cut in press-sized circles to line the tortilla press and it worked quite well to keep them from sticking to the press. Your's look delicious! Thank you for sharing! 😊
Your information about how you ferment the grain because it's easier for you to digest is interesting. I have to be gluten-free but what you said makes sense to me.
We live in New Mexico so tortillas are a staple for us. The small ones would be perfect for soft tacos. I love being able to use my sourdough for this aa a change up with flavor. Thank you for your video.
Hello Julie! So excited to see your tortilla recipe. We love tortillas and I will be starting the sourdough journey for the first time next month after watching this collab!
I think the tortillas press is more for corn tortillas. I usual do roll out my flour tortillas and most of them are in the shape of Africa or South America. Seldom are they round. Still taste pretty good.
These turned out fantastic! I'm so glad I found your channel, I didn't have to measure in grams?! Thank you so much, my family really enjoyed them and the best part is that they are good for you❤ I'm brand spanking new to SD starter and it has been quite intimidating intimidating but you made it very easy and took all of the guessing away.
This recipe worked perfectly on my first try ever using discard. Honestly, I don’t think I need to get to the bread. I might just stay here with the tortillas.
I love knowing I can ferment the tortilla dough! I’m the same way and need the fermentation to help me digest. I’m totally going to try this recipe. Appreciate both videos you’ve shared this month!
This one is a must do for me today..make sourdough everything else, but tortillas never cross my mind...total awesome sauce..😀🌯🌮 plus I love how you use a old crate/toolbox for cutting board, kitchen tools, etc...
I love this recipe! I have had the same results with the tortilla press, very frustrating. Next time I will try just rolling them out. I noticed that you didn’t have any flour down or use parchment paper on the press. This dough must be beautiful to work with. I have only done it with the 8 hour ferment before. I will try the quick version next time. Thanks for sharing!
I made your recipe today for dinner. My dough was stickier than yours so I kept adding flour. They were thicker than yours, but still good. Next time will be even better. Thank you for your video!
Thank you for the tip on fermenting the grains first! I will definitely have to start doing that. I only use gluten free flours (I have celiac) and usually use whole grains that would definitely benefit from fermenting.
I’ll definitely have to give this a try. Though I may need a bigger jar for my sourdough if they’re a hit, because my family goes through flour tortillas at a ridiculous speed!

I think my husband and I would both tolerate fermented recipes better like how you were explaining. Thank you Julie!!!
Thank-you for this recipe!

Your information about how you ferment the grain because it's easier for you to digest is interesting. I have to be gluten-free but what you said makes sense to me.
These look delicious. I’m with you I like the large thin ones. 💜 thanks for sharing, I’ll let mine sit for the 8 hours. I have gut issues also.
I’d say the sourdough tortillas are much better than store bought. Now I want a sourdough starter!
Just printed this! I'll have to try this on Sunday!
