Great Video. I’m 71 but Eric is the guy I always wanted to sit behind in Algebra class. Thanks for your content, Serge! Jim in Oregon

He calls it ‘signal chain hierarchy’. Glad I found out.

🔥 - indeed. Putting the LUT on too early defeats the perpose of having log footage in the first place. You basically need to treat the FCPX Colour workflow like a DVR Node tree

Very helpful. I am going to start using LOG and LUT with FCP after watching your video the other day.

This is a great video, Serge, clear and concise; I consistently bookmark your FCPX tutorials more than anybody else! Question for you on this, I am not seeing the standard camera LUTs using the Custom LUT function, but they do appear using the standard method in the inspector. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?

So the workflow when I colour correct each footage in the inspector tab and then put adjustment layer above with conversion lut applied on it (e.g. phantom lut) is wrong?

  • @PhotoBooth72

great video, what about if your using an adjust layer with the colour correction on this which is above the video clips on the timeline. Would that still apply as above the custom lut or does it need to be above in the effects window? I have been applying the LUT as you said in the info window on import and then applying the colour correction to the adjust layer as most of the clips are shot the same so this just speeds things up.

Hello Serge, may I ask you a diff question? I find it difficult to use voice over. I can’t set the input gain, its grey. My mic, rode wireless ME is recognized, but no voice is recorded. I have fcp 10.8.1. I can use usbc and trrs cables. Pls advise, Frans 😀🙏

Oh no! I use the info window to add camera luts to all my shots BEFORE they are even in a timeline because I like to go through the shots and add favorite clips to put in the timeline later. I think you even showed this as a workflow suggestion once. Now what? I have to view the shots in log? Or add the luts and then remove them when I put them in the timeline? Any suggestions for my workflow?

If you’re happy with the way your footage looks, keep doing what you’re doing. But, if you have a clip you just can’t get looking right, try using a Custom LUT effect

I do it this way also. It saves a lot of time. I hoped that it could even be a setting to activate when importing clips.

Thanks Serge. Is there a way to take a built in camera LUT (e.g. the canon log 2 LUT) and apply it using the custom LUT? I’m thinking the LUT file should be accessible no?
