Those are the old predecessors, like the Springfield town hall had, definitely not later ones like one of my stomping grounds had. (They had 7002Ts and they were installed in 1989 or 1990)

Those ARE 7002's. They were distributed by Spectronics, and probably have a different model number, but they were manufactured by Wheelock, and not a knockoff.
Very interesting. It's because two of my schools had modular buildings added in 1996. They both had their own small ESL fire alarm systems with Wheelock MT horn/strobes, ESL smokes and RSG T-bar pulls. But one of them I believe no longer has the ESL panel, and is tied into the main building's Simplex system (4010 tied into an old 4208 panel.)

They look like y002T's from the appearance and they have the same style strobes. Maybe Wheelock rebranded them for Spectronics there are a lot of interbrandings in the fire alarm industry. Some Faraday horns are rebranded as Simplex and so on
There was a frat, who as a pledging requirement, had new members pull an alarm in our dorm at obscure hours in the night. The sound was slightly more annoying than this.

Late, but since all the power goes to the strobe, it causes the horn to skip.
Probably an induced current from the discharge, the horns don't cut out but get momentarily louder.
