I finished this game when I was 11 and it gave me an unrealistically high expectation for how games should be made. Best game ever Edit: Wow great response! I made a video of my impressions of the remake, it's doing quite well :3
It's a shame Mafia 2 was released unfinished with a LOT of content and features cut from it. I still love Mafia 2 but it never had the quirkiness of Mafia 1. (I won't even discuss mafia 3)
@@Simul8GamingIn Mafia 2 for details I like the snow effects on cars. When you have a lot of snow on car and drive fast or crash, the snow fall of the roof. And the pin locking the car. Great featured. In Mafia 3 only thing I like is the car lights when you revving the car it lights up a little like in real life on old cars.
Jopa O_O Mafia 2 had enormous potential, but compared to Mafia 1, It was too short with lot of unused opportunities imo (I would wish a Mafia 2 like graphics and details with Mafia 1 storyline and amount of missions). Still, both great games.

Another great detail are Trams, if you kill the driver, the whole tramway System in city part will collapse. Cuz that stopped tram wont dissapear. All trams are mounted in the city. They dont dissapear or respawn.

I had the intention to watch the full credits roll on both since the list in Mafia is comparable to a feature film. I gave up after several minutes on GTA. (At studio Leeds) Mafia is the same type of game - open world, maybe more story driven and more grown up, but the scope is comparable. However the manpower just isn't there to build and test to similar level of polish. The team therefore needs to use its resources carefully in a way that will enhance the experience. The cinematics, especially when coupled with facial mocap can deliver great dividends here. The bikes are also a great news, I truly look forward for having them in the game ( would also love to have bicycles, sprinting from morello's thugs on one would be great option). However mostly I am worried that the changes to the storyline will hurt the game and that the city will be reshaped into unusable generic blob.

NPCs running out of ammo is one of my favorite details. I don't think I've ever seen it in any other game. A way to improve it further is to have NPCs actively seek ammo during a fight. Or look for other ways to kill you, like getting in a car and try to run you over if out of ammo and can't find any.
Probably because they really wanted players to be able to get the most out of the amazing physics and simulation handling. Using a wheel for a game like GTA would be worthless.
Also when you shoot a driver in a gangster car, it can activate the horn (because his head is on the steering wheel), but it's very rare, after years of playing Mafia it happened only a few times....
I also found that most drivers will steer to one side and accelerate slightly when killed. but didn't include this in my vids as the later GTA's do it too.
Rockstar don't go this far with details anymore and this is a old game which is sad it's like these current games are going backwards instead of building on to it more.
Hate to breake it to ya but.. u just old, me to and we feel nostalgic or maby you to young to remmember what Mafia1 was, it is a clunky game- GTA5 is more advanced in almost all ways. Still love Mafia tho :)

I noticed you missed mentioning that cops have 2 deadly force levels. One where they'll only use pistols, and the second where they will use automatic weapons
that gas station clerk has so much details in his animation so much better than Mafia 2 and even 3 cuz Mafia 3 doesn't even allow players to refill their cars fuel
I played this game first time in this year. Because my pc can't run younger games. And now when i tried some games found this and it's gone instantly to my top 2 after GTA San andreas. It's amazing this game older then me with 2 years but i can say these games were the best.
This is the game of my childhood and i probably have the most time spent on it among all of the singleplayer games and i have never noticed the gas going down faster when the engine is shot (maybe it's becausei run out off it once :D ), also never seen the gas station clerk light up the cig...very nicely made video, i hope that they'll keep this features and details in remake too also 5:49, that's how i imagine BLM protests rn o.o

yall are all dumb for blaming hangar 13 for the mess of mafia 3. while yes, they are somewhat responsible for the mess that was mafia 3, most of it is because of the publishers, which rushed the game out to the mess we had, not to mention the constant change in games, ideas and developers. everyone casts the blame on hangar 13 and labels them as a shitty company and while some blame can be lead on them, many things were out of their hand. Take 2 loves to rush out games, as seen with Mafia 2, which had a range of unused content that could have been added and fleshed out the game much more if time was given to do so. the same can be said with mafia 3, which went under a range of changes as mentioned earlier, including how it was made into a new game at the time before being scrapped and turned back to mafia 3

The only thing what’s missing in Definitive Edition is when Tommy gets killed during the game, the camera shows at someone who killed him before the game over screen appears.

its amazing how many details this game from the early 2000s has that would still be almost unique to modern games
For a 2002 game it was fucking amazingly detailed. So many interesting minor details like these make the game so interactive and realistic.
They did it before Rockstar made damage in GTA IV

yall are all dumb for blaming hangar 13 for the mess of mafia 3. while yes, they are somewhat responsible for the mess that was mafia 3, most of it is because of the publishers, which rushed the game out to the mess we had, not to mention the constant change in games, ideas and developers. everyone casts the blame on hangar 13 and labels them as a shitty company and while some blame can be lead on them, many things were out of their hand. Take 2 loves to rush out games, as seen with Mafia 2, which had a range of unused content that could have been added and fleshed out the game much more if time was given to do so. the same can be said with mafia 3, which went under a range of changes as mentioned earlier, including how it was made into a new game at the time before being scrapped and turned back to mafia 3
tj.l I don’t think insulting would be the right answer.... you may be right about the whole publisher things, but that’s something I’ve never even gotten into, therefore I barely even know anything about the publishers of games. That’s something I’ll research about in the future. However, that doesn’t give the whole blame on the publishers, im sure a lot of it is still on Hangar 13....

The only thing what’s missing in Definitive Edition is when Tommy gets killed during the game, the camera shows at someone who killed him before the game over screen appears.
Great video dude. Mafia 1 is love. But from which part in the game is ur last clip, the part where that NPC is pissing in the toilet. I am not aware of it even though I have played this game for years! Is it from the steamboat mission, where u kill the councillor?
