@@No-vq1iv Yes there are a number of differences. v1.0 has proper eyeballs in cutscenes and you're allowed to use the shortcut in the race. however v1.1+ made the main menu a bit better and added cheat codes. but 1.0 is still my favourite.
The bartender scene with the whiskey and ceiling light trick is priceless. Imagine the attention to detail put into this game. And it's quite an old game. I grew up with this.
You know, what is funny? We call it secrets nowadays, but if we consider, how are people lazy with games today, 20 years ago, those "secrets" meant developers were just making a great game, where those secrets were considered regular and expectable content every developer should have add to their game.
This is why I respect the original above the Definitive Edition. All these tiny things devs decided to make deliberately or by accident - also I just loved the Free Ride EXTREME mode after the base game was done. Added plenty of more to do!
In Créme de la Créme, if you are skilled enough driver, you can pit maneuver Morello's car before he enters airport and if you hit them correctly enough, it gets stuck on the elevated ground next to the road. Since their car is low, they get stuck and you can just shoot them up to pieces. There is no cutscene, you just kill Morello, his companion and you are told to go back to Salieri's/Lucas. And you avoid both airport chase or the bridge chase. (Steam version of the game) Also don't kill Yellow Pete, go visit him before The Finale of The Death of Art, there's a cutscene with dialogue about Paulie's death and you can get whatever guns you want / need for the mission. (Steam version of the game)
In ordinary routine you can visit toilet in thiat motel, the priest you can shoot the bucket on the top of the church and it will hit a worker down there on the street, Lucas 1 you can steal the car and drive around. You can clip through the texture of the fence by driving the way to salieris storage facility on the railroad - after you take the mission and arrive to the place - the AI spawns in the car and script will fight with your driving input. If you drop your weapon in election campaign after shooting the lock - police will let you walk away. etc. This game is amazing

1:44 Ordinary routine - there is one more way how to get into motel. Instead of climbing crates up, you simply shoot toilet room's windows. Then you jump up the window frame, turn 90° (left or right) and then you do a side barrel roll. You will end up inside men's/women's toilets. 3:30 If you interact with these people, they'll say something like "Good day Mr. Angelo" 6:45 Visiting rich people - there is switch box for all outside lights just where first guard comes from. You can switch off exterior lights and guy guardning pool will run to the box. You can wait for him near the box and kill him.
11:03 Fun Fact - if you leave your companions earlier, Morello's bodyguards can, for example, be smashed with a car. Then, when he runs out of ammunition, he will give you a FIST FIGHT. Now you can really check (earlier cutscene with a damaged car) what a gifted boxer he (not) is. And if you position yourself proper during a fistfight - your blow may cause him to fly off the edge. This is the epic end for him.
These are very interesting, and I only knew a couple of them. Some additions: >The Who**: The knife can actually be used to stealth kill almost all enemies in the building, not just the target, you can even get to the room where you have to plant the bomb without being sus to anybody. >Lucas 1: you can also get in the car. It will eventually teleport onto the streets in Hoboken and automatically steer to the location (though you still have to accelerate yourself). Also Tommy and a cop are both in the driver's seat. >Omerta: The woman that is not Frank's wife will actually attack Tommy back if he attacks her. Afaik this is the only woman to do so in the game.
Election campaign: you can also quickly drop all the weapons once you step outside. The cops will let you go, even though the floor will be bricked with guns 😂

15:10 I've heard "legends" about that! That for some reason the door guy won't allow you in in the final chapter! So you have to kill Pete in the previous chapter to trigger that! It's crazy that after all these years I still find out things about this legendary game! Nice Video!
During "The Priest", the guard in front of you when the shootout starts is Sergio Morello but only during the cutscene. After the cutscene, he's just a generic mobster.
This was a very interesting video, I grew up with a great PC for the early 2000's that quickly became outdated as technology evolved so I was pretty much forced to play older games like Mafia for most of my childhood, so having spent so much time playing this game I thought I'd know most of these details, yet here I stand corrected. (although, to cut myself some slack, I did know some of them). Either way, this was a really great video!
Thanks, I felt the same way but discovered so much in recent years while creating my Unique Details series and still finding more to this day. It's mind-blowing how much depth this game was given by such a small dev team
@@n0ughtyb0y I started watching that series of yours right after having finished this video :) I think it's pretty easy to understand why, Mafia 1 was as much of a "Labour of Love" Steam Award contender as possible. It's clear that the dev team put a lot of passion into the game, so they'd obviously add a lot of details like these. It's also that making games was cheaper and easier back then than it is today (kind of) as games were less complex on a technical level, so the devs could put in details like these much more easily to give it depth themselves.

Just a little correction - in the Moonlighting if you kill Pete and his friend you will get an empty gunshop next mission (even Steam and GOG version) and if you only start a fight, shooting, but Pete or his friend survive, you get the Pete at the door saying "Get outta here".

@@n0ughtyb0y Hi again, I went back and tested it and found something interesting - Pete and his friend seem to be bugged, so in order to have the "empty gunshop" outcome, you have to kill them both standing around the spot where you interact with Pete. Because when you get closer to the exit, Pete's friend start walking towards the door and if you shoot one of them, the other one doesn't react. So you pretty much have to kill them straight after buying the weapons. I'm not sure why, but it's got to do with the 1.3 Steam version, I remember it used to be easier to get the outcome. Edit: My version is the Steam version.
00:07 I had the original game on CD and at the beginning of the tutorial, when you had to interact with the microphone you had to be careful because if you interacted before the voice told you, did not go on with the things to tell you and you found yourself complaining that you were dirty, you interacted and then the voice told you "interact with the microphone" but there was no script that made you use the microphone several times but only once and you found yourself screwed but I do not remember if you could still get out, I think not

I am from Czech republic where the game was created and i just want to tell you there are much more facts and secrets you dont know. For example the scream of bartender in motel during mission ordinary routine is from original Czech version. And there is much more!
It always amazes me how buggy LS3D Engine is. I once tried to purposefully keep the black truck driver alive. I defended him from all the gangsters, got myself a checkpoint, then this trucker killed a wife\kid behind my back. I tried again and he fisted cuffed Frank instead. 6 years ago I killed a priest with a sawed-off, funny enough he was standing next to his dead body in the cutscene 2 minutes later. I once chased a Frank's Lassiter. It stuck on the bridge above the Hoboken gas station. I quit my vehicle, took a driver out of Lassiter when Lassiter suddenly managed to unstuck itself, driving without a driver with the left front door wide open. When I was a kid, I raped the 10th chapter with continuous Lucas kills, 20 kills later, the game denied a mission failed screen for me.
When I was a kid i could set that guy on fire in the "oridnary routine " mission but I thought I have to somehow get him to move under that torch then set him on fire. Didn't know about the wiskey bottle!! And also in the priest mission, you can shoot the bucket and it lands on the head of a worker on street and kills him :D
Did you know, each mission in the story mode, there’s each district of Lost Heaven are locked? Like the mission “An offer you can’t refuse” for example, Chinatown and Oakwood along side Oakhill are locked. Just like the GTA series (except GTA V) where each part of the city are locked until you unlock it when you keep playing, except in Mafia, one district is unlocked, then locked later, because for example Oakwood and Chinatown has nothing to do in “An offer you can’t refuse”.
I thought i'v seen everything, played that game so many times, that i have every scene burnt into my memory, and yet I still find something new. Although this game is 30 years old, it still amazes me, that there are other hidden things still undiscovered, let alone that someone still playes it.
In "Ordinary routine" when you find tommygun. you can go back to starting position (same way as you get in) and shoot off all 4 wheels of yellow car. In this case the sneaky guy with money will not drive anywhere.
Creme de la Creme has 3 options about the end or the mission - 1 on The Airport and fired airplane whit Morelo inside , 2 On the Bridge when Morelos car fall down , and 3- On the Bridge again , but Morelo came out from the Car and begin fire.
One more fact in the Priest-mission: After the cutscene, when Tommy uses the ladder, there is a bucket on the edge, Just push it and it will be fall down on a guy's head and he will die! :D
Wow been playing this game for too long and didn't know many of those (specially the knife one). Also in free ride if you get into a fight with a driver and you are being chased by the police/mobsters the driver will attack your enemies. This also happens in the omerta mission where the truck driver sometimes will attack the guys with the thompsons. Finally once found a funny bug. Dont know what i did but stole a car that was impossible to drive since it was damn fast. I've only seen that happen once. Btw dont forget the moanings in the hotel mission xD
The fact with the Yellow Pete I think that it doesn't even matter on the version of the game, but the fact if you kill only Pete, or his "bodyguard" too. If you kill only Pete there will be a bodyguard and he will tell you to get out of there, but if you kill both Tommy can crack in.
that's correct, I was mistaken to think it was a version difference. also you have to shoot them near the booth, if the guy walks to the stairs it doesn't count
In the ordinary routine mission when u arrive u can shoot one of the windows and kill the guy who escapes with the yellow car and that way you can complete the mission faster
At 15:26 you say one of many things 1.0 does better. Is there anywhere I can read about the differences? I had no idea that the difference between Steam and 1.0 was more than just bug fixes. I've been playing the Steam version entirely and have never tried 1.0
there's a thread about it on the mafiascene forum, I'd say the greatest difference is in 1.0 the characters have properly animated eyeballs whcih added a lot more life to the characters, all later versions swapped them out for fixed textures that can only blink. I'll probably do a video about it in the near future
Hm, 12:10 I remember that a bit differently...if you don't kill the worker near the manhole, he will be standing outside with the cops and point them towards you as the perpetrator, giving you the handcuffs/wanted status. If you kill him but don't hide the body, you'll get frisked for guns. If you kill him and hide the body, there won't be any cops outside.
I found out from another mafiatuber 'WRP Beater' as for Morello, I can think of a few more ways to end him. I guess you mean shooting him in his window? also he can be pulled out of his seat in certain conditions. also there's the cut ending where he drives to his house.
When chasing down Morello, if you get his car stuck (the easiest way is to knock it into the fence by the petrol station), you can shoot everyone and drive back to town in the car, with Morello's dead body hanging out the window. Sadly, he diseappears when you enter the city.

I once chased a Frank's Lassiter. It stuck on the bridge above the Hoboken gas station. I quit my vehicle, took a driver out of Lassiter when Lassiter suddenly managed to unstuck itself, driving without a driver with the left front door wide open.
When I was a kid, I raped the 10th chapter with continuous Lucas kills, 20 kills later, the game denied a mission failed screen for me.
I love these stories about breaking the game in interesting ways

When I was a kid i could set that guy on fire in the "oridnary routine " mission but I thought I have to somehow get him to move under that torch then set him on fire. Didn't know about the wiskey bottle!! And also in the priest mission, you can shoot the bucket and it lands on the head of a worker on street and kills him :D

Did you know, each mission in the story mode, there’s each district of Lost Heaven are locked? Like the mission “An offer you can’t refuse” for example, Chinatown and Oakwood along side Oakhill are locked. Just like the GTA series (except GTA V) where each part of the city are locked until you unlock it when you keep playing, except in Mafia, one district is unlocked, then locked later, because for example Oakwood and Chinatown has nothing to do in “An offer you can’t refuse”.
So many little secrets in a game of this age... honestly impressive!

I thought i'v seen everything, played that game so many times, that i have every scene burnt into my memory, and yet I still find something new. Although this game is 30 years old, it still amazes me, that there are other hidden things still undiscovered, let alone that someone still playes it.
a lot of guys still play it, but yes the amount of hidden secrets and details is amazing, nothing quite like it.

In "Ordinary routine" when you find tommygun. you can go back to starting position (same way as you get in) and shoot off all 4 wheels of yellow car. In this case the sneaky guy with money will not drive anywhere.

Creme de la Creme has 3 options about the end or the mission - 1 on The Airport and fired airplane whit Morelo inside , 2 On the Bridge when Morelos car fall down , and 3- On the Bridge again , but Morelo came out from the Car and begin fire.

One more fact in the Priest-mission: After the cutscene, when Tommy uses the ladder, there is a bucket on the edge, Just push it and it will be fall down on a guy's head and he will die! :D

Wow been playing this game for too long and didn't know many of those (specially the knife one). Also in free ride if you get into a fight with a driver and you are being chased by the police/mobsters the driver will attack your enemies. This also happens in the omerta mission where the truck driver sometimes will attack the guys with the thompsons. Finally once found a funny bug. Dont know what i did but stole a car that was impossible to drive since it was damn fast. I've only seen that happen once. Btw dont forget the moanings in the hotel mission xD

The fact with the Yellow Pete I think that it doesn't even matter on the version of the game, but the fact if you kill only Pete, or his "bodyguard" too. If you kill only Pete there will be a bodyguard and he will tell you to get out of there, but if you kill both Tommy can crack in.

also you have to shoot them near the booth, if the guy walks to the stairs it doesn't count
Another good one is that you can catch sam in the last gunfight by using a grenade. Unfortunately you can't kill him this way
In the ordinary routine mission when u arrive u can shoot one of the windows and kill the guy who escapes with the yellow car and that way you can complete the mission faster

The biggest game changer I learned is the police cars have higher speed limits.
15:39 - that car/driver ALWAYS glitches, blocks on some other vehicles. I have a video Mafia bugs and glitches about it.
11:53 I stole a car to drive back, and still got this dialogue. I thought its scripted and you get it regardless of whether you get a car or not.

At 15:26 you say one of many things 1.0 does better. Is there anywhere I can read about the differences? I had no idea that the difference between Steam and 1.0 was more than just bug fixes. I've been playing the Steam version entirely and have never tried 1.0
there's a thread about it on the mafiascene forum, I'd say the greatest difference is in 1.0 the characters have properly animated eyeballs whcih added a lot more life to the characters, all later versions swapped them out for fixed textures that can only blink. I'll probably do a video about it in the near future
it sucked that Hangar13 cut the tutorial mission in the remake
yeah, and honestly a lot of things suck in comparison. still good for some fun but everyone should try the original too.

Hm, 12:10 I remember that a bit differently...if you don't kill the worker near the manhole, he will be standing outside with the cops and point them towards you as the perpetrator, giving you the handcuffs/wanted status. If you kill him but don't hide the body, you'll get frisked for guns. If you kill him and hide the body, there won't be any cops outside.
as demonstrated, they always frisk in both situations. you would only be instantly wanted if you're already holding a gun.

as for Morello, I can think of a few more ways to end him. I guess you mean shooting him in his window? also he can be pulled out of his seat in certain conditions. also there's the cut ending where he drives to his house.

When chasing down Morello, if you get his car stuck (the easiest way is to knock it into the fence by the petrol station), you can shoot everyone and drive back to town in the car, with Morello's dead body hanging out the window. Sadly, he diseappears when you enter the city.
