I am a diehard Pethead, been in love with them from Petra on Fire till now, saw the twice in the mid 90's but unfortunately Bob had taken a couple of years off, to be with Family. Best concert ever
I saw Petra 3 times in the 80s and 90s. What a great group. It is hard to believe that Christian Rock is considered "from the devil" when you see the effect that the words have on people to come to the Lord.
Beautiful music, 1st time I ever heard your music was when I was 16 yes old and be came a believer in Christ Jesus at this age as well. Love your music.. You guys are the best!!❤
Oh the sound to this video is phenomenal! I got to see them in Oklahoma maybe a couple weeks after you recorded this. Been a fan of petrol since 1991, and I will always be a fan.
Very interesting. I’m surprised they are back. I thought I lost my chance when I was 12 when Petra went out to play at Kings Dominion in VA. I’m surprised John’s vocals haven’t gone anywhere as I assumed from an interview he sounded done. That was years ago. Must visit one of these shows. 👁️ 👁️

Oh goodness, this would have been the best birthday present if I were able to go, my birthday is on October 14th, and so was this, I suppose it's nice to know that Petra sang on my birthday even though it wasn't intentional on their behalf, but God's intentions on the other hand... eh, only He knows.
I know they coulda been MORE excited!! I would be! They're standing around like a pub band. SERIOUSLY WAS LOOKING forward to seeing a PARTY for Jesus!!
Greg has deeper voice and can get surprisingly high octave while John Schlitt's voice tend to sound higher than it really is in a lot of songs. It looks as though he'd easily slay Greg's songs but it isn't as simple as that. However, peak John Schlitt's voice is way more distinct and peculiar to Greg's voice who seems like he's one of any 70's 80's good rock band. John Schlitt's different. You can distinctly remember him like one would recognize Freddy Mercury, Axl Rose etc. I think if John re recorded Greg's songs in his prime ,most of them would be an upgrade with the right accompanying music. But songs like More power to ya, Rose coloured stain glass,The road to Zion would be still better with Greg because the deeper voice shines with lower octave songs .... Prime Axl Rose would sound shit compared to Don Williams if he sang Don Williams' song. As good as prime John Schlitt was, he's shown his age for quite a long time with these live shows and I think Greg's probably better since the late 2000s. But , late 80s to 90s John Schlitt was as good as almost anybody ...I'm talking about the whole music scene ,not just Christian music. If you put singers like Freddie Mercury, Dio and a few others at tier one, peak John Schlitt definitely belongs to a tier just below them...I'd put Greg at a lower tier ..
Whoever thinks John Schlitt sounds higher than he really is has not tried figuring out the notes he hits with aplomb. Just try All the Kings Horses... That song is relentless ... I doubt anyone can do that live with the same intensity as the recorded version.
@@s.m.syiemlieh9447 no denying that John's voice is higher. But, Greg's voice is surprisingly high even though it seems to sound way lower than it actually is. This is one reason why there are a lot of people who put Greg above...He belted the highs easily and earlier John Schlitt sounded very thin in comparision when singing Greg's song. I like John way more... Steve Perry comparision comes too often..To my ears, peak John Schlitt> Steve Perry and a lot of other well known singers...
@@rambokunga5905 i do a fair bit of singing myself and it's way easier to sing the Greg x. Volz songs (except those ultra high Adonai, Blinded eyes, Voice in the Wind etc endings) but a majority of John Schlitt Petra songs are relentlessly in the higher registers(Fired up, Mine field, Creed, Armed and Dangerous, You are my Rock, Kenaniah, All the Kings Horses etc. ) and require a lot more stamina to sustain the energy. Greg X. Volz had a much silkier technique of vocalization whereas John Schlitt was raw power. That's why Greg X. Volz sounds as fresh as ever except for the high notes which age has determined to snatch away from him, whereas John Schlitt has got his voice even more raw and struggles with basic vocalizations even in the lower ranges with age. Both were at the top of their game in their prime.
I love both early and later Petra, to be honest I don’t think their focus has ever been on selling records but rather on bringing Glory to God, reaching ppl with the gospel and enjoying the Lord.

The biggest problem is most preachers don't know how to 'correctly handle' God's word. Yes, we are called to be 'different/separate' from the world. Which means to not be sinful any more. Repent from our sins. Do righteous acts -- which means be obedient to biblical teachings. The unrepentant are those that are still being disobedient to God. We are still in the world, but called to not be of the world. I am not against using music to share God's edicts and recognizing His sovereignty over all.
