Beautiful work for a “beginner”. And who among us would “laugh” at you, Marion. You’re such an inspiration. Thank you.
🪡🧵☺️💐
I thrifted a jacket very much like yours but haven't worn it because, yes, it is boring. The sky is the limit now! You always give me the courage to try new things. I absolutely love your attitude and the grace you give yourself. You already look like an expert to me. Thank you.
I'm far from it but thank you. I hesitated before doing the video because there are so many amazing sashiko stitchers out there already.
Then I thought it would be nice to see that everyone can learn new things... Learning and practicing shouldn't stop as we get older 👍
Such a joy spending time with you. Thank you for sharing your talents. ❤❤
You’ve taken a beautiful tradition and made it your own. This is a beautiful video Marion. ❤
Thanks Jillian 💐
I’ve really enjoyed watching you sewing And listening to you Marion. I love how you are kind yourself and at the same time giving inspiration and confidence to other beginners. Your Shiisiko is beautiful so I hope you’re very proud of yourself. As always, thank you for sharing ❤
Thanks so much Susan. I really appreciate it.. The sashiko really got me hooked on it 😊🪡🧵
Absolutely amazing, thank you.
I’d be proud to have a sampler as accomplished as that. And that is my goal. I’m just in the early stages of “getting my eye in”. But I’ve already fallen in love with both the needles and the thread. Glorious to work with. Thank you for the time you’ve taken to create this video.
You're welcome Shelley. I'm just wondering what's taken me so long to begin with it!
Marion, you absolutely amaze me every week but this is the piece de resistance! This jacket was the perfect ground for sashiko embroidery and I so appreciate your incredible instructions on executing hitomezashi patterns. It takes incredible patience to execute such a project but well worth it. I am blown away by the beauty and brain-teasing complexity of these designs. Japanese culture is so rich and it would take a lifetime to scratch the surface. Thank you for this piece of beauty.
I appreciate your message Ann. I don't know why I've waited so long before doing a decent project with sashiko. I've dabbled with small stuff...but like with the kawandi, the bigger you can go, the more beautiful it can be, especially at first. It's given me the joy to say I like it enough to practice more.. and the long rows help too I think.
Loved seeing the patterns emerge as you stitched, fascinating and your cuffs are so pretty. Marion, your enthusiasm makes me smile, the joy of learning something new ♥
Absolutely!👍🪡🧵
You've done a wonderful job! It's beautiful! Thank you for sharing.
Your jacket looks absolutely gorgeous, Marion. Sashiko is like magic. Out of the grid appears a beautiful pattern. I am definitely going to give it a try!!
See you next Wednesday!
Best wishes, Karin ❤️
Thanks Karin
Lovely work!! Thank you.
Marion, as always, you are just amazing! How beautiful is this? Wow!!!🥰
💐
I like the sound of the thread passing through the fabric.
Me too 🪡🧵
Stunning! Just stunning! I see denim jackets thrift stores. Now I know what to do with them to take them from plain to beautiful.
I've worn this outside already... even though I've not finished it yet 😂
Your ability to transform a garment with a new to you technique is really quite remarkable. You and your talent are a treasure 🥰
👍💐
You have so many beautiful ideas, Marion. I really love the result of this. Beautiful 🌷
🪡🧵
Thank you Marion for your video and all I can say is wow. This is a one off and stunning. You can say when you wear it that it is a designer piece. Subtle and yet makes a statement. You say you are a beginner but it does not look that way. The compliments and questions about this stitching that you will get will amaze you. You are wearing a work of art.
I'm eager to carry on and finish it.. There's always something else to try out... The sashiko has been a revelation!
Brilliant idea about the sleeves beautiful work!!!!💫🧡💛
🧵🪡
Amazing stitching Marion. Your enthusiasm is inspiring, thank you x
💐
Interesting to watch and listen to your thoughts as you stitched on this jacket
I am obsessed also Marion...it's magical to see stitches become a beautiful pattern❤ The lavender 💜 showed up beautifully on the grid. YOUR JACKET IS STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL
I must confess to being very happy with how it's coming along.. I'm getting it all along a bit further before I post another video on it..👍🪡🧵
Well done, sashiko is very addicted. l get a rush of excitement watching the grid emerge, love it on the denim, hope to see more. It has rained so much here in Australia I'm growing duck feet, love watching
I'm happy to say I've had two days of sunshine ☺️🌞
Beautiful! I’ve had a little play before with old jeans, but you’ve given me a new incentive to have another go, but with proper Sashiko thread and a good drawn out grid. Thank you. Now to watch the follow on video ☺️
☺️ Excellent!
I have been procrastinating...watching video after video...I am in awe of the beauty and yet simplicity..❤
You'll just have to start somewhere Pam...🧵🪡
Hi Marion, Your Sashiko designs are amazing! Your jacket is beautiful! Such inspiration! I absolutely enjoy Sashiko and never thought to do this! Thank You for sharing. Looking forward to seeing your crochet too.
☺️👍🪡🧵
Wow, 21thousand subscribers !!! Congrats, you deserve it.
💐
Absolutely stunning Marion, amazing work for a beginner ❤
Thank you 💐
Your stitches are so beautiful, practice makes perfect. It’s so nice that you are willing to try different techniques. Lovely work.thanks for sharing. 🪡🧵♥️
👍🧵🪡
Just amazing, Marion. ❤️💕❤️
👍☺️🧵
Sashiko embroidery is so calming to watch. The jacket is looking absolutely beautiful xx
I also like seeing little mistakes in handmade things. I think its like a finger print ♡
That's a lovely way to think about it... Perfection can be overrated and actually stop people from trying to create anything. Embrace it all... that's my philosophy ☺️🪡🧵
for the first time it looks professional and just beautiful ! I guess it takes patience also. Great job for a first try!!
Thanks so much 💐🪡🧵
I so enjoyed your video love what you have done to your thrifted jacket I especially like the fabric pieces you have added in along with the sashiko stitching, you are turning a dull item into something beautiful to wear. It is so rewarding making something you are happy to alter and wear that you have bought from a thrift shop. Thank you for sharing.
👍💐
Wow Marion your thrift jacket looks great 👍
Another technique on my list of things to learn. Thank you 🙏
There's so much...😅
Wow this is amazing! First time I heard about Sashiko. The jacket looks absolutely lovely Marion. I particularly love your idea of doing the “sampling” in angles and the patch of fabric. Genius!
☺️
Magical Marion
💐
It came out so cool! Isn't it astounding what a bit of string can do? 😍
Certainly is ☺️🪡🧵
Thank you, Marion, for this very easy to follow tutorial. I've been interested in trying sashiko, but haven't found the needles in store, yet. Thank you for making it look so easy ❤😂❤
I always look forward to your videos. You are so patient ❤
Central California USA is 89°F with 42% humidity and no breeze right now. Expecting 104 this afternoon. I've finished my chores. Will be staying inside and stitching with Marion's World for the rest of the day 😅❤
I had to change into winter clothes and put my heating on...13° and raining again 🌧️😥
Perfect just what I’m looking for😂
You are a beginner of Sashiko? It is clear that you are very accomplished and an expert already. Quite lovely, great design balance, wonderfully executed. Inspirational. 🦋💖
I hadn't even heard of the hitomezashi patterns till I was looking for my inspiration...
Love all the things you do and you are funny with your sound affects!! Lovely stitching. 😊
👍😂
Wow! So pretty! TFS!
I think this looks lovely. And learning something new is always admirable. I think that each project we stitch, we learn something from. It is so much fun. ❤
👍💐🪡🧵😊
love it Marion very inspirational, Huge hugs x
On the look out for charity shop jacket now! Thank you , loved seeing you do this and transform the garment.
There'll be another video to show how I finish it... The extra thread just arrived today!
Wow! What great results! Before this I hadn’t understood the interest in Sashiko embroidery, but now i see how lovely and attainable it is. Your jacket looks really nice.
Thanks Kathy
Your jacket is beautiful and I agree with Nancy, "who among us would laugh at you!!"
You inspire in so many ways. Thank you for sharing your amazing talents with us. I look forward to your videos as I always feel like I have learned something new, even if it is something beyond what I know I could do. Your parrot is fantastic. I have done Sashiko embroidery in the past but you have sparked my interest again. I will be shopping for a jacket soon!!
Well I just imagined all the seasoned sashiko stitchers saying " What on earth is she doing... that's not how it's done!"😂
Love the purple thread in it.
I like it a lot... it's quite subtle though ..
You are an inspiration!!!!!!
Beautiful! Beautiful!
💐
Awesome I have recently started Sashiko Embroidery myself. I am still struggling to have even stitching but I am having fun doing it. I use cloths that would have been tossed in the past to practice on. with how the economy is going I want to upcycle everything I can. trying not to waste something that could be repurposed. I have also started darning socks to make them last longer. recycled an old sweater no one wanted into sock mending yarn. works great.
I think reusing and repurposing gets a bit forgotten about sometimes. But there's all sorts that can be done especially with old fabric and woollens 👍
Wow ! Your jacket looks great 👍. You made it look so easy that I'm going to give it a try. Thanks Marion x
Excellent!🧵🪡
Doesn't look like beginners to me! Another wonderful idea x
That's kind of you to say..thank you 💐
Hi Marion, the Sashiko has come out so well! It’s quite magical the way the pattern appeared. I’m pretty certain that I went to the same fabric shop in Japan. I’m in Scotland now so can’t check, but I bought 2 pieces of fabric with a similar brown label. Yours are beautiful! I wish now that I’d bought more, but my husband and son were waiting outside, getting bored, so I made my choice quickly. Thank you for your abundance of ideas!❤
Naomi said she could have spent ages in there because it was all so lovely. ☺️
Such a difference a few stitches can make, it’s wonderful Marion.
💐
Fantastic, Marion! Always wanted to give this a go. Must go looking for a denim jacket!
👍 any plain dark jacket or dress will work...
Fantastic job! Looks really lovely on you as well ❤ great inspiration for us!
This style of stitching is so beautiful. Thank you for such an inspiring project!
Wow! Marian. This is wonderful. I was looking for ideas for a denim jacket. You’re brilliant.
☺️💐
Your sashiko is lovely! I've wanted to get started on a few pieces I have. I'm sure mine won't be as pretty as yours. Just beautiful!!
You won't know until you try... I'm sure it will look wonderful 👍
Wow, this now looks so beautiful. I loved all the stitches you demonstrated. I think I will have to take the plunge and try this in the near future. Beautiful work, Marion.❤
I'd recommend it ...👍🪡🧵
Well done! I have watch the Green Wrapper too. Thank you!
It's a very inspiring channel ☺️
Wow just wow. Beautiful Marion.😊
Thanks Bethan 👍
Marion your jacket is wonderful❣️ I love it😊. Sashiko has seemed unfathomable to me but now I think I have a chance of achieving🤔😁 I especially like the first pattern you stitched and you are right it is amazing that those three patterns came from the one grid layout. Very well done, thankyou so much. 🦋🌻
The first pattern seemed to me to be the easiest to start with. Because on each line of stitching it was just over 1, under 1. No counting...
Beautiful work and love the stitching!💕
👍
You do some very amazing work❤😊
It's such a beautiful jacket ❤❤❤ and I know just what you mean I have embroidered my own denim jacket 🥰 and just love it❤❤❤
Hurrah.. that's brilliant 👍🧵🪡
Wow...your piece sensational 👏 ❤ Your piece looks like a professional did it. The Japanese fabrics are gorgeous and different than we have. ❤
They are.... different and beautiful.👍
How very beautiful! I bought a jacket exactly like this one in Taos, New Mexico in 1995. I’ve hardly ever worn it because it really is boring. Your idea of sashiko is brilliant! Now your jacket shines! Thank you for the great tutorial. You’ve given me the confidence that I can do this. ❤️❤️❤️
Hurrah for another jacket transformation ☺️
That must have taken quite a while to do…, Such a different look to your denim jacket now!! Thank You for the way you patiently explain every tutorial. I always learn so much!
☺️👍💐
Just watched this...I'm in love! I've never done any sashiko but you've made me want to try! Thank you ❤
It's addictive!
When we keep the technique exactly the same it creates a uniform look, even if some stitches are shorter or slightly misplaced. I learnt this in wire work jewellery making. The pieces looked as though they belonged together because each was made with the same technique - just as you did here. The fact that your grid was out a little here and there did not spoil the look. It is cohesive and looks FANTASTIC - yes, I am shouting there as it is so good to look at.
Wonderful to have the opportunity to watch and see it build up - each new step adding more beauty. Well Done.
Thank you so much Eileen... I had originally planned a flower motif for the back. But all changed when I discovered those grid patterns... I was instantly hooked by them 🪡🧵😊
That is so beautiful! I recently started to try that out as well. Ways to go, of course but it is so satisfying.
Your jacket turned out so beautiful! 🌺
What fascinates me so much is, that each and every step "in-between" is already looking like a beautiful pattern. All together ist simply amazing?
It is definitely... That weaving one was lovely at every stage. There's another similar one that once woven...makes circles!
Love it. 🥰 making something quite simple unique to you. ❤️
Thanks. I don't think I'll ever turn up in the same outfit as someone else...😂
Beautiful work Marion :) I would love to have a go at this to.
Hi Marion! You are so inspiring. I am making a blue jean crossbody, sashiko bag. The jean fabric is beautiful with sashiko.💜⛟💜⛟💜
It's like they were meant for each other ☺️
❤❤❤ absolutely beautiful! I also found a nice denim jacket that has been waiting for me and now I think I have a plan for it! Thank you for sharing your learning process!
👍
What a beautiful techniek
Must give it a try ones.
Your jacket jas turned out lovely. You are a master in a lot of things 🤩
Just like learning and giving things a try...☺️
Oh my goodness! I have only just found your channel and I’m off down several new directions! But this jacket…. Show stopper! Off to thrift a dark denim jacket, fabric and threads. Beautiful
😅👍
Just found your channel. I love the Sashiko embroidery. You are great for a 'beginner' and you have inspired me to have a go,
Definitely have a go.. you'll amaze yourself just like I did...🪡🧵
I am visiting family in Maine, USA, and it is 87 degrees F and sunny. A bit warm for this far north. Most evenings it does rain and even though the sun is shining it is humid. But there's something cozy about a rainy day that I like. I can remember as a child I liked it when it rained when I was in school. Somehow the class room seemed brighter with the over head lights. Your stitching, as usual is very pretty and well done. It's one thing I have not tried.😊
I know the sort of rain you mean... Lovely being inside and watching it...
However we've had endless cold and rainy weather these last few weeks...and it's supposed to be summer 🌞
You turned a boring jacket into a work of art Marion. Beautiful!
💐
You always bring beauty to the ordinary, Marion. I love the fabrics you added and those little frills are the bomb! I absolutely love Sashiko because I am very attracted to geometric patterns. I find it easier to stitch something that is marked, so I don't have to think about the stitch placement while I'm embroidering. Good on you for practicing the proper technique. I can imagine how awkward it must feel when you are used to the normal running stitch method used in quilting and embroidery. We just got over a heat wave in central Canada with a couple of rainy days and now it has cooled down and gotten more sunny. It's only 16 C this morning with a forecasted high of around 23 C this afternoon. It looks like we are heading into the high 20's with a mix of sun, clouds and rain for the rest of the week. I hope the weather improves and you are able to get back into your garden soon.
I managed to get to prune roses this afternoon. It's been sunny all day...Hurrah! a lovely 21 deg
Wow that is beautiful stitching I’ve always wanted to try that , your giving me hope 😊❤❤❤
I'm really enjoying stitching this. I think I'm obsessed at the moment!
Thank you Marion. Bought a sushiko kit a few months ago so this came just at the right time for me . I’m not so scared of it now. So thank you
I hope you enjoy stitching it...
That’s something I always wanted to try but have to many things to finish before getting into a new project looking beautiful 🇨🇦
👍
oooo tis beautiful. I have a jean jacket now that needs to be beautified
Excellent!😅
Gorgeous!
I’m so excited to see you do this! I’ve had a denim jacket hanging in my sewing room for months waiting for just this. I have the needles and threads and a book but just needed the proper inspiration! Thank you for that inspiration!
Your jacket is looking wonderful! I love the sleeve idea so much.
So many exclamation marks - can you tell I love it?
I’m so happy that I found your world! I’ve been watching for a while now and just love it all.
I also crochet, quilt, watercolor, and dabble in mixed media and journal making.
Your garden is a dream I have. I do better with houseplants where I can better control the environment. It’s very hot here.
Thank you!
Lovely message to read. Thank you Theresa 💐🪡🧵
That was an absolute joy to watch! 👏🏻😍👏🏻x
Thank you 💐
Your jacket will look fantastic. I love doing Sashiko stitching, you have given me a wonderful idea to find a jacket and do the same. Thank you for inspiring me to do more with Sashiko. You inspire me with every video you make thank you thank you. Keep well
Thanks Sandra 🧵🪡👍
Thank you for the links
Your jacket is just beautiful! It's amazing what you did with just learning to do the stitches. I love the way you made the cuffs. They really add a lot to it. The fabric you bought from Japan is so pretty.
Thank you... My daughter Naomi sent me the fabric after she went to Japan last month ☺️
One word … WOW …
💐🪡🧵
Really like how that turned out Marion . I like the little crosses the best ,l have already been through my wardrobe and found a potential item to try some stitches on . Once again a very informative video very well presented. Thankyou for the inspiration ❤️🤗👏
I've now got crosses on both sleeves 👍☺️
That's so great and a beautiful coincidence for me! I thought a couple of weeks ago that I would like to make a hanten jacket with sashiko. So I've been practising. I look forward to the next stage of yours. Thank you for your wonderful videos.
👍 I'm looking forward to when I get to start my own hanten. I have some beautiful thrifted fabric waiting... Check out a video by Zoe Hong on how she made hers. It's what inspired me in the first place...
Its so lovely! Never done this before but I might give it a try. Love Tineke
👍
Well you did it again..beautiful!
👍🪡🧵 thanks Barbara ☺️
Beautiful!
Beautiful project Marion !!!! So intricate!!! Sorry about your rain ! In Knoxville TN, in the US, it’s 95 degrees (36 Celsius !!) thanks for sharing !!!
It's been 13° here and non stop rain all day 🥺
