Hello Marion. I am absolutely convinced there is NOTHING you can’t turn your hand to and create something absolutely beautiful, as well as useful. I know you said this was all a “learning experience” for you, but really is a very informative tutorial for those of us watching. I am sure you are going to do a lot more wonderful sashiko in the future, as a result . Have a wonderful week, creating gorgeous things.
Dear Marion, I do so love how you made your "Mistakes" into "Happy Accidents." What a delight this was. To watch you take a plain old serviceable denim jacket and turn it into a bespoke work of art, was truly lovely. Too see your garden and you in it enjoying the sun, just brings us all such joy. I wish you a beautiful God blessed day! ❤😊
Marion, your sashiko is so inspiring to me! I have so many hobbies, but I find hand stitching to be restful. Just the repetition is rather calming. I also think finished doesn't have to mean perfect.
Marion, hello I just love watching your acceptance of mistakes do happen. A little bit of knowledge..Sashiko history says that it has always been a utility stitching of Japan, to preserve clothing. But you have taken it to beauty. You should be very proud. I look at mistakes as being the artist license!! Absolutely amazing!!
Well I was just trying to show how it's not a problem... I'm happy with the wavy pattern anyway. I'll just have to do another project because I still didn't manage to stitch the double persimmon pattern!
It is a lovely "new"patron and many people will be in panic: Oh I make a mistake. But you show that it is not a problem. And you encourage them always to make something else. But I do understand that you want to make the double persimmon pattern. 😄
Greeting's from a British lady living over here in Canada 🇨🇦. I'm admiring your garden in the background. I would like that book, I tried making a dishcloth with cut up cloth and sashiko. I didn't know I should trace a pattern. Its ugly but dries fast after use. I understand how relaxing and portable this hobby is. Knitting used to be my thing. Your jacket is beautiful! Thank you for sharing and inspiring others all across the world!. God bless you!🙏❤️🇨🇦
Your jacket looks so lovely Marion and such a showpiece. You have such a talent for turning such ordinary items into works of art. Your garden is looking so very pretty too. xx
Watching you doing this is so calming. Exactly what I needed this morning. I love your comments about perfection and enjoying the process. Much needed to be said...This is why Marions World is the place we choose to be ..... with you. Thank you!
I think being a beginner (like I am with embroidery) is also a wonderful and playful place to be, if we can let go of our perfectionism and fear of "failing" I think it's a very creative and healthy place to be. I love learning new things, being terrible, getting better, thinking in new ways and developing skills. Thank you for being my teacher with embroidery! 💚
Your jacket turned out beautiful. You make me want to give it a try. As always I so enjoy seeing your garden. I can almost feel myself sitting among the flowers stitching with you.
I have just started watching your video Marion, but had to immediately comment (whilst I could remember the quote)...You were talking about your stitching not being perfect and said, "It's a record of my learning journey" - what a great way to look at each step in the process of each new skill. Thank you so much for these words of wisdom. I will carry them with me. Best wishes from Lottie x
Thanks so much Lottie.. I appreciate your letting me know that it meant something.. I forgot to say at the end of the video how rubbish my camera work was at the beginning... whilst I was rabbiting on about learning... But that too is a learning journey for me.. I've had to learn about videos, editing, filming...it was all out of my comfort zone.. I'll get there though ☺️🧵🪡
Marion I just enjoy your videos so much. I like to learn new techniques. To me the finished product is the bonus. But the challenge is learning because I like creating. But to be honest I think I like your videos so much because of you. It’s been my experience that needleworkers are nice people. And you’re one of the best. Life isn’t always easy. Like you I’ve had to live through some difficult times. My daughter left this earth when she was nineteen. It was unexpected and an act of someone else’s jealousy. And although it hurt terribly I chose to choose better and not bitter. I’ve meant bitter people and they never get better. It was many years ago now and it does become easier. Just keep being the lovely giving person you are. I live in the USA. I’ll most likely will never meet you, but I think of you as a friend. God is good. I feel blessed to have found your videos. Your a natural teacher encouraging people as you go. You also share your life. The beauty in your garden and children as well as the difficulty of losing someone you loved. I hope you know you’re a treasure to many people.
It’s gorgeous! I have numerous denim jackets that I’ve picked up at thrift shops and have been thinking about how to dress them up. Now I know! Thank you so much.
Thank you Marion. That was so fun to watch and the end results are very nice. That jacket choice was perfect for your first project and I do not think that it looks like a practice piece at all. Also, I see you are wearing the blouse that you did the smocking on - it too looks so pretty.
Hi Marion, your jacket looks beautiful, you must have lots of patience. The Sashiko patterns are lovely and it is unique to you. Your garden is lovely too. 😊❤
It's amazing that you can teach us something that you are just learning. I think perfection is over rated, you might as well buy machine made goods if that is your goal. Handmade is perfectly imperfect.
Good morning Marion from NZ. You are so right, you do not take any notice what other people say about your Sashiko stitching whether they are 💯% perfect or not. It is your your stitching signature, your own style. Your jacket is beautiful and I suggest to continue doing what you enjoy and give you peace and pleasure, that is the main thing. I have always loved doing Sashiko stitching myself, it is a unique of stitching, practice makes perfect. Thank you as always for sharing your talents and enjoy what you are doing with your arts and crafts. Look forward to watch your next video. Blessings to Marion and love your cottage garden. Thelma 💐
Would that everyone could have a tutor like you, Marion. I feel as though I've been infused with artistic wisdom which has been all around, but couldn't receive it until I found my special messenger. Thank you for your lovely "visits" and I am on the hunt for the right garment to make special. Wearable art indeed!
Such lovely art, Marion, what a pleasure to see! I love the idea of leaving the sides and collar empty as it creates rest for the eyes and showcases the handywork. It is slimming as the diagonal lines on the back sculptures a visual sillhouette.
I've been gazing longingly at sashiko patterns for far too long. You've inspired me to give it a go and just be fine with imperfections. Gorgeous jacket!!
Your jacket looks great and no wonder you are pleased with it. You have mastered sashiko and your embellishments have totally transformed your jacket. You also have a lovely selection of cottage plants. Have a lovely holiday with your sister. You work hard and really deserve it.
You have transformed your jacket into a real Bohemian Beauty. I love your videos and binge watch while I do my needlework. P.S. I think you film really well. I never struggle to see what you're working on. Thank you my dear. Love hugs a giggles from Kelli in Gold Beach Oregon USA ^•,•^
Oh I forget to check I haven't wandered off camera all the time.. This time I didn't want to edit out that bit because of what I was saying...but quite often I cut out whole chunks of stitching I'm afraid 😏
You’re so right a wearable piece of art. This is sewing with philosophy! The practice pieces in the past record apprentice pieces and are often valued now as interesting historical objects. It’s lovely to see the progression as well and I’m so with you on the what is the point of practising on a small piece of fabric. I like things to be useful or wearable
I am very new to your channel and I am already addicted. I've had a kit to do sashiko for about 2 years. Like yarn it doesn't go out of date lol. Watching you has really got me thinking about my current journey. As an older woman with late diagnosed ADHD, I tend to want to stick to one hobby, I then get bored and need to find another hobby to get me excited. You make sashiko look so simple. I have some very plain dungarees and I know what I am going to do with them now. I saw you doing crewel work and it was like a blast from my childhood. My nannan had a piece of crewel work on her wall in the hall as you walked into her house. My nannan had lots of hobbies, and my grandmother was a tayoress. I'm the only one out of 4 girls and an adopted boy who is creative. I made my own wedding dress in 2016. All I have ever wanted to do is (what I call) proper embroidery. Please don't stop what you do, you have inspired this 57 yr old woman to stop being afraid to try something different. One last thing, where is your black teapot from, I love it. Thank you for being you Claire from Yorkshire
Hello Claire and welcome to my channel 💐 I like doing everything and I just hop around like a butterfly from thing to thing as it suits me... I don't see anything wrong with that.. It's no good being bored when you can do something else till the fancy takes you back to the first thing again 😅 I got the hobnail teapot for my husband who drank a lot of Chinese tea. It's actually dark green but looks darker as it's so used.. It's made by Bredemeijer and I use it now for my loose leaf black tea.. people are always surprised at how much it holds... ☕
I'd like to thank you for your encouragement in trying and practise! practise! practise! I've started doing some handstitching on my quilts. Is it perfect no. Do I love it? Yes! I find it relaxing with a cup of tea and music!!❤
Just because you know where the mistakes are doesn't mean anyone else would notice. I've found if it takes patience people think you are amazing even if it doesn't take much talent or skill. But luckily you have all three. Love your work.
Totally agree with the mistakes thing. When you compliment someone on something they've made they usually point out perceived mistakes straight away... I say accept the compliment for your achievement with grace. People look at the whole thing usually and just see something lovely that you've made 👍☺️
I love all of the patterns on your jacket. They work with the fabrics so well. How enjoyable it is to watch all of the work you are doing on this lovely jacket.
Dear Marion Love your jacket You've done an amazing job You have done some very interesting patterns I really like your focus on the joy of learning and making our projects Not any garment or quilt, even if it's store bought expensive or not, is not perfect. Most people don't notice the flaws Thank you for sharing your sewing journey and learning a new technique Happy sewing 🧵🪡✂️
The jacket came out incredible! It's so nice to hear you be truthful that things aren't going to be perfect and that you have to practice. When I make a mistake in knitting or sewing (unless it's something that really has to be fixed) I'll look at it and say "wabi sabi" and proceed with the project. Love you garden too!
I’m going to make one of those creamer covers to keep my beloved kitty from sneaking some drinks out of my glass at night! Your jacket has come out so beautifully, Ms. Marion! Thank you for giving us permission to be imperfect!
When you turned around and showed the back I gasped. It is just beautiful. I loved what you said about immediate perfection. So very true. I love the whole thing.
Marion, your jacket truly is wearable art! What a joy it was to stitch along with you in your garden, with the red teapot, and the charming lace "thingy" coveting your milk pitcher. :)
I think I usually just call it a beaded jug cover ... My brain wasn't working on that day though..😅 They're really pretty and I love using the old fashioned things... Plus...it works 👍
You mesmerize me watching your stitching! I agree with everything you’re saying about being a beginner and to continue knowing nothing is perfect! Thanks
Hello Marion. I am absolutely convinced there is NOTHING you can’t turn your hand to and create something absolutely beautiful, as well as useful. Totally agree with you Wendy!
What a beautiful jacket Marion. You have transformed a thrifted item into a treasured piece. TFS and you are such an inspiration.
☺️💐
I love your striking a blow for transparency! Not editing away all the rough edges of life and projects. Go you!
Or the wandering out of camera frame either!😅 I couldn't get that bit out as I was saying important stuff....😅🪡🧵
I love your jacket. The Sashiko patterns are wonderful. Thank you for sharing the garden.

That jacket a truly gorgeous!!! I think a lining would be beautiful too. Wow, your garden is wonderful!!! Thanks Marion!!!
I'll have to wait until I find something lovely.. I've not got anything suitable at the moment 🤔
When you don't tell something was wrong with the way you made the patron, nobody knows it. It looks great.
Well I was just trying to show how it's not a problem... I'm happy with the wavy pattern anyway. I'll just have to do another project because I still didn't manage to stitch the double persimmon pattern!

I totally agree. Thank you ☺️💐
It’s beautiful Marion! I hope when you get it finished just exactly as you want it, we’ll get to see it again! ♥️

I like the way you kept some areas of the jacket plain. The eyes have a place to rest, making the patterned sections more enjoyable and interesting.

I think I usually just call it a beaded jug cover ... My brain wasn't working on that day though..😅
They're really pretty and I love using the old fashioned things... Plus...it works 👍
It’s fun to see you wearing projects we’ve watched you make before ❤️🇨🇦
☺️
Absolutely fabulous Marion! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤗
What a joyful video, a beautiful jacket and garden
You mesmerize me watching your stitching! I agree with everything you’re saying about being a beginner and to continue knowing nothing is perfect! Thanks
You're welcome Gina ☺️
