I just love Francesca, her game is so unorthodox and crafty, her grunt amuses me because it's a testament to her passion and effort and she makes such a battle of it. Certainly a unique player.

it's everyone else's game that's unorthodox, Francesca actually played very good tennis, like Amelie, Henin, Silvia Farina-Elia, Vinci more recently and many players of that generation who were not raised in imitation of Monica or Capriati. I wish there were more players nowadays who play this kind of tennis, Schiavone still today remains the last woman to win a Grand Slam title with a one handed backhand.

You don't see this kind of all-court game in womens tour anymore. Two skillful one-handed backhand ladies using every inch of the court is really fun to watch.

I partially blame the coaching. It's all about hitting the ball as hard as possible and slugging from the baseline. Coaches don't teach the players how to properly defend or how to change the pace of rallies by using the slice, using the drop shot or coming to net.

I smiled the whole time watching this. I am not a fan of Henin but Schiavone, oh so much fun watching her brilliance taking on such a class. Ball striking by both was fantastic

A lot of people look at Schiavone as a one slam wonder but she showed signs of her 2010 French open rise early. Starting here.

      Francesca Schiavone
also used a lot of spin, which could trouble Justine.
if you look at Henin's match record against flat hitters it is incredibly one-sided -- but
players that hit with heavier spin (Schiavone, Kuznetsova etc.) could really pull Henin
into grueling, exhausting matches, even if she ultimately won most of them.

She reached the Roland Garros quarterfinals at her first appearence in 2001, when she was 20. I don't know who looks at Schiavone as a one slam wonder.

Two of my favorite players to watch, we don't see this kind of skillful, creative all-court game that much anymore, thanks for that one! I remember the match, Francesca finally beat Henin.

Wow I remember Shiavone with her one handed backhand! Nice to see the one handed back hand on the woman's side...here we are lucky to see TWO!! The great Justine (my fave) and Schiavone!!

I was watching this match like, this was the world number one? World number one that hits half of the ball near the service line? Maybe women's tennis doesn't look as good nowadays, but I certainly don't remember any top players nowadays hit so many short balls. Depth is the mundane looking killer in tennis.

I don't know if you're blind or just ignorant. This is the player who beat Serena at three consecutive Grand Slams. Current top players cannot produce this level of tennis.

@@milvao3400 This is a player that got 6-2 6-0 by Serena in a few weeks. I like Henin's style, but her lack of depth was crazy when she's not at her best.

@@keithwatson7434 We are talking about the second last tournament before her first retirement... this match in particular was a very high level match. I wish there were matches like this one nowadays, in fact we are all here watching these matches and we don't even remember who was the Us Open finalist in 2022 or who won Roland Garros 2021. This generation was extremely competitive, the current generation is not also because lots of the best players have retired too early (naomi, barty)... Wozniacki came back at 33 after having two kids with a chronic disease and she almost beat the future US Open winner. It's the exact opposite than before, when young players, let's say a Ben Shelton, almost beat or beat the top players... now it's the former top players who com back and teach the younger top players a lesson. See what Svitolina has done to Swiatek at wimbledon. Henin is one of the best players ever, probably the only one who was real competition to Serena, in the sense she beat her consistently over time, in fact Serena hated her.
