- Walking down Haddon Avenue singing God Bless America. Third video of Quaker City String Band in Haddon Avenue spring parade. Parades playlist has the others, and more. I adore all marching bands.
The name of the band comes from it being based in Philadelphia, which is known as the city first colonized by Quakers from Britain.
Haddon Avenue runs through Haddonfield and Haddon Township in Camden County, New Jersey, across the Delaware River from Philadelphia.
I am in Tears. Beautiful
Incredibly moving, thank everyone who participated and showed up for this! This country needs so much more of this.
This brought a tear to my eye! So lovely - from South Africa
Wonderful! I was in Johannesburg briefly in 2013 and 2016.
I never thought I would be following a string band down Haddon Avenue singing God Bless America. And there I was.....
So uplifting. Love watching them❤❤
I watch it repeatedly. I first came across them in a St Patrick's Day parade, and was so excited when I learned they were comíng to Haddon Avenue! I recorded the other bands too.
WOW! A marching string bass! Love the costumes and all!
❤❤❤ from Havana, Florida.
Outstanding.

Where is Quaker City? I can think of several towns that would have that as a nickname- Richmond, Ind., Plainfield, Ind., Philadelphia, etc.
Philadelphia. Quakers showed up with William Penn in about 1682. Haddonfield was named after a Quaker. I am a Quaker, descended from Quakers who showed up in Ireland in the 1690s. QCSB has no links to Quakers that I know of, but I love them to bits.
Could someone explain the costumes to me. Love from UK
They are Mummers. Philadelphia has a big Mummers Day Parade on January 1st, when groups are ranked. Groups take all year getting ready, and figuring out ways to fund the costumes. Terrific tradition.
This remu ds me of Mummering back home in Newfoundland.
Exactly Mummers. Their big day is New Years Day in Philadelphia when they are in the Mummers Parade.
