AND IT WAS COLD THAT DAY. I had my 5mo old Stephen in his snow suit and blankets to keep him warm. We were there from 8am until late afternoon. Thank God my Aunt had a house on Broad Street for eating and bathroom breaks.
I was 5 years old, and living in the Gray's Ferry section of Philadelphia, when this happened. In 1986, I ended up moving next door to the Shannon's in Darby. Their son Bob Jr. went on to be Quaker City's captain. I used to see him, when he came to visit his mom & dad. The whole family was really nice.
I agree completely. The bands have almost no banjo players anymore and all they obsess over is props and sets. What is shown in this video is 1000 times better.
Just out of curiosity who is the announcer seen on the early part of this video? I know the unseen lady was Connie Ruisin although I heard her call him Roy. What was his last name. I don't think I remember him at all.

They’re over-produced now. Loved the feathers. I think they had to eliminate the feathers because they became too expensive.
ahhh yes, i was 20 yrs old! Living at 22nd and Spruce, in my second year at the Hussian School of Art which was located at 13th and Arch!
This is what I remember . Just watched 2023 parade, nothing like this. All theatrics. But good.
Over fifty one years now, still going strong!
I GREW UP WATCH THIS BAND
Sweet!

Roy Nassau - He was a news anchor/reporter on Channel 6.
I was nine.
Sartorial overkill. One day I will research how all of this started and why this parade took this peculiar turn.
Do you happen to have Palmyra for this year?
1971 Great/ 2018 sucks
